Having fun in the warm California sun

biga.jpgArrived at the park early today and there are a grand total of 10 people here as far as I can tell.

George King of the Post and I are in the press box and there are eight Yankees on the field.

Wilson Betemit and Shelley Duncan are working out at first base with Joe Torre, Don Mattingly, Tony Pena, Rob Thomson and minor-league instructor Mick Kelleher, who is with the team for a few days. BP pitcher Charlie Wonsowicz is taking the throws.

I covered the Mets of Art Howe for two years and can’t remember once when they had guys on the field five hours before the game.

Watching Shelley throw to second or third is pretty amusing. It’s like he’s throwing a rabid squirrel. But give him credit for being out in the hot sun working on it.
