Hopefully 38 pitches and 13 deposits it the right/centerfield bleachers.

    schilling is such a tool…

    Boston sweep. Book it!

I’m still in the camp who beleives that the Yanks will win the wild card. That being said, I think it’s important for them to continue to play well against the Sox (because of an anticipated playoff matchup). They’ve hit all three of those pitchers hard this year. Clemens has been in a good start, bad start, good start rut. Luckily, he’s on schedule for a good start. 2 out of 3 is a must, but a sweep is possible.

haha I love that Pete called him 38pitches. Hopefully that is what he’ll throw in the first inning.

  7. J-Dawg August 27th, 2007 at 3:29 pm

I’m glad that we don’t have to face Julian Tavarez in this series. I know that he’s a mediocre pitcher for the most part, but for some reason we have struggled twice against him this year. It must be his funky assortment of sinking stuff. I happen to like all three of these matchups. It’s a good opportunity to make up some ground while Seattle hopefully struggles against the Angels.

The Red $ox fans here in Mass. are just brutally obnoxious today. According to them, the sweep of the White Sox means the season is over and the coronation can begin.

The Yanks need to sweep this series badly if for no other reason than to give their fans a break from the bandwagon jumping, loud mouth punk cretins known as the Red $ox “Nation”.

  9. mel August 27th, 2007 at 3:59 pm

They’re happy b/c they swept the cellar dwellers of the AL Central? That’s rich.

  10. xryanx August 27th, 2007 at 3:59 pm

I’ll be at Daisuke vs Pettitte. Boston still sucks.

  11. Joe L August 27th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

A lot hinges on today. If Mussina spits the bit and we’re 8 back, I think it’s going to take a lot of the starch out of the the series and the Yankees.

I also think if we have to use Joba today, it’s not a good thing. I’d rather have him for Tuesday and Thursday for an inning.

The best case scenario is the Yanks offense somehow explodes today (against Verlander, not likely) and Mussina goes 5-6 innnings and only gives up up 5 or 6 runs. I’m not optimistic of this happening and we get through the rest of the game with Bruney, Edwar, etc….

That said, if we sweep the Sox, the division is back in play. Our competition level goes down after Boston and we’re gonna beat up on some teams again. Nothing would hurt the Sox more than to get crushed by the Yanks. Yeah, they’d still hold a 4 or 5 game lead, but they’d still have a 3 game series against us and have no margin for error again. So far, they’ve stood up to the charge and we didn’t take advantage of their slip up.

I don’t think it’s out of the question that we catch them, but I do think we have to hope the Angels beat the snot out of Seattle this week. If Seattle somehow passes the Angels and takes 1st place, I’m not sure we’re going to be able to hang in with the Angels for the wild card.

WOW, someone on the Yankee$$$$$ CLOG calling the team from Boston the Red $ox? Are you for real?

I’m sorry, which team has a higher payroll?

  13. Joe August 27th, 2007 at 4:17 pm

“If Seattle somehow passes the Angels and takes 1st place, I’m not sure we’re going to be able to hang in with the Angels for the wild card”.

Your logic is a bit crazy, but I think I know what your saying.

  14. Joe August 27th, 2007 at 4:19 pm

“WOW, someone on the Yankee$$$$$ CLOG calling the team from Boston the Red $ox? Are you for real”?

    The crazies are out today.

  15. saucy August 27th, 2007 at 4:23 pm

seattle could easily pass the angels, and i’m sure most here would rather face seattle over the angels in the playoffs, but i’m not gonna start thinking about anything like that now.

  16. The Daily Doormatt August 27th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

Oh, you’re right Joe, I’m crazy.

    Yanks – $189,639,045
    Sox – $143,026,214

    Sorry for being crazy.

  17. The Daily Doormatt August 27th, 2007 at 4:27 pm

And since I am crazy, here’s the link, because I made those numbers up:

“Oh, you’re right Joe, I’m crazy.

    Yanks – $189,639,045
    Sox – $143,026,214

Your payroll argument wasn’t crazy, just the fact that you have nothing better to do than patrol another team’s message board. Also, I didn’t understand “clog”, but I assumed it was just a typo.

  19. saucy August 27th, 2007 at 5:07 pm

yeah, stick with cigars and relax dude…

  20. The Joba House Rules August 27th, 2007 at 5:20 pm

Do those numbers include what Boston paid to meet with Dice-K before he signed?

  21. Motown Yankee Fan August 27th, 2007 at 5:33 pm

Doormatt – The salary argument, really? Yankee fans could trot out the homegrown vs. free agency/bad trades, etc. argument, and we’d win that one. Let’s settle it on the field, like ball players, OK?

  22. Drive 4-5 August 27th, 2007 at 5:34 pm

I’m the one calling them the Red $ox. They like to portray themselves as the ’80 Olympic hockey team, the ultimate underdogs. That is the ultimate b.s.

Underdogs don’t bid $51 mil for a pitcher no one else bid higher than $39 mil on. No underdog bids against themselves and offers JD Drew $70 mil. No underdog gives Julio Lugo $36 mil. No underdog spends $8 mil for Gagne to pitch perhaps 20 innings. No underdog has a $20 mil left fielder.

The Yankees are not underdogs and neither are the Red $$$ox. The 2004 World Series Champion still holds the record for the highest payroll to ever win a World Series. You want to play the money game then call a spade a spade.

  23. ray August 27th, 2007 at 5:50 pm

I’m a Red Sox fan but I have to admit that Drive4-5 is right. Gone are the days when the Red Sox can plead poverty because they may not have the biggest payroll but I believe it is the second highest in baseball behind the Yankees.

Peter…I don’t know if you will read this message but there was a particularly nasty message from a Red Sox fan called 12345678 yesterday. The message personally attacked you and I just wanted to say that this guy definitely does not represent all of the Red Sox fans. I appreiate what you do here and his post was completely inappropriate and distasteful.

  24. EY August 27th, 2007 at 5:54 pm

I would’ve liked to see Wang vs Daisuke, prove to them that 300K/year is much better than 51 million. But I guess I’ll take a Schilling-shelling with him pitching 38 pitches every inning and gone by 3rd inning.

If so called “Nation” is celebrating after they swept White Sux, then we should be having a parade because we did sweep both series against Cleveland, the current AL Central leader. RSN have such low standards…

  25. Drive 4-5 August 27th, 2007 at 6:15 pm

    ray,

A reasonable Sawx fan?? I didnt know one existed! Don’t tell me I’ve found a Sawx fan I like!

  26. Andrea August 27th, 2007 at 6:21 pm

I’ve met a few reasonable Sox fans. They do exist! It’s just that the unreasonable ones are usually the loudest. I’ve actually sat by a few at games before. Sox fans can be very pleasant people. Ray is proof!

  27. Wild Card August 27th, 2007 at 6:48 pm

    Ray, that’s refreshing. Thanks.

  28. jahfool August 28th, 2007 at 3:33 am

surprisingly enough, reasonable fans do exist on both sides of the rivalry. But you know what they say about the squeaky wheel…

Motown YF- I agree, let’s settle it on the field. I have high hopes that this is the year the Sox take the Division outright. I highly enjoyed the back-from-the-dead sucker punch in 2004, but I’m still missing the satisfaction of coming out on top over the long haul of the regular season. I was barely sentient in a household with one TV channel (that didn’t show baseball) the last time that happened. Should be a good series.

It is definitely time to put Mussina out to pasture. He hasn’t had it working for most of the season, and people are starting to omit the “borderline HOF” tag that used to go beside his name.
