Meet the new Boss?
The Yankee announced today that Hal Steinbrenner was elected chairman of the board of Yankee Global Enterprises, LLC.
What does this mean for you, a fan of the team?
That was the job held by Steve Swindal, who was George Steinbrenner’s designated successor before he was was sued for divorce in the spring by Big Stein’s daughter and drummed out of the organization. This move likely indicates that Hal Steinbrenner is first in line to replace his father as principal owner.
“I am very honored to be elected Chairman of Yankee Global Enterprises LLC,” Hal Steinbrenner said in a statement released by the team. “There are many exciting ventures that we’re considering, and I look forward to working hard to bring about success for our organization and for all Yankee fans.”

So how is Joe Malloy doing these days?
Interesting note on Hal…after reading the NY Times article on both Hal and Hank awhile back…I didn’t think either one of them wanted to run the Yankees. Steve Swindal really blew it.
Did Hal beat out Carl Pavano?
Shallow Hal wants a Gal.
What does this mean for you, a fan of the team?
Does it mean anything?
Anyone? Bueller? SJ44?
Hmm interesting..
this is a huge win for Cash
this is a huge win for Cash
why?
yea y? I want George! I want George!
here is an interesting article on the subject…
http://www.nydailynews.com/spo....._king.html
i really couldn’t care less about the ownership situation right now. i’m so pumped about this team, and getting ready for the playoffs.
george who? hal who?
as long as joba is ready and the guys are hitting, i’m thrilled
In other words, Steve Swindal, you REALLY messed up. Imagine having a chance to own the greatest franchise in all of sports. Then imagine that chance being ruined because of your own foolish decisions. It must stink to be Steve right now. It’s neat that George Steinbrenner can pass the team down to his sons, just like any family business.
As long as he lets Cashman keep doing what he’s doing. It’s fine.
Once again the Yankees organization speaks from their lofty perch. Hey Hal you just got a free new stadium -how about making your statement before the N.Y. press at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan considering that? It’s like they take taxpayer and bond money and don’t show their faces anymore as if they were kings. George, too. Show your faces.
And what’s with this playoff ticket lottery bul lshit? How about this: the non-season ticket holders who bought the most tickets to Yankee home games via credit card get first dibs?!! If I attend 45 games, spend all that money on tickets, hot dogs, drinks, etc. I should be able to purchase tickets before some jer koff who attended 0 to 2 games, typed his name into a computer, and was lucky enough to be chosen to purchase tickets.
The Yanks could set a minimum amount of non-season tickets one has to buy to get first dibs. I think 27 games is a solid number cuz that’s a third of all home games and a game attended per usual-length series (3 games).
Same as the old Boss?
Hal looks like Tom Cruise.
It doesn’t really mean anything. When Swindal left, the Boss just had to change the ‘estate planning’. While he is still alive, nothing will change, nothing.
I’m actually dating Steinbrenner’s daughter now, so look for me to be owning the team in about 2 years.
Dont look now, but the check out who has the best numbers in sept:
Mussina: 1.93ERA(3-0) 2.60 K/BB
Hughes: 2.73ERA(3-0) 1.80 K/BB
Wanger: 3.27ERA(3-1) 1.29 K/BB
Pet: 4.45ERA(2-2) 2.33 K/BB
Clemens: 4.50ERA(0-1) 1.50 K/BB
So for all those Hughes bashers out there, you know who you are. Eat it
Jeremy- That song popped in my head also 2 funny. Really though does anyone know what this means 4 Yanks future? I’ve never heard anything about the guy.
Pet? don’t know how to spell his name? lol
buy anyway… I’m worried about what kind of owner he will be. I hope to hell he’ll let Ca$hMoney do his thing and not decide on a firesale.
damm bosco beat me to it…
those sept pitching numbers are interesting. no need to worry.
Anyone that bashed Hughes this season ie SJ44 should be put on timeout for the rest of the season.
I agree with those saying Hal needs to keep Cash in power. Anyone thinking George is still in control of this team hasn’t been paying attention. He’s barely around because he’s not well. I don’t know if the Hal thing is good or bad. Why didn’t he want ownership until now? Scares me he’ll sell off the team and who knows what that could/would mean? No-one.
Hopefully he’s found a love of his father’s pride and joy (gotten over being second fiddle to a baseball team?) and will realize Cash knows more about it than he…..
Gone are the days of George’s daily hands on / tough approach to his team. All these years he’s been equally as tough on his 2 sons but as age has slowed “The Boss” down, he’s mellowed with them to the point of hoping they would see their way to take charge in a gradual way and it’s happening.
Shudder to think there could be no interest at all from Hal or brother Hank to continue the Yankee tradition and decide to get out altogether and have the likes of a James Dolan take the proudest franchise in all of sports and turn it into a laughingstock like the Knicks.
Bosco,
Great post! LMAO
Hal is a very good decision as successor and his right hand man will be Felix Lopez, they love the new regime Cashman is creating in the minors & young talent also they aren’t as ballastic as George even though we say we love that about George, Hal is a calmer more observe the situation over a time period type of guy, something very important to keep the Yankees franchise stable over the next generation.
Good Luck Hal.
Oh and for people saying this is a James Dolan type of situtation… let me start off by saying I am a suffering Knicks fan, that idiot that runs MSG is a fool !!! a dope !! from the people he hires to the special player priveledges he gives spoiled so-called stars like Stephon Marbury, and the wasted money on building just a playoff team that hasn’t even made it to playoff contention !!!
Hires a hated Knicks killer in Isiah Thomas over John Starks, Mark Jackson, Patrick Ewing. heck even Clyde Frazier to build the Knicks future. The only reason the NY Rangers are ok is because of an NHL lockout and Dolan didn’t lift a finger to deal w/ them. Thank god Sather grew a brain built a future and a competitive Rangers team, as for the Knicks and watelse is going on in MSG that is A DAMN DISGRACE !!!
