Actually, Dave, no one can. You can talk about it, but if you can define it, it's not "True Yankee". Sorta like love in that sense. When one is a True Yankee, everyone knows it. DiMag, Mantle, Murcer, those were True Yankees. Billy Martin, Thurman Munson, Phil Rizzuto, Whitey Ford, True Yankees all. Jetes, Mo, Posada, Andy, all True Yankees. I say Alex is a true Yankee - he voluntarily gave up his position to Jeter when he came over. He talked his way into the lineup last night and on a gimpy ankle blasted two outta the yard. He wants to succeed in NYC, wants to be a legend. True Yankee.
Ed Whitson, Carl Pavano, NOT True Yankees.

Beautiful win last night. Great effort from Hughes, A-Rod being A-Rod, Joba getting it done . . . lots of good highlights to remember on the off-day.

she's notorious for making assinine, drive-by, posts here and never sticking around to back anything she says up.

she'll never read the responses.

Hey Annie...

You do realize that Ruth came to the Yankees for money?

That Reggie came to the Yankees for money?

Clemens, Boggs, Henderson, Maris, Key, Wells, Cone, Nettles, Rivers, Piniella, Hunter, Lyle, Gossage, O'Neil, Martinez, Hayes, Strawberry, Duncan, Raines, Fielder, Girardi, Gooden, Wetteland, Knoblauch, Brosius, El Duque, Davis, Nelson, Stanton... they all came to the Yankees for money.

An awful lot of them got rings as Yankees. After coming to the Yankees for money.

Huge win for us last night. If you saw the final score, and not the game, you don't realize how tight a game it was! But Hughes and esp. A-Rod were huge for us in a game we had to have!!! What an eighth inning !

I think that everyone just needs to accept the fact that A-Rod is one of the greatest players to ever play the game of Baseball. These discussions about true Yankee or not, are stupid. Major League Baseball is the most fickle of sports, a player is considered successful when he comes through 30 percent of the time. Jaba Chamberlain said it best yesterday when asked about not allowing any runs yet this year: "the game is set up for you to fail."

A-Rod had a "bad year" last year that anyone would have taken. Look we all know the numbers so I won't spit them out again. The more prevalent "disease" might be "can't hit in the playoffs-itis" and lets face it he wasn't the only one with a serious case last year.
