I am a stat guy - but Igawa, Ramierez, Bruney, karstens do not have major league heads, major league stuff or control

Sit middle in fastball you'll get it from three of them if they don't walk you first

-- sit change up and you'll get several, just be patient -- Anwar's fastball is so flat that I see you can sit Change and be late FB and still be on the picth foul it off or to Oppo filed -- MLB ers will adjust - have adjusted the film is now there for all to see - Anwar needs another picth

Jim Kaat and Maddox are right - and especially with a 5 run lead -- stya low outside corner and they can't get enough hits to overcome that deficit -- but if you can't throw strikes the balls not in play (BBs)are killers

But that wasn't the only issue the Yanks got 12 hits unfortunatley there were only four guys jitting -- if Arod had flied out in that GS AB -- the Yankes would have had two runs against that se of pitchers --

Standing,

I guess my reply to you is stuck in the spam filter.

No, I didn't see the graphic.

But, I do know that we're shuffling starters like we were in the beginning of the season, the bullpen ERA minus Mo/Jo is astronomical in the last 2 weeks, and the offense sometimes tightens up. Deja vu.

But, I still believe.

As for your bet, I'd really like to win rather than back in. You're right about Santana who is just a tad worse this year than last. Lots of homeruns this year.

you can agree or disagree with this theory : (it’s hard to quantify) but the reason torre/guidry/cash might be using some of the back end guys tonight is to see them pitch in a game that means something. once they clinch, it’s a moot point. i often think the psychological aspect of baseball is overrated by the columnists, but tonight’s game can approximate some of the postseason pressure, and with only 1 gm to clinch, they’ve got some games to play with.
i’d rather they’d have gone for the jugular tonight, but i also want to give the yanks braintrust the benefit of the doubt."

I thought the same thing. Throw in a 5 game lead over Detroit and maybe Joe figured it was a good opportunity to see how some of these guys pitch w/ something on the line. Once they've clinched, that "stage" disappears for the remaining regular season. I'm not a Torre apologist BTW.

Too much panicking on this board. 1 game to win with 5 left against TB and Baltimore--really quite doable. Breathe deep, everyone!

Well im off to bed, this board is great for venting minor things.

Before I go does anyone want to take bets that Santana doesn't beat the Tigers tomorrow? He's been bad in September and I believe has already been outpitched by Jurrjens once this year. Sad but I have no faith in him or that Twins offense to help us out tomorrow. I really hope we do it tomorrow because we get Kazmir on Thursday and I don't want our season to come down to the Orioles series.

Also the yankees biggest problem isn't the bullpen, its their inability to win close games on the road. That may hurt come playoff time, gotta get over that.

This board gets worse by the day...what's needed is not registration, but an IQ test.

I see folks asking why Igawa didn't stay in...that you can't succeed on two pitches (um, there's a reliever in San Diego who seems to have done well with the same repertoire...he just doesn't pitch 1-0, 2-0 behind the batter all the bloody time)...asking why Edwar is in when months ago when they were lambasting, and I mean LAMBASTING Torre for letting Edwar sit on the bench...and saying Villone should've stayed in when they probably killed him on this board when Villone was on his run fairy run in August... The Yanks had a 5 run lead, it was the 6th inning, it's not Torre's fault that his relievers can't throw strikes.

I get it...if you let the posters on this board manage, Joba, LViz (who isn't exactly reliable nowadays) and Mo would be trotted out every night until their arms get Quantrill'ed/Proctor'ed off, and Villone would pitch all the time in key situations.

Show me one "stat geek" who would love Bruney's 1.62 whip, and 39:37 k:bb...or Edwar's 1.76 whip and 8.38 ERA... Come on Pete, be reasonable!!

RSM,

I could be wrong, but I think it was the "stat geeks" who hated Cairo because he hit .220 and his OPS was under .700. But to me, a bench players stats mean nothing. Thats why Iam not riding Betemit for hitting .220, because he has pop and can still be dangerous off the bench. I love guys who can do a little of everything, and that was Cairo. He could bunt, steal a bag, hit and run. He just couldn't hit for pop.

I guess the Cairo haters are the same guys who love Edwar and Bruney, lol.

But again I will add I like Betemit, I just need to see him make more contact.

StandingO'neill:

I completely agree. Cairo sorta took over the Luis Sojo role. Not a big star, but always gave 100% and usually came through in the clutch.

For some reason Torre just does not like Villone. I do not know why. Villone, Olendorf and tonight Veras have been the only people out of that clown bullpen that have gotten people out when asked to do so. Why couldnt Villone start the 6th inning he doesnt just get lefties out?? He said we have to get Ramirez mechanically fixed?? Huh..how are you going to fix a straight fastball...? Also he should know better then to bring Bruney king of walks into an inning with men on base or into a game at all. When you do that you are asking to lose the game. I would like to see more of Olendorf.
