Any idea which pitchers will be lined up for them?

And who will tomorrows manager be?

  2. '07 Gabriel ( #27 in '07 ) September 29th, 2007 at 11:11 pm

…OR…, bring Wang back on only 1 day short rest and Andy is set up to pitch a game 5 if needed on regular rest. I’m just sayin’…

  3. Jonas September 29th, 2007 at 11:13 pm

id imagine it has to be wang v. sabathia, pettite v. carmona, clemens (if healthy) v. westbrook, mussina/hughes v. byrd, and then wang again versus sabathia…my guess is that posada will manage tomorrow, due to the fact that he will prob get a the day game after a night game off. most of the big guys will prob start to get them back into a rhythm before the next few days off.

  4. Global Warming September 29th, 2007 at 11:16 pm

Ugh I was hoping we got the 8 day series, oh well.

Having Wang start two Road Games is not ideal. I’d rather Pettitte be in a must win Game 5 on the road than Wang.

  5. Bob September 29th, 2007 at 11:18 pm

Any idea what the time will be on Thurs?

I really hope it’s not a day game.

  6. JJ(the real one) September 29th, 2007 at 11:19 pm

    this is better for us!
    Westbrook/Byrd
    Fresh meat for the grinder!

  7. philly September 29th, 2007 at 11:19 pm

Any news about first pitch times? Next Sunday noticed there are 4 games scheduled. Just wondering what time the Yanks will be playing at home.

  8. Bob September 29th, 2007 at 11:20 pm

I would think it would be a night game on Thurs. Yanks would give them the best primetime ratings I’d imagine.

  9. pat September 29th, 2007 at 11:22 pm

Next Sunday is also Giants/Jets at 1pm so I would guess they would try to avoid the NFL competition and it would be a 4pm or 7pm start time

  10. Titan September 29th, 2007 at 11:22 pm

Totally good news for the Yankees.
Not to face CC and Carmona twice in a short series was the best scenario possible.
But still, there has to be good pitching by the Yankees to go deep in the postseason.

  11. pat September 29th, 2007 at 11:24 pm

Ratings should be good this year, NY market (possibly 2 teams), Boston market, LA market and Chicago market all represented. Night games will be a tough call.

  12. pat September 29th, 2007 at 11:28 pm

This amused me. Cleveland manager Eric Wedge played with Roger Clemens. Talk about a career that has spanned a generation.

  13. mike f September 29th, 2007 at 11:35 pm

it’s a night game thursday in TBS

  14. jennifer 27 in 07 September 29th, 2007 at 11:36 pm

I don’t even know what channel tbs is. LOL Anyone know who is broadcasting the games? They can’t be any worse than the idiots on espn can they?

  15. Bob September 29th, 2007 at 11:37 pm

mike f, how do you know it’s a night game? Or are you just guessing?

  16. Brandon September 29th, 2007 at 11:41 pm

fans here need to calm the hell down this series is not a layup, Sabathia and Carmona are damn good. Just like Peralta said the Dominican Republic is watching this game alot of latin countries and players like Martinez,Sabathia, Cabrera, and Peralta are going to be jacked up to play this game.

We need to approach this carefully Wang wants to pitch game one that is a good thing , plus I think he gets 7 – 8 days of rest before game 1 so this also favors Wang. Sabathia will be tough our RHBs need to come through w/ some xtra basehits and the lefties need to work the count.

  17. Dave K September 29th, 2007 at 11:42 pm

I have tickets for Sunday’s game and I’m hoping it is a 1:00 or 4:00 start since I have work early Monday in Philadelphia.

It shouldn’t be the 8:00 I figure if there are also 2 games that day on the west coast.

  18. mike f September 29th, 2007 at 11:42 pm

because i looked ahead on my DVR and the AL game is thursday night. with two NL games preceding it. all on TBS

  19. gayle September 29th, 2007 at 11:43 pm

Jennifer here are their broadcaster. I have little faith with the below names. It is really hard i believe when they have not covered the team in any way shape or form during the regular season so really do not know all of the nuances with the team. it is a real disservice I believe to the fans who are probably more knowledgable about the team then the analysts. In addition with the exception of the BoSox guy they dont even cover teh American League

TBS will announce that its game analysts will include Steve Stone, who has worked at WGN and ESPN and won the 1980 AL Cy Young Award, and Bob Brenly, at WGN after calling games for Fox in 2004 and managing the Arizona Diamondbacks to a World Series win in 2001. They’ll join previously announced Joe Simpson, a longtime TBS Atlanta Braves analyst, and Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn.

Also joining: Play-by-play announcers Ted Robinson, an ex-San Francisco Giants and New York Mets announcer, Don Orsillo, who calls Boston Red Sox telecasts, and Dick Stockton, who calls NFL games for Fox and NBA games for TNT. They join Chip Caray, who’ll work with Gwynn, the only pairing TBS has revealed.

  20. Jeter's future wife September 29th, 2007 at 11:44 pm

TBS is the Atlanta station that Ted Turner owns

  21. gayle September 29th, 2007 at 11:45 pm

The timing for SUnday will be very interesting especially if the Mets make it I think MLB will not want to put either game up against the Jets/Giants game so would make for later starts one at 4 and one at 8 perhaps.

  22. mike f September 29th, 2007 at 11:45 pm

it’s terrible that a 3rd rate network like TBS got the broadcast rights. MLB should be ashamed. they don’t even have a HiDef channel

  23. gayle September 29th, 2007 at 11:47 pm

MIke I heard today that if you have dfirect TV they are adduing TBS they are adding high def this week but for those of us on regyular time warner high def we are out of luck. But really it all comes down to money they paid the most so they got the deal

  24. Dave K September 29th, 2007 at 11:47 pm

Gayle – but if lets say SD gets Wild Card and Boston is in Anaheim that day.. I can’t imagine the last game time-wise being on the East Coast

I’m really saying this all hoping to get home at a reasonable hour

  25. pat September 29th, 2007 at 11:47 pm

3:30, 7 and 10:30 seem to be the start times for TBS games. The TBS website doesn’t say who plays when.

  26. Jeter's future wife September 29th, 2007 at 11:48 pm

why wouldn’t ESPN grab these games? I’m sure FOX has the weekend covered, but what happened to ESPN on the others in the bidding? guess they weren’t high bidder!

  27. jennifer 27 in 07 September 29th, 2007 at 11:48 pm

Actually espn should be ashamed. Don’t be surprised if they lose all rights to MLB games. Their relationship has gone down hill.

  28. jennifer 27 in 07 September 29th, 2007 at 11:49 pm

Better hope we have the 7pm start. 3:30 will make for a very bad sunfield. We can at least figure out that the 10:30 time will be the west coast game.

  29. mike f September 29th, 2007 at 11:49 pm

thanks gayle, unfortunately for me, no DirecTV. regular cable.
as usual MLB puts cash ahead of fans. only a small % of people have DirecTV
as opposed to cable so we, the majority lose out and have to watch it on crappy non HiDef

  30. gayle September 29th, 2007 at 11:50 pm

Mike also Cablevision is adding it as well see below

Cablevision Systems Corp. today announced that it had reached agreement to add TBS HD to its high-definition line-up early next week, before the start of the Major League Baseball Divisional Playoffs, which will be carried by TBS, starting on Wednesday

  31. Jeter's future wife September 29th, 2007 at 11:51 pm

TBS has Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn announcing for them, among others.

    http://www.tbs.com/sports/mlb/

  32. gayle September 29th, 2007 at 11:53 pm

Mike just found that Tuime Warner also is adding. Thought the last line was pretty funny

Time Warner of New York/New Jersey just made it official, adding TBS in HD as of Oct. 1, thus ensuring Yankees fans they will see their team in HD throughout the playoffs if they have the right equipment.

Time Warner can’t guarantee that anyone will see the Mets in any kind of format next week.

  33. mike f September 29th, 2007 at 11:53 pm

i think i’ll call my cable company and ask about that, thanks!

  34. pat September 29th, 2007 at 11:53 pm

5:30 and 9 start times Saturday and Noon, 3:30 and 7 start times Sunday. I thought watching football at 10am on the West Coast was weird when I was out there. Now it’s baseball at 9am with your cornflakes.

  35. Jeter's future wife September 29th, 2007 at 11:54 pm

I love Cal! I’m sure he’ll do a great job. there were more people in attendance at Cooperstown earlier this summer for Cal’s induction to the HOF than ever before

  36. Jeter's future wife September 29th, 2007 at 11:55 pm

hmmm, anyone know if Comcast is carrying it in HD?

  37. Jeter's future wife September 29th, 2007 at 11:58 pm

yeap, Comcast has HD TBS….we usually have it for regular stuff, but they will have in HD next week….gosh we are so spoiled!

  38. Ashley September 29th, 2007 at 11:58 pm

    Hey guys,

Posada is going to be manager tomorrow and Moose is going to be the pitching coach. Heard it on post game.

  39. YankeeJosh September 29th, 2007 at 11:59 pm

I read in one of the local papers that TBS’s A team is calling the Yankees series. That’s Chip Caray and Tony Gwynn.

  40. pat September 30th, 2007 at 12:00 am

    Hip HIP JORGE!!

  42. pat September 30th, 2007 at 12:03 am

They might make me miss Michael Kay. Fans usually know more about their team than national broadcasters, especially those not doing games all year, so some of the comments they make are gloing to make you cringe

  43. Sherri September 30th, 2007 at 12:03 am

So does that mean Mussina has to adhere to Joba rules? :) (just kidding) Just thinking about he was opposed to them…

  44. Dr. Acula September 30th, 2007 at 12:05 am

    HD?

you spoiled pups. Why when I was a kid, all we had was tin-cans and string! And it was a B&W tin-can, too :(

  45. Dr. Acula September 30th, 2007 at 12:10 am

    Sherri-

you know that’s why Boston took the 8-day-schedule. They’re trying to limit Jaba’s apperances by placing us into 7-day schedule.

They SO don’t wanna face us!!!

    *FEAR Da’ EMPIRE, Boston, FEAR!!*

  46. jennifer 27 in 07 September 30th, 2007 at 12:11 am

Mike is going to pitch him the entire game. LOL

Seriously. He gives the pc and manager guidlines they need to follow, so I don’t know how much they really manage. Would be funny to watch the pregame, it won’t be the joe torre report, it will be the Jorge Posada report. Future job??

  47. jennifer 27 in 07 September 30th, 2007 at 12:13 am

Hey Dr. I was wondering if you know where I can find old back pages of the NY papers. I want to find ones where they declare the Mets kings of NY. I’m expecting to be able to exact revenge for what was done to me in 2004.

  48. Sherri September 30th, 2007 at 12:15 am

    Dr. A – You know it!! :)

Jennifer – Awwww…that’s no fun! Let them have free reign! Make this interesting! I would seriously like to see what Moose would do, as intelligent as he is. I also agree with giving Posada the manager position. Good call!!

  49. james September 30th, 2007 at 12:16 am

What i didn’t realize about the tbs deal was that they weren’t doing a game until the playoffs, I hope there is not going to be a lot of technical difficulties like what we saw with the yes network and sny roll outs and i’m sure the announcers having not worked together will be excellent as well.

  50. CMFeng - 27 in 07 September 30th, 2007 at 12:17 am

    Let’s Go Yankees!!

  51. Dr. Acula September 30th, 2007 at 12:17 am

    sure, Jen.

    Let me look it up.

    I be back in 10.

  52. pat September 30th, 2007 at 12:19 am

TBS does Braves games so they do have some experience with baseball.

  53. jennifer 27 in 07 September 30th, 2007 at 12:19 am

Cool thanks. Hopefully the Phillies win tomorrow and I’ll be able to do this.

  54. gayle September 30th, 2007 at 12:26 am

If I recall wasnt Moose the pitching coach either last year ot he year before. Or maybe he was manager I remember he walked to the mound to do something lol.

I would imagine that Joba based on pitch count would be available probably for all games BUT game 3.

  55. Andrea September 30th, 2007 at 12:33 am

I doubt Boston chose their postseason schedule based entirely on what is good or bad for the Yankees.

  56. Marc September 30th, 2007 at 12:39 am

After looking through the schedule for Thursday night, I believe we will get the 7 oclock time slot if the Padres or Rockies win the wild card. If the padres win the wild card, that would mean the DBacks would face the Cubs, and the NLEast winner would face the Padres/Rockies. That means the Cubs would play at 1030, and the Mets or Phillies would be at 330. LETS GO PADRES!

  57. J-Dawg--Veintisiete en '07 September 30th, 2007 at 12:40 am

It’s going to feel so strange to watch a game on TBS without the Braves playing in it. I’m not sure what to think about TBS airing all of the games. I guess that it’s no big deal who airs them, but it’s just weird to me. It would have been neat if the network would have let Skip Caray and Pete Van Wieren be one of the crews for olde time’s sake, but they won’t be there.

  58. kim September 30th, 2007 at 12:42 am

even though the yanks won the season series vs cleveland 6-0, on espn’s baseball tonight the only highlights they showed while talking about the postseason match-up was cleveland’s hitters hitting the ball and yankee hitters striking out….more reason to not like espn.

there’s also another a quicker way to bring up the Post

    http://nypost.newspaperdirect......iewer.aspx

type in “mets” in the “search” box at the very top, then move your cursor over the “Search” button to select your date range and it will bring up everything. The only draw back is it’s a pay site, but you can get a day pass or a low rate for a month.

If anybody was watching the Marlins-Mets game, what set off Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo? He was going absolutely ballistic. The Mets may have dug themselves a hole. The Marlins will be fired up and Dontrelle Willis usually handles the Mets well. Willis versus Glavine.

It will be interesting how Wang approaches the Indians. This is his first matchup against them this year. I know that his road ERA is substantially worse than his ERA at home, but in a best of 5 series, when you have a chance to pitch your ace twice, you do it. I have good vibes for Wang against that lineup. If you look back at Wang’s starts against the Indians in ’05 and ’06, you’ll notice that the Indian who normally troubled him the most was…. Aaron Boone, and he’s no longer there, of course.

  65. Vinny 5743 September 30th, 2007 at 1:26 am

I say we take them in 4 games. Then we go at the Sox.

  66. Darrin September 30th, 2007 at 3:01 am

Frankly, I’m shocked that Boston chose the longer 8 day series.

I’m not sure if the Yankees will beat the Indians, but I’m glad they have the 7 days series. Not necessarily because of the pitching matchups, but because it’s better in baseball to have a flow going. The 8 day series is too herky-jerky (way too many off-days).

It does present Joe with an interesting scenario if the series goes 5 games. He can pitch Wang in Game 5 on extra rest or Andy on normal rest. Seems like a no-brainer to pitch Wang, but there is no pitcher that Torre trusts more than Pettitte, and I can’t see Joe allowing the team to go down in flames in a game 5 with Andy sitting on the bench.

(Or as someone upthread suggested, pitch Wang in Game 4 on short rest and Pettitte in Game 5 on normal rest.)

Finally, I’m sure this has been discussed before, but how about this statistic regarding the Yankees history in the ALDS –

Since 1995, the Yankees have appeared in EVERY ALDS contested (12 times):

7 times they have WON Game 1; 5 times they have LOST Game 1.
Incredibly, their record in the series’ where they win game 1 is a dismal 2-5. On the other hand, when they lose game 1 they are undeafeated (5-0). This statistic makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but has perfectly followed form EVERY single season since 2000!

Should we root for Cleveland in Game 1?

  67. Chris September 30th, 2007 at 3:33 am

    Torre should really consider this:

    Pettite: Game 1
    Clemens: Game 2
    Wang: Game 3
    Hughes: Game 4
    Pettite: Game 5

In Cleveland, Wang is not going to get the soaked tall grass he does get at yankee stadium. Hes a much better pitcher at home than on the road. I would much rather love to see Wang pitch 1 game at home than 2 on the road.

My second scenario, which would have been logical if Torre had common sense, would be to lineup the rotation like this:

    Pettite vs Sabathia
    Wang vs Carmona
    Clemens vs Westbrook
    Hughes vs Byrd

The fact is, you start wang vs Carmona because the Indians will water down and soak the grass for their sinker baller, and Wang could have used that to his advantage as well. Torre needs to think logically and start Pettite against Sabathia.

  68. Shirley September 30th, 2007 at 8:43 am

“Should we root for Cleveland in Game 1?”
    Is this a joke?

  69. Mike S. September 30th, 2007 at 9:02 am

Chris: Wang will have a lot of days off so as it is. Saving him for 3 would really be counterproductive as you don’t want Wang too strong. Having Wang come back in Game 4 on 3 days rest wouldn’t be too bad of an idea. With the off day before Game 5 (unlike in previous years) Pettitte can go in 2 and then come back in 5 on normal rest.

As for Andy, it is very easy to see why Andy is going in Game 2. Just look at how many times Andy has won a Game 2 after the Yanks lost Game 1. He did it all 3 times in 2003.

  70. Master Shake September 30th, 2007 at 8:57 pm

Is Clemens going to be healthy enough to pitch in this series? Also, I’d go with Hughes over Mussina in game 4, assuming Clemens actually pitches game 3.

  71. chris in fairfield October 1st, 2007 at 8:40 am

ther’s no way in heck that phil hughes will pitch over mike mussina . its not the torre way .

  72. Anders October 2nd, 2007 at 1:49 am

Anybody going to be in Cleveland for the first two games? Some buds and I are road-tripping from our college in NC…we’re looking for some fans to hang out with.

Any suggestions on where we can hang out?
