Alex Rodriguez seems to feel right at home as he belted two more homers in an easy win against Kansas City.

There is bad news, however, as Derek Jeter has a sore knee and will sit out today. This notebook also has word on a bunch of players getting called up.

The Sunday Baseball Notes looks at how baseball gets treated differently than football when it comes to drug stories.

Finally, in today’s Boston Globe, Kevin Youkilis wonders why the Yankees seem to hate him.

    Hi,Pete,
You really are working hard and never sleep!
Hope this video can help you to take a break. It is a Japanese comedian trying to throw a new pitch he create(the birth of a magic ball). It is really creative!!

    Oh, Kevin Youkilis.

did he seriously just compare himself to Paul O’Neill?

  3. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 3:33 am

    Yes @ Andrea

  4. Larry Mahnken September 9th, 2007 at 3:36 am

Kevin Youkilis is a whiny self-entitled little b*tch.

I realized this when he got in Doug Mientkiewicz’s face when he slid in feet first on a close play at first, when the pitcher was making the play at the bag. As though Mientkiewicz should have just not tried to be safe or something.

  5. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 3:42 am

I’m looking forward to seeing Bronson Sardinha and Ross Ohlendorf. Hopefully, Ohlendorf opens some eyes with his nasty sinker and fastball, and maybe his secondary pitches.

  6. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 3:57 am

I don’t know how he or any other person can compare him to Paul O’Neill. I don’t see it. Paul played the game hard without any of the extra antics that Youkilis hows often. I’m not going to talk about Kevin Youkilis anymore.

  7. Mehdi the Troll killa September 9th, 2007 at 4:09 am

Hopefully Youkilis will stop saying Hopefully.

  8. JC September 9th, 2007 at 6:47 am

    Kevin, I know Paul O’Neill.

Paul O’Neill was a friend of mine.

You sir, are no Paul O’Neill.

  9. Bart September 9th, 2007 at 7:40 am

Who’s spot is Ohlendorf taking on the 40-man? Beam? Veras? Our minor league teams are too good – we’re running out of dead weight. We’re going to need to weed out the DeSalvo/Wright/Clippard/Rasner/Karstens/Henn level of player by next year if we want to have room to call up a Jackson/Gardner/Tabata/Robertson/Horne/E Duncan. These are great problems to have.

    >>Jeter has what the Yankees are describing as patellar tendinitis.

  11. john September 9th, 2007 at 7:53 am

I have patellar tendinitis and I don’t think 1 day off will mean much.

On Youk…stop complaining…Pedro used to hit Jeter and Soriano routinely and threw at Karim Garcia’s head. It may or may not have been intentional but he missed by 2 feet. The Baltimore incident with Cabrera received zero media coverage-but since a Yankee did it, it’s like they’re the only team ever to do such a thing. Same with the “ha” play. It’s like no one has ever done such a thing before and no team would stoop so low.

  12. Winfield killed my seagull September 9th, 2007 at 8:01 am

Ask Youk if he ever saw O’Neill throw a tempur tantrum on one of the Umps in the Yankeeography. Paul seemed hard on himself but never seemed to blame others when things went wrong. Plus he was on Seinfeld……sorry Youk!!

the one thing about being a 2nd city team, who thrives on their “woe-is-me” complex, nobody (Epstein) is held accountable.

  16. LCâ„¢ September 9th, 2007 at 8:34 am

That Youkilis article was hard to read. SOOOO much whining and woe-is-me b.s. Just stfu already, Kevin.

  17. Jim Clark September 9th, 2007 at 8:38 am

Is Luis Vizcaino really a shirker as the notebook suggests?? Or is this a case like Mike and the Mad Dog ripping Pedro Martinez for being gutless and Martinez went on the DL for a year.
Nice note on how the National Felons League gets a free pass for its obviously juiced players. Just like it does for having its package of out of town games being a direct ticket exclusive.

  18. Stacey September 9th, 2007 at 8:55 am

“Jeter has what the Yankees are describing as patellar tendinitis.”

Ick I had that. Not fun. At least not for me.

  19. roger September 9th, 2007 at 9:10 am

Bart, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put Andy Phillips on the 60 day DL to free up a spot on the roster. It would mean that he is done for this season, but I think that is the case anyway.

Matsuzaka #18 shirts have taken a plunge in Boston. The fickle and easily BS’d fans are now using the shirts for waxing their cars, checking engine/transmission fluids, and shining wheel covers. Dice-K mania has seen the way of the toilet bowl.

  29. mary ellen September 9th, 2007 at 9:38 am

Now why would anyone want to pick on poor Yuky-less – with his adorable face and sweet disposition – just seems so unfair – NOT! He should have his mouth washed out with soap for comparing himself to O’Neill – get outta here, you big-headed twit. And those umps better be ready up there in Boston next weekend – the Sox throw at the Yanks, then they get tossed – GO YANKS!

  30. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 9:42 am

For some reason it’s, always the Yankees who always get tossed from the game, not the underdog Sawxs.

  31. Casey from Cali September 9th, 2007 at 10:02 am

    huh?…

“Hopefully we never see him. Hopefully we’re ahead and don’t see him. It’s like when we go to Anaheim, we want to see the Rally Monkey because that means we’re winning. Hopefully we never get to see him. If he pitches, hopefully we get him and get Mariano [Rivera], too.

“Hopefully we get every pitcher out there.”

“I looked at Derek Jeter’s numbers yesterday. He’s a great player and he’s batting .320 or with nine home runs and 59 RBIs. I said to myself, ‘‘You know, he might be hitting .320 but I still have more home runs and more RBIs. You’re still having a good year and it’s not over yet.’’

  34. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 10:13 am

Why do so many Sawx players have thier own bolgs? Is it maybe that they are all full of themselves?

  35. Phil September 9th, 2007 at 10:16 am

Seems Moose has come to grips with his status and is being a team player:

When the Yankees made the decision on Wednesday to pitch Chien-Ming Wang on Sunday and push Mussina back to the Toronto series, Mussina went straight to Torre and said that he would pitch in relief. Mussina was available on Friday and warmed up when Kennedy suffered some early trouble. Mussina did not appear in Friday’s game.

“That was all him,” Torre said of Mussina. “We certainly appreciated that.”

  36. tessa September 9th, 2007 at 10:18 am

Can we get an official ruling on if Youkilis was actually hit in the head by Proctor? I wish I had a MLB.com subscription so I could go back and watch the game. I thought he was hit on the shoulder. Please tell me if I am wrong.

If not, though – Is it possible that the Boston press has picked up an exaggeration by a member of the Red Sox and is reporting it as news? Color me astonished.

  37. Phil September 9th, 2007 at 10:19 am

I believe the notebook’s comment about Viz was not taking a shot at Viz calling him a shirker…but rather a joke about Torre’s use of him in all games/situations.

  38. pat September 9th, 2007 at 10:21 am

While reading the Globe for the Youklis article, saw this Pedroia quote about Cabrera throwing at him:

“The guy’s an idiot,” Pedroia said. “I dropped my bat. It kind of freaked me out. “I was upset they took him out of the game. He’s good to hit. He’s 9-15. The guy [stinks].

No matter the circumstance, if I was a professional baseball player and a guy said that about me, I’d want to make sure he corkscrewed himself into the ground the next time I faced him. That kind of quote should be followed by the quote- “oops, did I say that aloud?”

….so kevin youkillis is sitting around a week later wondering why the yankees don’t like him.
here’s a sunday morning story that might amuse those of you who don’t like him either. my 86 year old father who rode in the back of the family pick up truck from maine to yankee stadium to watch ruth, henrich, dimaggio, etc play back in the day calls youkilliis “useless”. not occasionally but always. he imitates his stance sticking his butt out like youkillis and puts a real ugly look on his face. it’s hilarious. the red sox fans next door (on main st cape cod) are always coming over and winding him up by saying youkillis did this or that. they always want to see him imitate his stance. one day they come over and they have a real youkillis game bat( there was benefit for a local skateboarder who has been on the critical list all summer with a severe brain injury and one of the local guys had a friend who works in the red sox clubhouse who got the bat from youkillis for the benefit).
the red sox guys want to see my father imitate youkillis with the bat in hand. they get their wish and as they’re laughing , i point out that my father is a lifelong red sox jinx and that by touching youkiilis’ bat and swinging it that youkillis was sure to go into a season long slump from that point on. youkillis was batting about .320 at the time so they weren’t too concerned being the cocky red sox fans they are. but as my father kept swinging the bat something in them told them this wasn’t a good idea anymore. after a mild struggle they got the bat back . but too late. the whammy was intact and in place. youkillis has hit about .230 since then.
when joba buzzed youkillis, my father had a big smile on his face. with the sweep in hand he was in a very good mood. he likes the theory i read on this blog, and told him about, that nasa says it was simply the gravitational field of youkiilis’ big head drawing the ball towards it.
at any rate with conrad’s whammy on youkillis that was put there with the help of red sox fans up to no good teasing my father, it’s no surprise that youkillis is having a few problems that he can’t understand. his only hope is to shut up, change his stance, have plastic surgery, and quit annoying my father.
then maybe the whammy will be removed.until then, he might want to think twice when he digs in and crowds the plate.

on a more serious note the skateboarder, caleb potter, is doing better but is not out of the woods yet. youkillis’ bat went for $650 and the town has raised over $200,000 for his medical expenses. it’s quite a story in itself with the power of blogs being shown with : http://calebpotter.blogspot.com/

  41. Deep to Left September 9th, 2007 at 10:28 am

So now this dork is comparing himself to Paulie AND Jetes? And Cabrera is an “idiot” and the guy “stinks”? And this guy can’t figure out why people don’t like him???

  42. The D train September 9th, 2007 at 10:30 am

Boston is your classic case of the inmates running the asylum. Francona won’t produce as much as a squeek for the running mouths of Schilling, Beckett, Youkilis, and Pedroia.

  43. Dr. Acula September 9th, 2007 at 10:30 am

_Why do so many Sawx players have thier own bolgs?_

that’s the most insightful comment of the day.

There’s a documentary on the 2003 Red Sox season call “Still, We Believe”

And at one point Epstein discovers he’s on back page of The Daily News with the headline “Revenge Of The Nerd” and Theo starts jumping up and down with glee over receiving “approval” from the NYC media. That tells it all. Can you imagine one of us becoming estatic over “good” back page coverage in the Boston Hearld.

    Dr. A–BRILLIANT!

  45. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 10:36 am

Mike Lupica just gave Rodney Harrison a pass because he was “recovering from injury and not trying to make himself better.” This is on ESPN “Sports Reporters.” And we wonder why there is a double standard in sports because of people like him. What an ignant (it’s SPELL RIGHT because that clown doesn’t deserve it to be spelled right!)A-HOLE!

  46. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 10:40 am

I don’t know who bothers me more, Youk, Dustin, or Affleck? Well if I had the chance, I would use my two fingers and strangle Affleck, to shut him up. So, I guess it’s Affleck.

  47. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 10:41 am

Don’t forget that Lupica is a BC grad and I believe his father is a New Englander.

  48. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 10:44 am

I guess my last word in my entry didn’t make it through the filter. Damn! Anyway, Youkilis should shut his trap and play baseball.

  49. hmmm September 9th, 2007 at 10:44 am

    is this real?

    if so, wow.

uhh, Kevin, you play 1B. for a 1Bman, you are simply an above average player. not bad, but not a star. if you played in KC, no one would ever pay attention to you.

    hahahhaha

    youlilis is a comedian.

    from his blog:

_Last year, my first full season, we fell behind and kind of knocked ourselves out of the playoff race._

knocked ourselves out? Right Youk, the Yankees winning five IN A ROW, up in Fenway, during the stretch drive, had nothing to do with your down fall.

    Thanks for the chuckles, E-ROC!

  54. Bob55 September 9th, 2007 at 11:00 am

I wonder what Youkilis’ hat size is? Does he have to have them specially made?

  55. Jim Clark September 9th, 2007 at 11:17 am

The reason why so many Red Sox players have blogs is Boston sports reporters are so terrible they have to in order to get quoted accurately. But if E-ROC is right about Lupica saying Rodney Harrison gets a free pass obviously New York has more than its share of idiots.. Does Bob Raissman give him “the dweeb of the week” for this?

  56. pounder September 9th, 2007 at 11:37 am

Up here on Cape Cod, we ex-patriot Yankee fans are having a weird experience.5+ games ahead, but with us in their rear view mirror,Sox fans are in a pickle….should we cheer too hard…..what if the yanks catch us….and oh my God,I hope we don’t see them in the playoffs.
Don’t know what it is about Useless,I sincerely hope it has nothing to do with his religious beliefs. The shame would be on us if that were the case.

  57. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 11:40 am

Lupica didn’t say that Rodney Harrison gets a free pass, but you can imply that he does from the statement that he made. That particular panel was discussing Ankiel and Glaus. At the tail end of that topic, one of the journalist brought up Rodney Harrison admitting usage of HGH while he was injured. Then Lupica interrupted and said he was just trying to recover from injuries and not make himself better. Then they went to commercial break. I guess ya’ll would have to watch yourselves.

  58. Beantown Bomber September 9th, 2007 at 11:46 am

Can someone please let Youk know that Scott Proctor did not hit him in the head back in June. I just watched the MLB TV archive of the game several times and although it was on its way to his chin it hit him smack in the shoulder. Kevin, I know it might make your cajones appear larger than your caveman bearded head to the Nation but its a bold faced lie. Better yet why don’t you ask Tony Conigliaro if it hit you in the head you big baby!

  59. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 11:48 am

Youkilis is a waste of space and a waste of breath, period.

As for the call-ups…Hopefully DeSalvo and Igawa ride the pine the rest of the way and/or only get to see the mound in games the Yanks are already winning by a landslide. Otherwise, I (for one) am glad to see Karstens back, and it would be nice to get a look at Ohlendorf and Sardinha (if they manage to get in a few games).

The one you never hear all that much about is Chase Wright. It seems odd to me that the kid came up and started a couple of games for us, and I haven’t seen his name come up again since that time. Is he really that marginal a prospect?

  60. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 11:53 am

    Dr. Acula,

You may be right, but I can’t forget the comments from him at the Daytona 500, when he went crazy about us getting ARod. I mean…he just reminds me of that character he played in Dazed (O’Bannion), I just want to hear him squeal like a pig.

And Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg are die-hard sox fans, but they don’t bother me.

  61. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 11:54 am

It’s always nice to have extra pitchers, but with luck we won’t need them =)

  62. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 11:56 am

Down the stretch, the only way these guys pitch is if the game is a blow out.

  63. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 11:56 am

Rebecca – Well, it would be nice to see some of the kids pitch in games the Yanks are running away with. However, I agree that let’s hope we don’t “need” them otherwise!

  64. Jim Clark September 9th, 2007 at 11:56 am

The chances of me watching or reading Mike Lupica are the same as Hillary Clinton shacking up with Ann Coulter…none. How does this little troll know what Rodney Harrison is thinking??
Because he is Mike Lupica and he will get people fired if they disagree with him as he did with Jason Whitlock and Mark Kriegel?

  65. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 11:59 am

OK, just had a gander at Chase Wright’s cumulative stats. I guess he is a pretty marginal “prospect” after all. Walks way too many guys and isn’t a power pitcher…Not a recipe for major league stardom! Oh well, at least we have plenty of bona fide “studs” being groomed down on the farm…We need the Chase Wrights of the world to fill out the rosters!

  66. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:02 pm

    Chi Dave–Yeah, you’re probably right.

Oh, man, before I forget. I need to thank you. So thank you.

  67. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 12:03 pm

I would like to see if Iggy or Chase Wright can get lefties out. We all know Henn can’t get it done. Mussina has an important start coming up. Hopefully, it’s a solid performance, but I’m not going to hold my breath. Does anyone know if the call-ups have been made official yet?

  68. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:03 pm

Rebecca – What are you thanking me for, pray tell?

  69. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:06 pm

Gooooood afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Yankee’s baseball.. Oh wait.. This isn’t the radio..

How are my fellow optimists today? Ready for some baseball?

  70. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:06 pm

E-ROC – I’d almost rather see Clippard get the start over Mussina. I have a feeling Toronto is really going to tee-off on old Mike, unfortunately!

  71. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

Chi Dave–If you scroll back enough entries you’ll see it.

Dude, so I’m in Syracuse and very looking forward to Jets/Patriots, at least till the Yanks come on, but Yahoo! says they’re showing Bills/Broncos.

    SO NOT FAIR!

  72. Mark September 9th, 2007 at 12:10 pm

A note on Youk: the guy drives me crazy, and I can’t say I like him much, but I do respect him. He’s a gritty player, a good hitter, and an absolute pest at the plate. He’s not nearly the hitter O’Neil was, but maybe he can get there over time. Not sure why he’s whining; do you ever hear Derek crying? And he’s been beaned by the Sox like 20 times!

Can’t stand Youk when he is working out those 10-pitch walks, but I don’t hate him like I do Curt Schilling, Jason Varitek, and even Papelbon (who gives off this air that I don’t like). He’s a guy that you have to respect, even if you’re a Yankee fan.

  73. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

I feel u, Chicago Dave. But Moose is the “long reliever” and “”"”spot starter.”"”" Hopefully, this is only one start for Mussina.

  74. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:13 pm

Rebecca – Oh, you mean for urging you to go ahead with the blog! Don’t mention it!!! It was no big deal…

By the way, I was so psyched for you when I saw Pete’s post (mentioning your blog). When I initially e-mailed him about it, nothing happened, but I think when everyone else started getting on the bandwagon and mentioning it in posts on this blog Pete could no longer ignore it! ;)

So, good for you! Hope you keep it up. (Sorry I haven’t posted too much, but I’ll try to get back soon!)

  75. E-ROC September 9th, 2007 at 12:15 pm

Mark–Did you forget about Josh Beckett?

  76. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:16 pm

Mark – I’d respect Youk if he would just shut his mouth and “play the game” (like he claims to do in that Boston Globe article). However, he keeps opening his trap and saying the most ludicrous things…

Youk is fast becoming a mini-Sheffield…You know, it’s the whole “world is out to get me” syndrome. That routine just gets so tired so quickly, you know?

  77. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:19 pm

    About Youk,

You guys are right. He wants the attention. A lot of the players here in Boston want that attention.. They’re basically told they are the most important people in town. They can do no wrong. They’re the scrappy underdogs..

It actually gets applauded around here.. It’s really mind-boggling

  78. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:23 pm

Chi Dave–Just giving credit where it’s due!

Youk doesn’t bother me as much as he should. Schilling bothers me a lot…but we all knew that.

  79. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:24 pm

“A lot of the players here in Boston want that attention.”

‘Cuz their mommas didn’t give them enough when they were younger! ;)

  80. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz ate my hamburger (aka Joe) September 9th, 2007 at 12:24 pm

    Rebecca (and everyone else),

Thanks for the recent book recommendations.

  81. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:27 pm

    Chicago Dave-

Apparently! Truthfully when guys like Youk or Pedroia first came up, I can remember hearing them on the local news sports channels around here.. And at first they were very humble and almost meek in interviews..

But the mindset of ‘Red Sox nation’ is unreal.. They test the waters a bit and realize that they can say anything and get away with it around here.. It’s crazy.

  82. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:28 pm

Rebecca – BTW – How badly do you think the Pats will beat the Jets today? My guess is they get pummeled and Pennington looks really bad…which may ultimately be a good thing, as I think Clemens should be the starting QB!

  83. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz ate my hamburger (aka Joe) September 9th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

What it comes down to is this, the Red Sox have a lot of jerks on their team.

  84. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:30 pm

DMan – I’m just so glad I live in Chicago instead of Boston! I don’t know what I would do if I was stuck in the heart of “Red Sox Nation”!

  85. Keith September 9th, 2007 at 12:30 pm

Fortunately the callups provide extra arms likely to be needed when Mussina gets a start courtesy of a loyal to a fault manager. They shouldn’t get too good and comfortable in their bullpen seats.

  86. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:32 pm

Oh man, Jets-Patriots. We should probably keep our jets allegiance quiet. Pete might get mad =]

  87. J-Dawg September 9th, 2007 at 12:33 pm

Prediction- Patriots 27, Jets 14. Sorry Rebecca!!

  88. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:34 pm

Great news for us! Bedard is now out for the season!!! So, with all those games we have left against the O’s, at least we won’t see him.

The O’s just bought Victor Zambrano (remember him?!) from the Pirates to fill in for Bedard.

  89. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:34 pm

    Chicago Dave-

I feel like I’m behind enemy lines! This blog is like the bunker I hide in when I need to contact my allies.

  90. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz ate my hamburger (aka Joe) September 9th, 2007 at 12:35 pm

Yeah, Pete is jealous of Bridget Moynihan. He really wanted to be the one to have Tom Brady’s baby.

  91. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:36 pm

DMan – Great description! I like that image… HA!!!

  92. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 12:41 pm

    I’m with you DMan.

  93. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:41 pm

J-Dawg: EVERYONE thinks the Pats are going to win…

  94. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Bad thing about living in Chicago…My early game is Green Bay-Philadelphia. SNOOZE!!!

  95. J-Dawg September 9th, 2007 at 12:43 pm

Rebecca- That’s how I feel about Tennessee and Jacksonville. Nobody down here or on TV is picking my Titans! :(

  96. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:44 pm

Ya it’s fair to say the Jets are underdogs.. Actually is there something below underdogs? Because nobody is giving the Jets a chance in this game..

    Vader-

Ahh you’re a Yankee fan stuck behind enemy lines too? It’s tough right?

  97. Kelli September 9th, 2007 at 12:45 pm

The nicknames the sillies of the so-called Red Sox Nation give players are the reflection of the mindset of Mass.
Names like Youk, Schill, Tek, Papi, Dice-K, , Belli, Paps and others are examples.
Every city tags names on players but Mass. is as kindergarten as it gets.

  98. J-Dawg September 9th, 2007 at 12:45 pm

Chicago Dave- My early Fox game is Carolina-St. Louis, YUCK! I think that I would trade with you and watch Green Bay-Philadelphia!

  99. Phil September 9th, 2007 at 12:47 pm

    Roger Clemens – The Rocket
    David Ortiz – Big Papi

    Pretty good Boston nicknames there.

  100. Dr. Acula September 9th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

    Rebecca, J-Dawg, everyone..

    Sopcast has a NFL wing:

    http://www.myp2p.eu/NFL.htm

    enjoy.

  101. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

    J-Dawg: I picked the Titans!

DMan: Well, when the Jets win it’ll be all that much sweeter ;)

  102. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

    Kelli-

Haha, I agree. But I think I hear ‘Americas team’ more then I hear nicknames of individual players.. Somebody needs to send the Red Sox a memo and let them know they spent 200 million in the off season..

  103. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:49 pm

Dr. A–can’t get it to open =(

  104. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

J-Dawg – Hmmm…That’s a close call! Still, I guess Philadelphia is a decent team, at least. Maybe I’ll watch to see how many times Favre gets picked off!!! (I think you could make a pretty good drinking game out of Favre’s propensity for getting intercepted, don’t you?)

  105. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:52 pm

Rebecca – Are you a Pennington supporter? Just curious…

  106. Stuart September 9th, 2007 at 12:52 pm

gonzalez should play ss today and giambi at 1B..

Wang is pitching Gonzalez can field and giambi’s bat makes up for gonzalez being an auto out…

Giamibi has good #’s off Grienke..

    any lineup info???

  107. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz ate my hamburger (aka Joe) September 9th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

Rebecca, does your optimism extend to the Jets?

  108. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

    Chi Dave–Yep!

    We’ve got the smart QB!

  109. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

Stuart – I think Torre said yesterday that Gonzalez would start at short today.

  110. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

    Stuart-

Yah thats a good call.. I’d like to see Gonzalez steal a couple hits away

  111. Rebecca--Nothing Beats the Power of Optimism + Squirrel September 9th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

    Clay: Sure, why not?

  112. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Rebecca – Give me smart AND a good arm! One without the other doesn’t really get you anywhere…Sorry Chad!

  113. J-Dawg September 9th, 2007 at 12:55 pm

    Rebecca- Thanks for picking us!!

Chicago Dave- We can also count how many other times Brett throws the ball into coverage when he has no chance of completing the pass. I say he throws at least 3 picks today!!

  114. Darrin September 9th, 2007 at 12:56 pm

Hey, has anyone else wondered what happened to our good friend *Seattle*? Hey, *Seattle* where are you buddy? You haven’t posted here in a while, are you okay?

    Hello?

  115. Dr. Acula September 9th, 2007 at 12:57 pm

    rebecca-

download sopcast first (scroll to middle of the page), then install and reboot.

    http://www.myp2p.eu/Programs/Sopcast.htm

  116. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 12:58 pm

J-Dawg – That’s a great point…This Favre drinking game is getting better all the time!

  117. DesignatedBlogger September 9th, 2007 at 12:58 pm

As far as Baseball being treated differently regarding steroids than football…well, yeah. Baseball is held to a higher regard, and to a higher standard than football. Baseball is nostalgic, romantic, passed down from generation to generation. Names like ARod and Griffey are used in the same sentence as Ruth and Mantle and Aaron, and fans actually know who those old-time players are.

More is expected of a baseball player, and when they let us down we feel it more deeply (witness the senator who was practically in tears when McGwire couldn’t say under oath that he didn’t use steroids). I hope baseball IS always treated differently than football, because it is a better sport.

I love Pennington, in fact, he might be my favorite Jet, however, I have serious doubts whether he can lead us to the promised land.

  119. J-Dawg September 9th, 2007 at 12:59 pm

    Thanks Dr. A!!

  120. J-Dawg September 9th, 2007 at 1:00 pm

I’ll be back in an hour when the Yankees start- hopefully the Titans will be ahead by at least two touchdowns by then!!

  121. Chicago Dave September 9th, 2007 at 1:00 pm

    What is Sopcast?

  122. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 1:00 pm

I’m watching ESPN and Chris Berman just said ‘Hello!, Hello McFly!?’.. A back to the future reference on ESPN.. Interesting haha

    Designated Blogger,

    Very well put.

  124. Luigi September 9th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

    lineups?

  125. Rey22 September 9th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

God I absolutely despise Kevin Youkilis

  126. Phil September 9th, 2007 at 1:04 pm

I don’t think one sport can be considered better than another.

  127. Phil September 9th, 2007 at 1:06 pm

    LF Damon
    CF Cabrera
    RF Abreu
    3B Rodriguez
    DH Matsui
    C Posada
    1B Giambi
    2B Cano
    SS Betemit

  128. Phil September 9th, 2007 at 1:07 pm

If you have YES, you might want to turn it on. Kim Jones’ interview with Joba’s dad is going to be shown after the commercial break.

  129. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 1:10 pm

Ahh rats wish I had YES.. Maybe it’ll show up on youtube or something later.. I’d really like to see it.

  130. mel September 9th, 2007 at 1:14 pm

    Chicago Dave,

Sopcast is a p2p player where you get all kinds of programming from Asia. Sports including NBA, NFL, and NCAA BB, movies, etc. Almost every Yankee game (even blackouts) is available. Just go to the p2p link given above.

  131. Vader September 9th, 2007 at 1:24 pm

    DMan,

The only problem living in Red Sox Nation is that the Nation grew 100x since 2004.

  132. DMan September 9th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

    Vader-

Ya, the thing is, any teams fanbase will get bigger if the team wins.. But usually, those fans stop being ‘bandwagon’ fans and actually learn about the team and the sport and such..

That hasn’t really happened around here as far as I can tell..

The only thing that has happened is a skyrocket in the sale of pink Sox hats…

  133. Twenty-Three Grannies September 9th, 2007 at 3:00 pm

That article is a great reason why I can’t stand Boston.

We get hit by you guys way more than we hit you, and what do us Yanks do? We take our base. What do you guys do? You lie about a pitch and make whiny stories on why someone might hate you.

Seriously, can you just shut up and play?
