Breaking news: Matsui to have knee drained

Hideki Matsui is headed back to New York tonight and tomorrow will have his right knee drained of some fluid that has built up in recent days.

Joe Torre said the procedure would not keep him out of the lineup, although this means he will be the DH and Johnny Damon would start in left field.

I think Damon would be in Left anyway.

Matsui is a tough cookie, he will be fine.

good he’s a horrible route taker in LF anyway.

  5. Bat Abreu cleanup tomorrow September 29th, 2007 at 11:32 pm

How about Damon (LF)/ Jeter/ A-Rod/ Abreu/ Posada/ Giambi (DH) Cano/ Mientkiewicz/ Cabrera tomorrow? That way Abreu has a better chance at collecting his 100th RBI. If Damon or Jeter gets on base to lead off an inning, A-Rod could get a hit pushing whoever to 3B, man on 3B and one out for Abreu. If he collects an RBI double, he’s on 2B with one out. If Damon and Jeter get on base to lead off an inning, A-Rod could sacrifice bunt them to 2B and 3B for men there and out out for Abreu. It just seems like Abreu barely gets a chance to drive in any runs although he had his chance tonight with the 10-run inning. He had a good chance but Jeter drove in men on 2B and 3B Friday night. If Damon and Jeter make outs to lead off a game or an inning, Abreu pretty much loses a chance to drive in a run unless he hits a homerun which doesn’t happen very often.

Also Jeter would be protected by A-Rod, Abreu by Posada. Yeah Baltimore could pitch around A-Rod to get to Abreu but Abreu will see good pitches since Posada’s protecting him.

Most importantly, Abreu needs to get back on track driving in runs in general nevermind just his 100th RBI.

i’ve had my knee drained, big freakin needle!!! why would he DH over Giambi? If you can get it thru Giambi’s head that he can’t make doubles out of hits to right field, then we may be able to use him.

Damon is the better left fielder, so this isn’t bad news at all.

to Jeters future wife…. HAVE YOU EVEN WATCHED THE YANKEES THIS SEASON ??????? MATSUI HAS 25 homers and 100 plus rbi’s… Jason “FATMANBINO” giambi is a mere shadow of his former self… idiot

I guess we have to start Giambi at 1st then.

Matsui should not be playing LF over Damon anyway…Damon is much better and covers alot more ground out there. If Matsui is not healthy for game 1 against the lefty then I would let Duncan DH. Giambi looks absolutely awful and the Yanks need another righty in the lineup, they have way too many lefties. Lefties are only hitting .203 against Sabathia vs .275 right handed. Plus Matsui has looked really bad at the plate probably because of the knee. He is pulling off of every pitch and that is not good. They have had problems hitting lefties all season and they need all the righties in the lineup they can get. Giambi should be a bench player in every game because his bat is not better then anyone else that he would be playing over.

    tterba…You’re Right, sorta!

…Matsui has an extremely quiet 100 rbi’s, n’est pas? I mean, I have watched most of their games this season and I don’t remember that many game-turning hits by Hideki. He is pulling off because he’s injured, and even though he is playing through it and getting hits occasionally, there is not much power there, whereas it seems that Giambi and Duncan are healthy.

I hope that most of the Japanese viewers realize that he is injured. Period. Fielder in for Martinez…Strawberry in for O’Neil…if y’all get my drift.

To bt: “I don’t remember that many game-turning hits by Hideki.”

Matsui carried the team in July, and was hitting .340+ in August , though he hit only two HRs.
