I just do not see Yankees winning another WC with Torre at the help, especially given the direction in which the team is going with young players. Those of you who think that Torre has earned the right to continue as manager as long as he wants, please wake up. He did not win any thing in the playoffs in the last six years. In fact, Yanks lost or did not win win becasue of his bonehead moves. He won in the first five years and for that he was very well taken care of. He is paid 7 mil/year which is much higer than the next higher manaer salary.

When Torre complains (softly) about Jobba rules to the media and Cashman says he does not want to discuss with media, unlike Torre, that should tell something that there is friction developing. Without Cashman's support Torre is a certain goner.

Now, regarding Posada and Mo, if Torre is gone they will also go? Be realistic. They will go somewhere and will have Torre there to manage them? The bottom line is Yankees will probably offer them more money than any other team and that is what thier decisions will be based on. How Mattingly or Girardi will be less appealing to them than other managers of other teams who may be interested? Not only that, just like Torre, they were well taken care of by Yankess fro many years. Loyalty goes both ways.

Reasonable Red Sox Fan,

Evidently, "reason" is no guarantee of wisdom or common sense.

To expect praise and validation for a Red Sox players' accomplishment on a blog populated by ardent Yankeee fans is the height of narcissism, egomania, delusion, naivete or all of the above.

It's a little like declaring oneself a "reasonable" jihadist and wondering why Americans don't appreciate the beauty and profundity of Islam.

The Red Sox-Yankee rivalry is a tribal battle. Yankees fans don't like your team or your players. Worse, we cannot abide Red Sox fans. And were we to visit the Red Sox fan boards at the Boston Globe or Boston Herald, Yankee fans, no doubt, would encounter an equivalent animosity.

As for Pete, well, I wouldn't take too much umbrage from what he had to write about Buchholz or any other Red Sox, player or fan.

If it make you feel any better, Pete often makes snide, contemptuous, and tactless remarks about Yankee players as well. Edwar Ramirez was so distraught after the Yankees demoted him in July, he couldn't speak to reporters without dissolving in tears. For some reason, this sufficiently amused Pete to prompt him to make some flippant comment about "no crying in baseball" No one ever accused Pete of being a paragon of empathy or compassion.

In fact, on occasion, Pete even disparages the opinions and arguments of some of his blogs' most frequent visitors and loyal posters.

Only a fool looks for "reason" amid a war between tribes.

OK, let me get this straight...This blog grew into what it is due to the care and feeding of many devoted Yankee fans. However, instead of being rewarded for all of our hard blogging work, we have to put up with links to Red Sox blogs and one inane comment after another by mindless, moronic Sux fans. Does this make sense to anyone?

* It's September 2, and the Yankees are playing below .500 against both the AL East (26-27) and the AL West (15-16). Boston's marks are 32-21 and 18-17 respectively.

* They're also below .500 on the road (31-35) and just 2 games over .500 in interleague play (10-8). Again, Boston is 40-31 and 12-6 respectively.

* Yankee fans bitch about how the White Sox rolled over for Boston in last weekend's sweep, but the MFY themselves are 27-11 vs the AL Central and they still have 3 upcoming vs KC.

* Meanwhile the Red Sox (now 20-11 vs the Central) finish with a 4-game set vs MIN. Assuming no rainouts, Boston will finish the season having played 6 fewer games against that division, and with a schedule skewed against the Central's better teams.

* In fact, those 6 additional games for the Yankees vs the AL Central amount to 2 extra vs the White Sox and 4 extra vs the Royals -- the two weakest teams in the division. Their combined record against them this year: 12-5.

Without that little fringe benefit, the MFY would be a helluva lot further back than 6 games, and the Chicken Little panic brigade over here would have been silenced before they ever spoke.

The Yankees have held a meeting and decided not to play like crap AT ALL for the rest of 2007...as a result, they have guaranteed a record of AT LEAST 20-5 ( or better ) over the last 25 games, which includes a sweep of Boston IN BOSTON !. This will put them at 96-66 and Boston has a pretty good chance that the Red Sox finish AT BEST 12-13 over the last 25 games.( figuring in that sweep AND the injury bug that FINALLY is taking its yearly visit at THEIR clubhouse ) This puts that Yankees at 96-66 and division champions and the BoSox at 94-68, 2 games out and fighting for their lives to even be in the playoffs. You can all relax now.....ALL IS WELL.....oh, and wait until you see them DISMANTLE what's left of the fastest sinking ship in the AL ( the once HOT, now ICE COLD Seattle Marooners )

How's this for an injury update? I found this obituary for Mike Mussina:

http://jimbarton20.blogspot.com/2007/08/mike-mussina-39.html

somewhat in poor taste, but funny if you don't like the Yankees.

Personally, there is no way in hell I want Joe Torre back next year. Yesterday, Joe basically had no idea what to do in a 2-1 game in the seventh inning. How is he going to figure out how to handle Phil, Joba, Ian and other that comeup through the farm system.
