Nice comment about a young kid trying to get his life together and who is a much bigger success than anyone here will ever be. It is obvious Peter was trying to be "cute and funny" but it was really pathetic. I am looking forward to the jokes about herpes and the mentally retarded next (a subject Peter and Yankees fans seem to have personal experience with).

no professional journalist would ever make a comment like that... and some scumbag fans really loved it too. What a class act all around.

I hope someone else writes a story about Peter's painful rectal itch so we can all have a big laugh about that. I also DARE YOU to leave this post up!

I have been a Yankee fan for over 40 years so I am not a Boston fan beating on the Yankees. That being said is it just me or do the Yankees pamper their prospects. This Joba rule thing is crazy. Look at the Boston prospects they play and they are playing well too. Hughes was shielded all the way since the day the Yankees signed him. He was pampered and kept away from situations that would have challenged him. Now he is in the majors and some failure has come his way and is it me or is he not ready for this. I hope he is not a mental case brought on by shielding him for the last few years.

So true, Boston Dave.

We should have one blog for people whose only comments about the Yankees are:

"Great job."

"No, really great job"

"No, no really, really great job."

Because we all know that Torre is infallible and we shouldn't dare criticize him. After all, he has four rings.

Thanks for the terrific suggestion.

Pete, Any thoughts on starting another blog? I think all the negative posters need their own spot to complain. I don't think some people realize that the best teams still lose 40% of the time.

I loved the laptop line - its one of many reasons why you are one of the greatest sportswriters in America and part of a new bread of hybrid journalists/online bloggers.

The Bucky kid looks like a punk to me. Anyone who breaks the law should be in jail, not pitching in the major leagues. You would never see Casman/Torre allow something like this to happen on their watch.

Also, does ESPN mention the laptop theft in their columns? No way, how about some fair and balanced reporting from them.

Also, its clear that the Sox had the umps in the bag, Joe West hates the yanks. That ball was clearly not a strike, not even close. Maybe if it had been a ball, his pitch count would have gone up and he wouldn't have had all of this publicity?

Pena kills the Yanks on Friday and then kills the Yanks today. The only legitimate HR hitter on the DRays kills the Yankees twice in 3 days. Even if the bullpen did not have a lefty to pitch to Pena it was obvious to me Pettitte was laboring. Bring in Vizcaino who can get lefthanders out.

I have to put some blame on Guidry too. "We will not let Carlos Pena beat us again" is what Guidry should have made every pitcher recite before today's game. This game was a disaster and Joe Torre and Ron Guidry should take the blame.

I saw the no-hitter and I have to say that the strikeout of Markakis was questionable. It looked low but it was too close to take. Markakis should never take a called third strike for a no-hitter. Swing the bat and see what happens. Roberts who never strikes out was swinging all the way. Patterson was swinging and hit the ball hard right at Crisp.

The laptop line is funny, but a little sad.

Because the Buchholz kid has already accomplished more than you ever will.

Torre loyalists?

Give me a break. That is precisely the reason Torre shouldn't come back. These veterans are far too comfortable with Torre, similar to an old pair of shoes.

It's time these guys played for a manager who kept them on their toes.

If they don't like it, they can leave, but of course they won't.

You really need to stop cheerleading for Torre, Peter.
