There have been many pitchers over the years who have thrown no-hitters and had mediocre careers. one comes to mind, a guy who did it in his second MLB start just like Buckhole, Wilson Alvarez. We will see who has the better career, Buckhole or Hughes....You Bosox fans need not worry about the Yankees farm system, it is loaded with several more studs on the way. Tabata, Betanence, Jackson, Sanchez, Horne, just to name a few. Let's see in the fall who has more top 100 prospects.

"Buccholz is having a good season, as good as probably the third best Yankee minor league season this year which was had by Alan Horne."

Did Alan Horne throw a no-hitter today???

I'll wait for a response :)

Pete, you wrote, "Kill-Schilling:

"I think a story on a 21-year-old kid who was on the disabled list for 3 months “not fulfilling his potential would be kind of stupid, personally.

He had two serious leg injuries, so of course he has looked different. He’s not pitching well, obviously, but I’m not going to judge on on a lost season like this."

A "stupid idea"?

Well, first I would respond, with something an editor once told me, an article can only be as stupid as its author.

Second, while perhaps, it's elementary to you why Hughes thus far has failed to meet expectations, it isn't so self-evident to many of us less sophisticated analysts.

Is the explanation as simplistic as that he missed three months of the season? God, I hope so. But I fear something more about his mechanics might be awry, as Carlos Gomez' article implies.

After all, simple explanations, in my experience, tend to be the province of the simple.

"Carson are you serious? What was Don doing at the airport? shouldn’t he be at the game?"

Absolutely. Zimmer was sitting there with his wife, watching the game along with us at Fox Sports bar in LGA. He mentioned that he doesn't really play an active role in Tampa Bay's operations anymore, and was actually here for a TV appearance.

Probably one of the coolest things I have ever done - talking baseball with Zim. (Actually, more like asking him a question, then attempting to soak in everything he said).
