Torre sets playoff rotation; Wang in Game 1

Game 1: Chien-Ming Wang

Game 2: Andy Pettitte

Game 3: Roger Clemens

A few of us waited down on the field until the end of batting practice to get a reaction from Wang.

“I’m happy,” the right-hander said. “Everybody on this team works hard and anybody could be it.”

Wang has not faced Cleveland this season. I asked him what he thought of the Indians.

“They have a good team,” he said. “But the Yankees are better.”

According to my inside sources, Shelley Duncan said, “Cleveland has a good team. But, the Red Sox suck.” ;)

Hey, with Chien-Ming what can go Wang !!

  3. Kev September 29th, 2007 at 6:49 pm

Any idea the pitching rotation for the Indians?

    Wang vs Clev in 2006:

    Games…2

    Inn….12 2/3

    ERA….3.55

    Ks…..5

    BB…..3

    W/L….1-1

We only have to wait if we are going to play the long or the short series.
In the long series we would not need the Moose to pitch, but I think Cleveland has an advantage on the long series.

I am pretty sure Cleveland rotation would be:
    1) CC
    2) Carmona
    3) Westbrook

The Wanger has a great attitude as always. He has earned this and I know he will do the team proud. Go CMW!!!

why in the hell did Giambi think he could get a double against Markakis? ridiculous!

alright, Andy – get a little tune up here! great game 2 pitcher! if we lose game 1, PETTITTE

If the offense is clicking and our 3 pitchers just pitch good ( not great ) …we have a very good chance of sweeping the Indians and finishing the year 9-0 against the team with likely the best record in the American League.

Whoa -not a smart thing to say by Wang. First off he’s wrong, the Indians are better by virtue of winning their division, having a better record than the Yanks, having home-field advantage over the Yanks in the A.L.D.S., and having a chance to choose how long the series should be (7 or 8 days). Second, he just provided bulletin board material for Cleveland. Last, he should shut up considering he flopped against Beckett at Fenway his last regular season start thus could flop vs. another ace C.C. Sabathia at Jacobs Field if he doesn’t get back on track esp. with the extended rest. Cleveland is the most dangerous team of the four because they’re the darkhorse with nothing to lose.

just got back from dinner…anyone worried about this outing for Pettitte?

  13. Darrin September 29th, 2007 at 9:18 pm

Why would Wang say that publicly? Stupid. Unfortunately, that kind of crap tends to come back and bite you on the butt. Look for Cleveland to light Wang up in Game 1. Which is not necessarily a bad thing because as everyone knows: when the Yanks lose Game 1, they generally win the series.

Everyone Knows We have the best team, Let the Wanger say what he wants

  15. Darrin September 29th, 2007 at 9:26 pm

Sure he’s entitled to say what he wants. But as I wrote, players who say these kind of things always end up regretting it.

Shouldn’t a ballplayer believed their team is better before they take the mount?? Don’t take Wang’s comment out of context. Wang is the ACE and let’s root for him.

  17. Nakamura September 29th, 2007 at 11:04 pm

    Better Choice

    to Don’t give Cleveland ammo

You should shut up considering Yankees won’t even make the playoffs without Wang’s 19 wins. When Wang one-hitted Red Sox surely you only talked about Chamberlain’s ejection.

  19. Baseball King September 30th, 2007 at 12:01 am

Pettitte gave up 9 runs in 5 innings. Clemens’ condition is uncertain.

If you are a true Yankee Fan, not a Boston Fan faking as a Yankee fan trying to derail Yankees’ morale, you will stand behind Wang and support him all the way.

Wang believes that Yankee is the best, so do all the Yankee fans. Only a fake Yankee fan would think that Cleveland is better than the Yankees just because they have a better record.

Based on his Major League best 38 wins in the last two seasons, Wang is the key to Yankees’ 27th World Championship. Can’t argue against facts and results.

    Go Yankees! Go CMW!

  21. Please September 30th, 2007 at 11:30 am

    to Darrin
I don’t see anything wrong with Wang’s answer. Souldn’t a Game 1 pitcher believed his team? It’s ridiculous! And I don’t think Wang was trying to insult his opponents or saying something intentionally.(could you belive a humble guy such as Wang would say something like that? ) It’s Just SOME CONFIDENCE. I don’t think a Game 1 pitcher sould think negatively LIKE YOU DID since you’ve already “Look for Cleveland to light Wang up,” I’m glad it will be Wang and not you to take the mount on Game 1.

    to Don’t give Cleveland ammo
Please Remeber that the post-season is a different world. a better record in regular season doesn’t mean anything. (Check how many wilcard teams have won the WS in last 10 year and you will see what I’m talking about.)

    Go Yankees! Go CMW!

  22. jaffa October 1st, 2007 at 12:28 am

Calm Down. Wang is not and will not turn into Terrel Owens.

  23. NYY October 4th, 2007 at 2:25 pm

So he should have said this instead? (Roll Eye)

“Yankees have a good team,” he said. “But the Indians are better.”
