There’s a new kid in town

ian.jpgIn other news, guess who’s on the mound at Yankee Stadium getting used to it for his start on Saturday?

Yes, it’s Ian Kennedy, who’s with Scranton pitching coach Dave Eiland.

Smart move by the Yankees to give the kid a chance to see the Stadium and get acclimated a bit.

  1. crawdaddy

Good luck to Ian and the Yankees on Saturday.

  2. Negativity Rules

who’s the dude catching? Get the complete story, Pete.

  3. Rebecca

    Much excited for Saturday’s game!

  4. Peter Abraham

Roman Rodriguez, one of the bullpen catchers. Not Jorge.

  5. Master Shake

Good luck Ian. Too bad most of us will not get to see your debut thanks to Fox & Asshat Selig.

  6. Negativity Rules

As far as we know, the Yanks survived this series with the Sox without the use of stretchers and body bags. Considering what happended the matsui, doug miengdgcgic, Karstens in the past, that’s as good news as any.

  7. Stef

Your faithful readers want more, more, more on Ian and all the inside scoop!! It’s vicariously exciting to watch someone make the big leap onto the biggest stage in the world.

What’s he like? What are his first reactions to everything? Did he meet any of the players this afternoon? Was he in the clubhouse with them? Did you happen to see Joba with his best friend today?

  8. Negativity Rules

Thanks, Pete. Jorge could use the break.

  9. Dan

Pete – do you know if he is allowed in the dugout and/or clubhouse pre-game or during the game?

i’m really down on kennedy after reading that scouting report this morning. at this point i just want him to survive and not pull a chase wright on us – a la 4 lazers to his confidence after a few good innings.

i guess it is a good alternative to moose…

  11. Go NYR

On Joba- If he did that intentionally, good for him. There was no warning at the time and he should not have been kicked out. There is no bigger baby than Youkilis. He is always screaming and cryin about somethin. He’s a whiner. Whether it was intentional or not, its part of the gmae and if Youkilis doesnt like it, he should quit. The fact that there was no warning, Youkilis did not get hit and Joba git kicked out is ridiculous.

  12. frits

dan – he’s not allowed in the clubhouse at all because he is not on the 40 man roster. i believe this was mentioned in an earlier post today.

  13. mel

    Go NYR,

Kevin wasn’t crying, I think he was in shock. lol.

From what I read here, Beckett had some choice words that no wet-behind-the-ears, 21 year-old rookie phenom pitcher should ever have to hear.

  14. Rocco

    I’ll be there!!!!

  15. Master Shake

@ nate c, stop worrying. Ian is no Chase Wright.

  16. Jeremy

I’d be happy if Kennedy’s debut matched Chase Wright’s (5 IP, 3 ER, 10-3 win against Cleveland).

  17. Big Johnson

“i guess it is a good alternative to moose…”

Its an alternative, thats it. Clippard, Desalvo, Karstens, the list goes on. Kennedy pitching is nothing more than a crapshoot. Cant really argue heavily against it, but to fully expect resounding success is completely unreasonable. Not even one minor league starter callup, of which there are numerous this year, has worked out well…yet.

This move gives Moose more rest and a chance to win the lottery in a playoff run. Thats it.

To compare Ian to Desalvo/Karstens/Rasner/Wright is plain laughable. Go look at his stats as he pitched at every level this year.

    146.1ip 91h 31er 6hr 50bb 163k .182baa. The only thing that could raise a flag is a .88 go/ao.

  19. Matty

There’s a new kid in town

    I don’t wanna hear it.

  20. MGW

    Nice one, Matty [Eagles] :-)

  21. Brett

pete, what was that……taken with a camera phone???? j/k buddy

  22. Brandon

Kennedy is not Chase Wright lets just get that out the way , he is waaaay better than Chase. GOOD LUCK IAN !! I hope you gain the MISTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR KENNEDY nickname :D

  23. Josh

Alright, Karsten/Desalvo/Wright/Igawa are on a different level than Rasner. Rasner was actually pitching well before the injury and he could be fighting for the final spot in the rotation next year. At the least, he is a better long reliever than sean henn and probably Britton.

  24. Shdw

He better not be a Chase. I watched Chase Wright pitch last night Vs. the Sea Dogs (Boston’s AA) and he gave up 5 runs off of 4 hits in the 3rd inning. It was painful to watch.

  25. Jason O.

hopefully, with this “New Kid in Town,” people do not “start walking,” if you know what I mean.

  26. pounder

With a name like Kennedy and in the largest Irish city in the world,if he is a success, look out Jeter, your glamour days are over.

  27. Hughes Your Daddy?

I hope that debachle in Boston wasn’t the last we see of Chase Wright. I hope it didn’t mar his confidence too bad.

I hope to see him back up here after he gets his stuff together at some point in the future.

  28. Shdw

Well I hope we don’t see him again until he can hold down the AA teams at least. He’s a joke right now.
