More on Roger Clemens

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Sep 04, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The official team report on his injury is that Roger Clemens has “inflammation of the right elbow.”

That’s team-speak for “we don’t want to tell you what’s exactly wrong.” But both Joe Torre and Brian Cashman believe that Clemens will pitch again this season, perhaps within in the next 10 days.

“This was the best news we could have received,” Cashman said.

Clemens will be in Houston tomorrow for a second opinion and an injection. How he responds to the injection will determine the next step.

The rotation for the KC series is:

Friday: Ian Kennedy
Saturday: Andy Pettitte
Sunday: Probably Mike Mussina

Audio from Clemens and Torre to come.

…and Mussina has to pitch on Sunday because ???? this is stupid…IF they do that, then Wang pitched on 2 full extra days rest ! Totally asanine…the starters are ALREADY getting extra days’ rest as it is….Moose should only be used IF Clemens does not come back for the Boston Series and even then, IMO, I would lean towards ANYONE else but him…he has No Injury, No Heart and NO BUSINESS starting ANY more games for the Yankees…EVERY….( just IMO, though )

i don’t think it would be too crazy to throw joba into the rotation.

i mean, what do we have to lose at this point?

i never thought we’d be in this bad of shape 5 days after sweeping the red sox…

    Don Vito,

You shouldn’t sugarcoat things. Tell us how you really feel.

  4. migames September 4th, 2007 at 5:48 pm

no heart. im sure that mussina really doesnt want to win when he goes out there. In fact, we should pick up eckstien from the cards and have him pitch based on “heart”….

    Nate C–What do we lose?

    The eighth inning, man.

This is a huge test for the Yankees. What happens won’t like determine the playoff scenario, it WILL determine it.

Let’s hope they’re up to the task.

Joba on the 15th against Boston …IF…Clemens is not ready and healthy enough to pitch that game….that would be great, but the way the Yankees are talking….WHEN PIGS FLY !!! LOL Also, the way it shakes out, it looks like Hughes pitching the 3rd game of that series…MAYBE you throw someone else in THAT spot ? IF and only IF the kid continues to struggle in his starts vs. Seattle and Toronto ???

“i mean, what do we have to lose at this point”?

What do we have to lose? A lot, that’s what.

  8. Don Vito Bellamo September 4th, 2007 at 5:50 pm

Joe…I’ll try not to hold back so much in the future….

  9. xryanx September 4th, 2007 at 5:50 pm

That has losing two of three to Kansas City written all over it.

    …Wow.

This is a really pessimistic bunch, isn’t it?

  11. Joe September 4th, 2007 at 5:53 pm

Folks, let’s not give up on Hughes still being a big contributor this year.

    It sure is, Rebecca.

    Pete -
With regards to Clemens’ blisters on his foot…. I once played most of a high school football season with a blister on most of the bottom of a big toe. It was ugly-skin was gone. The only reason I was able to play decently was our coach showed me how to make a “donut”. You take a fairly thick piece of foam rubber and cut out a hole a little larger than the blister. You then tape it very securely in place. Once done, you could run on it and not feel a thing. What are the trainers doing for this problem, do you know??

Sunday will probably be Wang, instead of Mussina. Especially with this solid low-pitch-count outing.
