We haven’t had a poll in a few weeks with the Yankees about to start an important road trip, now seems like a good time.
So, how do you think the team will finish the regular season? Vote over to the right.
93-65. They’ll go a very reasonable 23-15 down the stretch. Wild Card, 3 back of Boston.
93-69 I meant, of course.
i like the Ghostbusters touch
I will defer and wait till the end of the road trip.
They will win about 94 games, get the Wild Card and keep Seattle out of the playoffs.
Division won’t happen, Boston’s schedule is too easy and their Starting Pitching is good enough to prevent any long losing streaks.
I still think they have a strong shot at winning the division.
Ahead of Boston in the east.
Ticker tape in November.
Fugheddaboutit.
Man, I’m just going to wait until this time next week to make any predictions. I don’t want to jinx this great run. But if we can finish 4 out by next Sunday, I think we’re in nice shape.
The last series against Baltimore scares me a bit so we have to close it before then.
If they keep pace with Boston over the road trip and then sweep them…they have a good shot at the division. That’s rather unlikely, though. If Wang were on top of his game, I’d feel better about their chances, but he’s not. And Boston has always given him trouble anyhow, just poking that sinker into LF for hits. And Moose…well, if a team is patient and/or the ump doesn’t have a liberal strike zone, he’s usually screwed.
I still wonder about Wang’s finger. Pete said it doesn’t get chewed up as much anymore, but his sinker also isn’t biting down like it used to. Perhaps it’s not getting so torn up because he’s throwing the pitch differently…and less effectively.
Given the way things have been going, I have to say I think our chances at the division are looking pretty good right now. Pete, I think the “total collapse, panic in the streets” option applies only to polls about the BoSox.
Yankees will finish two games in front of Boston, capturing the east, and Boston will finish one game behind Seattle in the Wild Card race, thus, not making the playoffs. (Thanks in part to Gagne, the best trade the “Yankees” made!) Remember, you heard it here first!!
They’ll take the East and win in October.
It just has that feel.
Just wanted to say I liked the Ghostbuster’s reference in option 4.
It’ll come down to the division with Boston. They can absolutely bury them and do well with those 6 games and keep up a decent pace then they’re good to go. I actually think they may even have a good enough team to go the yard – we’ll have to see if the offense can keep up.
Yanks finish 2 games behind the Red $ox and curse their May swoon.
Yanks win Wild Card by a game.
Yankees earn wild card sport – per 1 playoff game against the Mariners
wild card 92-70
I am confident, but not overly. I hope they win the division, but realistically expact the WC. Regardless I am thinking playoffs.
I think we can win the division if Tampa, Toronto, and O’s cooperate. Our division record pales in comparison to the vaunted AL Central.
Question for you guys. For teams who are out of it in September is it customary for them to give callups some regular PT to see what they have to offer?
Yes. Almost always. That’s what the Rays did with Delmon Young last year, and the Red Sox with Pedroia as well.
How about the poll from a few months ago where more people thought they were dead?
Don’t assume anything in this game
panic in the streets, dog and cats living together.
( Ghostbusters ! )
Yankees will finish 101-61, win the division and trounce all the competetion on the way to another championship..
YES,,,they WILL finish 31-7 for the remainder of the season…you gotta believe !!!
Ah, Ghostbusters
How bad is it that I don’t remember Ghostbusters?
Regular season ends like it always does: us in first, Boston in second.
We pay back Detroit in Round 1, Boston in Round 2, and pummel the Metamucils in the Series.
Pavano makes a show of himself at the victory parade, ala Kenny Rogers in ’96.
“This report just in on a Boston area news network … dogs & cats have been spotted together with alarmingly high frequency, as the looming panic becomes further entrenched on Lansdowne Street. Are the two somehow related?” News at 11 right after the local sports report.
4 games out on Aug 20th….Aug 31st 2 games out…going into the series against Boston on Sept 14th down 1… taking the series… one game playoff october 3rd… take the Tigers in 4…. cleveland in 6…… Mets in 5… and take the title home to the Bronx
This team is too confident now to let the division slip away. Boston will remain stubborn and use Gagne in critical late inning situations, collapse, and may even miss the playoffs.
The Yankees have finally solved the bullpen and have once again reduced the game to 6 innings for the opponent. That is big.
The key for the Yanks is pitching down the stretch. Pettitte will spur the rest of the staff on. He is the best big game pitcher going, bar none.
And from here on out, they are all big games.
The Yanks will finish 97-65 and win the division. They will sweep boston at the end of the month and take 2 out of 3 in September. Not to mention they will also sweep the last series against the Mariners. And when they get to the playoffs, the rotation should be (although it won’t happen) Clemens, Pettite, Wang and Huges. Mussina is a pretty much a guaranteed loss against playoff caliber teams.
Although we still have a legitimate chance to win the division I think we will finish 2 or 3 games back and end up with the Wild Card. We make it to the postseason and with a good lineup, bench, rotation and back end of the bullpen we have a good chance to make it to the World Series and win.
Yankees win!!! Thaaaa Yankees win!!!
AL East #10, as I’ve said all year…
#10 in a row that is… (not total, obviously…….)
I think we’re catching Boston and winning the division. I almost feel like all of Boston is waiting for it. Even the quotes from the players that keep saying stuff like “well, if the Yankees keep winning like they are, we’re not going to win the division”…it’s already in their heads.
The most important thing to me about the evolution of this season is for the first time in years, I see a team who cares about each other and is leaving the ego’s at the door. They are tougher. They protect each other and they don’t garbage from the other team.
Let Youkilis or Varitek pull their tough guy antics next week or in Boston in Sept. and they’ll end dodging fastballs. This is the first time in a long time I can say that this team fights back and I’m not talking about fists, I’m talking about the aura. It’s back. Boston is scared and when we wipe the floor with Schilling, Wakefield and Lester and smack Dice K around some more, it will destroy their season.
I know I’m alone, but I actually think there’s a chance that if we win the division, the Red Sox miss the playoffs. With the way the Mariners (who have a lot of games in hand) and Angels are playing, they can’t just fall into the wild card cushion. I think the Yankees know this and it’s why they feel like they’re going all in.
So far 3 people have voted for a total collapse.
Shame on you for voting 3 times Kasey.
Yanks win the East. Records for both teams since Break will continue. The 6 games against Bos will make it for us.
Wild Card——————–World Series Champs
I wonder what results a similar poll would get on a Red Sox blog? Is there panic up north already?
finish 29-9,
99 wins
win division
Will miss playoffs!!!
