Unless Mussina comes to spring training determined with something to prove and (earns) his way on the starting staff, he's in for a tough road. Seldom does a pitcher gain velocity with age and unless he does his other pitches all look the same to hitters.
If presented in the right way, he can waive his no trade clause and accept a deal to a team (Cleveland ?) closer to home with hopes that he can reinvent himself.

The Chi-Sox are not laying down, they just su ck. Hopefully they play Cleveland and Detroit tough come September.

Re: 2008 Yanks rotation. Let's say Mussina is traded and Pettitte picks up his free money i.e. his $16M player's option for '08, they could go with this rotation:

Wang/ Pettitte/ Hughes/ Chamberlain/ Kennedy or White

The 3-5 compete to stay in the rotation if Clemens wants to return for June on and the Yanks want him back.

_Why do you assume Moose will be back? The most difficult part of moving him IMO is getting him to waive the NTC. If he is faced with the prospect of pitching out of the bullpen, I think he would waive it, but who knows. I don’t think his salary is particularly oppressive(given that it is only one season) and I’m sure the Yanks would contribute some money to whatever team took him._

How do you know that he'll be faced with pitching out of the pen?

We don't don't that. I like Kennedy too, but do you really expect the Yanks to come out of Spring Training with 60% of your rotation made up of rookies?

I know these kids have a lot of talent and may very well be good pitchers for a long time. But, they are still rookies.

I don't see the Yanks giving Kennedy a slot in the rotation right away.

Pete,
I think the concert your niece went to is in Hershey, Pennsylvannia because me and my family went to Hershey Park two days ago and saw billboards with Corbin and Aly and AJ and it said they were going to perform together at the Hershey Arena or something. When I was reading that part in your blog, I read it aloud because my nine year old sister was around and she came running and asked me what was going on. Little kids these days.

Moose will be back in 2007. So will Andy Pettitte.

Pettitte wanted that player option because of his health and lingering elbow problem he's had off and on for the last few years.

Clearly, that hasn't been a problem this season - so I expect Pettitte back in 2008.
