Roger Clemens: The new L.L. Bean

greytough350back.jpgMost of the Yankees had new hats in their lockers today courtesy of Roger Clemens. Let me tell, they were original.

The Clemens “Rocketman” logo is on the front. His autograph was imprinted on the bill. There was a Texas state flag on one side and “K K K K” on the other side in honor of his four sons (Koby, Kory, Kacy and Kody).

It said, “Tough all day” on the back.

So now Clemens has his “Tough all day” t-shirts and a hat. No word on what is next but you bet he has something cooking.

    First thing first. I’m first.

I’m glad that’s four Ks and not three…

These kind of things may seem trivial but I think they do have some impact by further strengthening the bond between the players. ‘Tough all day’ is a good slogan.

  2. mike September 14th, 2007 at 1:39 am

so, what players did not have them? that seems odd to me.

  3. Dr. Acula September 14th, 2007 at 1:40 am

    not to be outdone:

Curt Schilling just distributed his new “Fat All Day” men’s wear.

  4. james September 14th, 2007 at 1:48 am

Dr Acula is your big winner

Boston.com reports Bill belichick is fined $500,000,the pats $250,000,and if they make the playoffs they give up their first round pick.Belichick isn’t suspended any games.

“SNOOP DOGG” got off easy!!!!!! What’s $500k when you make millions?

  6. GS September 14th, 2007 at 1:59 am

Boy is Clemens lucky he had four sons and not three….

  7. Mehdi the Troll killa September 14th, 2007 at 2:17 am

That’s a first round pick if they make the playoffs which they will, but they’ll still have a first round pick from San Francisco next year anyways. Fines and suspensions won’t matter anymore. The fact is that he apologized and he got fines. Guilty as charged and now there will always be a cloud over him and the team because of what he’s done.

If I was him I’d use this to his advantage and employ the siege mentality to strengthen his team even more.

I don’t wear caps because they give you hat head, but I want the t-shirt.

  9. cc September 14th, 2007 at 2:17 am

why would you or anyone want a hat with symbols for Clemens’s sons? strange. I also don’t get “tough all day”–seems like a rather modest motto. or irrelevant–I don’t care whether they’re tough before or after the game, just during it.

  10. cc September 14th, 2007 at 2:18 am

    crossout above not intentional.

  11. Thomas September 14th, 2007 at 2:35 am

Stop making shirts, no one cares about your dumb sons, just shutup and pitch well.

  12. They Shruted It September 14th, 2007 at 2:38 am

    MENTALLY tough all day.

  13. CMFeng September 14th, 2007 at 5:03 am

I would like to have one of the T-shirt, too.

  14. DesignatedBlogger September 14th, 2007 at 7:01 am

When does the squirrel put out his line of hats and shirts?

Clemens slogan would be more of a rallying point if he was actually winning games.

  15. BryanK September 14th, 2007 at 8:14 am

$500k is a ton of money for anyone, it was a hefty fine, and much deserved.

Clemens is helping win games- by doing things like this.

Back when the Yanks first signed him this season, a lot of people jumped up and down and thought he’d save their pitching situation. But a lot of the calmer heads said sure, he might provide at least one solid starter, but more importantly is what he’ll bring to the clubhouse.

We can all find this corny, or meaningless, or whatever, because we’re not in there. But this is the toughest part of the season, and Roger is basically providing a rallying call to keep the Yanks players going full speed ahead.

For the past 7 years or so, I’ve been disappointed by the lack of passion in the Yanks clubhouse. Just look at 2004- the team just didn’t look like they were fighting for it. So what Clemens is doing is great, because it shows some passion. That’s really what Clemens was brought in for.

All that said, yeah, it’d be nice if Clemens won some more games. Sunday would be a good time to start getting those wins.

Rocket’s influence on the young pitchers in itself is worth the money spent. He’s going to make a great pitching coach someday (soon) and he and Pettitte are like having asst. pitching coaches right now, as well as a great influence on everyone at the very least in terms of work ethic and desire.

  18. Chris NY September 14th, 2007 at 9:06 am

That said, 4 k’s are too close to 3 k’s to put on a shirt or hat… especially with a Texas flag on it.

I might have advised against that part if I were in his camp……..

Pete – Sorry, but Roger Goodell, not Roger Clemens is my hero. Finally a sports Commissioner who knows right from wrong. Let’s hope Selig and Stern take notice.

  20. Mr. Vegas September 14th, 2007 at 9:29 am

I’m a Pats fan, but I can’t say I disagree with the penalties levied by the commish.

What Belechick did really undermines the “product” the NFL is selling. Part of the intrigue of football games is based on anticipating what your opponent will do and planning your own moves accordingly. This is supposed to be the product of sound judgment by the coaching staff exercised in the heat of the competition. It’s one reason why TV cameras keep showing the coaches prowling the sidelines: We can’t tell what the coaches are thinking, but we know they’re playing a chess match against the other team’s staff.

Using prohibited means of intercepting another team’s communications undermines this aspect of the game. As a viewer, if you think the coaches KNOW what the other team is going to do, the game becomes less interesting and starts to seem phony. So Belechick’s actions undermine the game as a whole.

Even if other teams engage in similar misconduct, they apparently haven’t done so in such an egregious and repeated fashion as to force the commissioner to make it a matter of general knowledge among the viewing public.

I absolutely love Roger Clemens, but I wonder if some kind of K4 or something in that regard might have been a little more appropriate, but who am I to question the ROCKET!!! Being from the South, you can’t help but to “go there” when you see K’s together like that.

For $28 million pro rated, those hats and tees seem kind of chintzy. How about rolexes for all who earn less than $2 million per season and rhinestone jockstraps for everyone else?

  23. saucy September 14th, 2007 at 11:01 am

“Finally a sports Commissioner who knows right from wrong. Let’s hope Selig and Stern take notice.”

meanwhile, the penalty for steroids in the NFL is missing 4 games?

    that’s a joke

  24. saucy September 14th, 2007 at 11:02 am

haha, i’d love a ‘tough all day’ rolex…

  25. Sherri September 14th, 2007 at 11:06 am

Debbie likes to bedazzle stuff – have you seen their website?
