Kasey Anderson, I would venture to guess, was one of the first people who posted on his blog back in the spring of 2006 when we were on Blogspot. In addition to being a good (if pessimistic) Yankees fan, he’s an alt-country singer/songwriter who has a new album coming out Sept. 11 and will be touring this fall.

To learn more about Kasey, check out his web site.

Or his MySpace page.

Give a listen to his single “Long Way Home” here:

You can also download it off his web site.

Finally, Kasey will be touring his great land of ours., I encourage you to go, give him a listen and tell him the blog sent you:

pessimistic? after suffering through his whines, the last thing i’d do is go see him in person

  2. lC

Both links to Kasey’s sites are invalid.

Wise Fool’s Pub is an old blues club in Chicago which has hosted many legends. Pretty cool.

Of course, it’s now engilfed by the dredgeries of Lincoln Park, so getting over there to see some folk music is iffy.

  3. Todd Drew

This CD is excellent and I will certainly check out the New York City show as long as it doesn’t conflict with the post-season schedule.

  4. JRVJ

Yes, the guy’s music may be great (haven’t heard it yet), but it’s difficult to work up the enthusiasm to go see him from what I’ve read in this blog….

  5. jk

Good move booking NYC dates in October. See you at the Stadium, Kasey.

  6. Jeremy

Alt-country has been among my favorite genres since I saw the Jayhawks in college. I’ll definitely check out the album.

  7. Kill Schill-(ing)

I concede, I, too don’t like informers, name-droppers, nor Yankee fans who consistently disparage their players. And at one time or another, Kasey has been guilty of all three.

Still, I never hold an artist’s personality traits against him. Very often, the more obnoxious the artist, the greater the genius.

I congratulate him on the album and wish him success on the road. No one who isn’t an artist can appreciate how hard it is physically and emotionally to pursue one’s calling in the face of relentless criticism, discouragement, and indifference.

I only ask, in return, that if he ever appears on Letterman, Kasey wear a New York Yankees jersey. I’m tired of seeing only Red Sox nation represented, via Matt Damon, every year.

  8. Luke

    Kasey,
Maybe you should find a singer for your songs. As a singer, you make a great yankee fan LOL
Congrats on the CD-drop and I wish you success.

  9. Jeremy

    Tough crowd.

  10. Peter Abraham

    fixed the links.

and, c’mon, give the guy a break.

  11. Joe

I’m fairly new to this blog, although I’ve read Pete since he started at the Journal News.

What specifically did this Kasey write? It can’t be that bad, can it?

  12. SJ44

Some of you have to grow up. Pessimistic or not, Kasey is a good dude.

Some of get so worked up over nothing. Get over it.

Anybody who is from Seattle is ok in my book. Its one of the great American cities with very cool people.

Its always interesting to me the people that rip on Kasey.

They rip on him, then go off on players themselves in the game threads. It happens to the best of us.

Good luck with the album Kasey!

  13. Chris in MI

pls, less of this music crap and more Yanks, Mariners and Angels.

  14. Jonathon

C’mon on guys…this is good stuff. Regardless of his pessimism as a fan or not (and in all honesty aren’t we all guilty at one point or another of being pessimistic Yankee fans) you have to admit Kasey has some chops here.

Already on my ipod and looking forward to more.

Good luck with the CD and the tour Kase…

  15. saucy

Congrat to Kasay on his album coming out. I have no speakers at work, but will try to listen when I get home later today.

  16. CGramazio

As a fellow musician and poster on this blog(although not in sometime…life just gets busy, you know), I’m with SJ44, cut Kasey some slack. Being a quality musician is right up there with professional athlete when it comes to difficulty. I wish Kasey the best…try and get yourself a gig at The Hotel Cafe in LA while you’re out there, it’s right up your alley.

  17. Wolf In Pinstripes

Same here – another musician who is looking forward to checking out Kasey’s work. I don’t understand the ugly sentiments here – I have disagreed with kasey in the past on some things, but that’s all they are – disagreements. Big whoop. The majority of the time I agree with him and I’m glad to see him posting here a lot lately.

Kasey – looking forward to checking out the tunes and I wish you luck on the tour. If I can find a way to work it out, I’d love to head down from Lexington to Nashville to catch your show there. If you end up with an open date around then, I can suggestion a few places in the Lexington area that would be good clubs to fill in with a show.

  18. mel

Hey, Kasey. I thought you were so “gloomy” because you lived in Seattle, but maybe it’s because you’re a country songwriter! ;)

Seriously, I’m not a country music fan, but I listened to “Long Way Home” and “Weary Heart” and it was good stuff. In fact, it’s better that a lot of the stuff on our alternative rock station.

Best of Luck on the tour. Hope you make it safely through Red Sox Nation.

  19. Montana Mike

    Kasey:

See you in Bozeman (my home town) in October!

  20. ColoradoXJ13

sounds good, along the lines of Wilco, Son Volt, Lucero, etc. Too bad no Colorado dates, come out here and show us some love, I’d be there.

  21. Buddy

Hopefully the music is more upbeat than kaseys take on the Yankees.

  22. kasey

thanks very much for the post pete, and for the kind – and not-as-kind words, everyone else. hope to see some of you out at the shows or at the stadium in october.

firstly, i booked the tour giving the band a day off in new york in october on purpose. not a terribly pessimistic move.

secondly, i’m in a band full of die-hard mariners fans. the first thing i did to the tour van after i bought it was slap a yankees decal on there. the guys were not happy. oh well. my tunes, my van.

as for those of you who don’t dig the songs either because you think they’re crap or because i’ve criticized the yankees over the last two years, that’s your call. hopefully you’re the minority.

  23. kasey

“What specifically did this Kasey write? It can’t be that bad, can it?”

a ton of stuff, and nobody liked any of it. i think i caught the most stuff for insisiting that i thought the red sox would still win the division after the boston massacre last year.

  24. CGramazio

Hey Kasey, with you being from Seattle, do you know the guys from Mountain Con? I worked with them some years back when I was with Bong Load Records. Nice bunch of fellows, doing that Beck style mix of alt country/hip hop.

  25. Betty Humptor

If I just heard that randomly I would have guessed it was John Cougar Mellencamp trying to sing like Tom Petty.

  26. Richard

    Kasey-
Although i have almost always disagreed with your points-i always think the sky is NOT falling-i always respected you voicing your opinion. now, i respect your actual voice. i like the samples and will buy the album when it comes out. knowing you, i know you won’t listen to the dart throwers now either.
i hope you get a “yankees.lhblogs.com” t shirt you can wear on tour-especially in AL cities. i only wish you could fit a florida date (Jax or Tampa) on your sched so i could catch a live show.

  27. Guy Incognito

I LOVE the cover photograph and would pay for a poster-sized version. Kasey, if you have any left over at the end of your tour, let me know.

    isleslist at gmail dot com

  28. kasey

    guy incognito,

jason koski took the cover photo and would probably be willing to set you up with one. http://www.jasonkoski.com

    richard,

thanks for the compliments. florida just wasn’t convenient this time around, but we’ll be back out in the spring.

colorado we’ll hit before then. at the very least, i’ll do a solo show out there. KBCO is a great radio station, so artists like myself try to make col a priority. it just didn’t work with this routing.

mellencamp doing petty? i guess. never thought about it.

  29. mel

    Kasey,

The first person that came to my mind when I listened to your stuff was John Cougar Mellencamp. Would you consider doing a cover of “Jack and Diane”?

  30. LC

I saw Mtn Consolidated at SXSW about 5 or 6 years ago, they were terrific, but I’ve heard they’ve since taken a turn towards LAME.

    mel’s comment is CLASSIC.

  31. 'Annie Savoy'

    Hi Kasey –

Just like to wish you good luck and success on the tour – If you’re having a good time, so will the fans.

  32. tonyb

    Kasey,

Congratulations on the album and upcoming tour. Sounds good to my ears, and I’m sure it will be well received.

As an aspiring musician, I’m jealous – You’re living the dream man!

Best of luck out on the road.

  33. kasey

    mel,

don’t know if i’ll be covering mellencamp any time soon. my band does do a killer version of tom waits’ “union square,” if i do say so myself.

  34. Andrea

I’m not the hugest fan of pessimistic bloggers, or country music, but this is a pretty good song. congrats Kasey! And I lived in Albany for a few years–Valentine’s is a great venue. Have fun!
