The LoHud Yankees Blog

A New York Yankees blog by Sam Borden, Chad Jennings and the staff of The Journal News

Coming up this week

Peter Abraham
September
30

Now that the regular season is over, the blog will obviously shift focus a little.

The Yankees don’t play again until Thursday. But we’ll keep you updated on any news. There will be press conferences at Jacobs Field on Wednesday and the plan is upload all of them to the blog as soon as possible.

Once Thursday rolls around, there will be updates all day along with pre-game and post-game audio.

A look at the schedule this week:

Monday: Roger Clemens is scheduled to throw a simulated game in Tampa. The rest of the team has the day off.

Tuesday: The Yankees are working out at the Stadium. This is closed to the public. But we will provide reports here. I’ll be heading to Cleveland during the day.

Wednesday: The Yankees have a 3:30 p.m. workout at Jacobs Field.

Thursday: Yankees vs. Indians, Game 1. Time TBA.

As always, thanks for reading.

It’s gonna be a long week! Though, the plus side is that I can go to sleep at normal hours…

    Is it Thursday yet? :-D

  2. JZ

    great info, as always
    Thnx

  3. Bob

Pete, any idea what game time on Thurs. might be yet? Or do we have to wait until after the SD/Col game tomorrow for them to set it?

  4. Global Warming

Have the playoff rosters been set yet?

  5. paul long island

i dont know if someone slipped something into my coke while i was at camden yards, BUT is anyone else with me rooting for the red sox this week? before the glass bottles come flying at my head, hear me out. I WANT BOSTON. i want nothing more than us to kick their butts one more time. for this to happen, we need the angels to choke. so, for the time being, i will be a red sox fan. ….that is until october 10th.

  6. Andrea

Paul: we don’t want the Angels to choke. We want them to fight til the end!

  7. Bob

sorry paul, it is impossible for me to root for the Red Sox. We may actually be better off facing them so if they win, they win. But, especially if the Yanks lose to Cleveland, I sure don’t want Boston going any further either.

No way you can root for them.

  8. CATYA

Paul, you may Root for “Bawston” to win without calling yourself a fan, that’s profane man!!!!

  9. Marc from Portland Maine

Hey, I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t like to see the sox meet the Yankees for the ALCS. I think that would be the greatest redemption the Yankees could get.

  10. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz ate my hamburger (aka Joe)

I have tickets for Game 4 on Monday. When will the time be announced?

  11. Sherri

Thanks, Pete! I wish Clemens well, and hope to see him on the mound soon (as long as he’s ready)! :) Thursday won’t get here fast enough for me!!!

  12. Andrea

Clay: Never! they want us to suffer.

  13. Doug Niman

Why is there even a question as to starting times?

Scrolling ahead on my DirecTV guide, it shows a 7:30 PM start time for Game 1 of the ALDS. This seems impossible as that would mean a 10:30 PM start in cleveland.

There is also a game starting at 4 PM PST, but that says it is the NLDS Game 2.

Anyway, I have clearly not helped our situation with this post, but perhaps someone might cull a clue from this.

And cups were raised and there was much rejoicing…

We had a heck of a year and I like where we are at. You know, either way, our hope is that LA and Boston will beat the crap out of each other over the entire 5 game set. We want it to go 5 games and we would like an extra innings game or two as well.

Whoever emerges will hopefully be a little road worn and weary. I think we can take either of them in a 7 game series.

    Happy October everyone!

    Doug

i dont see how you wouldnt want to face boston again. i mean cmon. this is the last time clemens will pitch in the postseason. how sweet would a schilling/clemens matchup be—IN FENWAY. IMO the only way to shut those sawx fans up is to beat them ourselves.

    Hey Pete -

Since there’s only 11 posts, maybe you’ll see this…just wanted to say this is a great blog. I live in Nevada but sometimes following the blog I feel like I’m at the stadium.
I hope you don’t make it too difficult to post. For the most part, the trolls only show up when the race gets tight, and at the end of the season.
All the best, and congrats on creating and nurturing such a great forum.

  16. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

beating Boston is just one of the things we have to do…I’m not sure anyone necessarily looks forward to it, but it’s just one of those things, an unwritten rule like how you don’t bunt to break up the no hitter.

A World Series will go through Boston or New York (and probably both).

Anyway, between Boston and LAA, give me the Sox any time. Not that we can’t beat LA…but we’ve had much more success against Boston

  17. Tim

    Can’t wait for this series.

If Roger isn’t going to be close to or 100%, I rather not start him. We need healthy arms this year, arms that are going to give us innings and keep us in the game.

Can’t wait to see what Arod can do this year. Hope he has a HUGE October.

  18. '07 Gabriel ( #27 in '07 )

This team is primed for the playoffs. You’ll see A-Rod, Clemens and the rest of the team firing on all cylinders. One more ring for the Boss. #27 will be very sweet !

  19. MJL

    Doug -

How do you figure that a 7:30 PM start time means 10:30 PM in Cleveland? Cleveland is in the Eastern Time Zone…

  20. MJL

    Oh I see, you’re Pacific Time…nevermind.

  21. Andrea

Why didn’t anyone tell me Chase Wright pitched today? And how come Chase Wright got to pitch but no Matty DeSalvo? Aw man :(

  22. Andrea

Ok, now that I’m actually watching the encore of it, Chase Wright pitching isn’t good news :(

  23. Andrea

Hey, that wasn’t so bad. Chase Wright isn’t so bad!

I realize I’m just talking to myself now, but I’m ok with that.

BBB must have been beside herself!

  24. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, and David Ortiz ate my hamburger (aka Joe)

    I’m listening to you, Andrea.

  25. Andrea

hahaha. I’m not sure why! I just got excited when I realized Chase Wright got the win and needed to express that excitement.

As much as I usually hate Michael Kay’s stories, I actually liked the one he told about how when Chase Wright went back to the minors, he chose the number 4 because of the 4 home runs involved in the Incident that shall not be named.

  26. CATYA

    Me too andrea

  27. eelz

    thanks for writing!

  28. J-Dawg--Veintisiete en '07

That was a great motivational tool for Wright to use the Number 4 on his jersey. I’m sure that getting past that incident has made him mentally tougher and he knows that things can only get better after that. It would be fantastic if he could be of help to the Yankees in the future. Wright is one of those pitchers worth rooting for, because it takes someone with a lot of heart and tenacity to bounce back from that thing in April.

  29. CATYA

I just visited the mets blogs there’s a lot of hating going on over there. Some of the post sound like the trolls that post on this blog.

I want to meet the Sox in the ALCS too, but let them fight it out to the end before they get there. We don’t want the Angles to choke

  34. coops2001

I’m torn – on one hand it would be grat to face the red sox and beat them in the alcs – on the other hand, it would nice to see them get an ego-deflating quick exit after winning division for the first time after all these years.

Instead, I think I’ll just focus on the indians and hope we can make it through this round without any problems. Their front pitchers look pretty darn good

  35. Vader

It was a great season and it is going to be a better postseason. Who cares about the Sawx or Angels until the ALCS? Like DJ says all the time play the game that night and everything will fall into place.

I’ve said it before this team finally resembles at team and not a collection of talent. You could see that this team is loose by the way everyone was pulling for Abreu to get to 100 RBI. Lets just hope it stays that way come Thursday.

  36. mary ellen

It seems surreal to be getting ready for the playoffs after having to go through the fire all year, but the Yankees are really in it!! I’m so happy for them as a team, because they worked hard every day and never gave up believing they could win it all. I understand some fans want to blow Boston out of the water in the ALCS, but I just can’t imagine rooting the Sox to win any time, any place, ever, never. For me, the satisfaction of them losing in the first round after their fans gloating about being in 1st place all year, supercedes any concern I might have about the Yanks playing the Angels. I believe the Yanks are primed and ready to beat any team they’re up against. GO YANKEES #27!!!!!!!!

  37. DMan

Wow am I ready for post season baseball.

  38. jennifer 27 in 07

Morning everyone. I saw the funniest thing on my way into work. One of the streets I go down, there are always Yankee fans sitting there. Well this morning they had a huge piece of card board with all the front and back pages of this mornings papers!!

  39. jennifer 27 in 07

Hey what does the bottom of the news say? IT shows a picture of JOba, at least I think it is Joba.

  40. KurticusMaximus

I can’t say I’m rooting for Boston to win their series- NY-Boston series are just so stressful.

What I’m rooting for is for the Yanks to sweep Cleveland, and for LA and Boston to go the full 5 games, with a whole lot of extra innings thrown in there for good measure. I don’t care who wins, I just want them exhausted when they have to face NY.

And let’s go A-Rod! Time to crown that MVP season with a nice shiny World Series MVP title, too.

Yes did a video tribute to Cory before yesterdays game.

Here is the Billy Wagner article for New York Mag

    http://nymag.com/news/sports/38353/

It talks about the Yankees and mlb in general, very little about Wagner, until you get to the last paragraph.

  43. wood is good

I could never ever root for the Red Sox under any circumstances. I want them swept with extreme humilation by the Angels. The sooner they go home, the better.

  44. Tucson Ken

After being Die-Hard Yankee fan for 50+ years, it pains me to say this but I’ll be pulling for the Red Sox. Three reasons.
    (1) Way more scared of facing Angels, who own us, than Boston
    (2) Life does not get any better than Yankees-Sox in Postseason, all 5 hour’s worth each game of roller-coaster emotions.
    (3) It would be SO much more enjoyable for us, & so much more traumatic for Sox fans, if WE are the ones who rip their hearts out once again, rather than the Angels. It was great even watching them just stress, squirm, & angst when we almost just overtook them at the end.

That all being said, Cleveland’s one-two starters do scare me, in view of the way dominant pithing has handled us this year. I hope our starters can keep us close. Need Viz & Hideki to snap out of it & come up big. Go Yanks!

  45. Ranting Guy

It would sure suck to be a Mets fan today. Sorry if anyone is. I don’t dislike the Mets … just indifferent.

First and foremost I want to see the Angels beat the crap out of the Sox. If they can’t, I’d like to see the Yanks do it.

Would I like the Yanks to beat the Sox head-to-head for the pennant, thus entitling me the right of waving my private parts at Sox nation associates for another miserable failure directly at the hands of the Yanks? Sure. It’d be like mixing sand into the vaseline.

But if the Angels can send them home all the sooner, then that’s all the better. At least they’ll have been shut up.
