Chip Carey: play-by-play
Tony Gwynn: analysis
Bob Brenly: analysis
Craig Sager: sideline reporting.
Interesting choices, three National League guys and the guy who wears loud suits on the NBA telecasts.
shot me
other than Gwinn and Brenly, who???
I’m sure Brenly won’t mention 2001 at all…………..
*38-Donuts Too Old For Beans*
BOSTON—Red Sox manager Terry Francona revealed his pitching plans for the American League Division Series against the Angels, and Daisuke Matsuzaka is the choice for Game 2 instead of Curt Schilling.
The main reason cited for the Game 2-3 alignment is that the 40-year-old Schilling can benefit from the extra rest time more than Matsuzaka.
*Jury Harasses Thomas*
Breaking word – Jury has decided against Isiah Thomas and MSG.
I think I’m going to be listening to a lot of John and Suzyn.
This sucks, I would listen to John and Suzyn, but I think the radio feed comes in sooner than the HDTV. Oh well as long as the Yankees win the world series, I guess I can deal with it.

This is probably piling on the JV team in NYC, and I know we shouldnt cut and paste, but this is unreal. Check out the date. Peter would never do anything this stupid.

Anyone’s better than the FOX dudes. Will be interesting to hear NL take.
TWENTY SEVEN IN 07, HERE WE COME!
Peter,
Do you cover other NY teams as a beat reporter over the winter? Just curiosity.
Tony Gwynn is a good listen, I could do without Bob Brenly.
My booth pref for the #1 team game would’ve been Dick Stockton, Darling, and Gwynn. Darling is excellent on Mets games and would call it down the middle being a local guy.
They should pair Brenly up with the Red Sox announcer and keep them away from our games. Pair up Caray with his Braves buddy Joe Simpson and setup Ted Robinson with Steve Stone as they did.
Can we make an analyst trade? I think I heard Ron Darling is going to be part of the studio team, and that’s a waste. I’d love to have him do the Yankee games.
Gwynn Rules.
The others…?
Notsomuch.
I knew I should never mention the Mets. The link doesnt work–just like their bullpen. Go Yanks!
While Tony Gwynn will be solid, Brenly is going to be awful. He is definitely going to use this as a forum to audition for a new managerial gig, so look for him to be highly critical of whichever team is losing (it always easier to pile on the lose to sound adept at analysis). And Craig Sager is a hack.
The broadcast teams as is right now are as follows:
1)Caray, Gwynn, and Brenly
2)Stockton and Darling (Id like to trade Caray and Brenly for these two)
3)Ted Robinson and Steve Stone
4)Don Orsillo (Sawks guy) and Joe Simpson
I adore Tony Gwynn – SUCH a great guy – living in San Diego I got to meet him several times, he is always hanging out at the games and will talk to anyone. I really don’t understand how he ended up with that southern twang though. THAT is a mystery.

Ok, looks like the blog cuts off long URLS (or any strings).
So just cut and paste the 2nd line right after the first in your browser:

I would like to have heard Ron Darling, too. When he first started out, he was so tentative, but this past season he’s really blossomed. He’s not longer afraid to voice his opinion and it’s usually a good one.
At least its not Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Those guys are THE WORST
I suspect if the Yankees advance, Buck and McCarver might be part of the package.
Years ago, Tim McCarver did the Mets games and he was relatively new at broadcasting. His comments at that time were usually insightful and fun and he brought a different angle to the booth. But, he’s now just stale and pompous. Too bad.
I’d take Buck and McCarver any day over Joe Morgan…that guy has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about
Just watch the game with the sound off. You would be amazed at how good it can be!
Does anybody know what channel the game is on? On my TBS there is only Everybody Love Raymond.
I think Gwynn’s “southern twang” is a California thing. Yes, nice guy, but I can’t stand his voice and IMO he has no analytical skills (aside from the fact that he’s picked the Yankees to go all the way)/
Has the pregame coverage began yet? I am still searching through channels trying to find it.
I’ll take these guys over Phillips, McCarver, and Morgan any day.
cc –
I love Tony Gwynn – but I, too, am not crazy about his voice.
774 here in jersey on Time Warner HD
Woah, are the Rockies getting into playoffs this year after all?
EY
Dont count your chickens because remember this is Coors Field. This game will end up 11-10 I will bet.
with a little luck the lead/lag won’t be too bad and we can listen to john/suzan with the network muted.
What happens if any of these games go past the start time of the next game? Does TBS have a station that will carry the start of the next game? TNT perhaps?
ESPN has ESPN2 at least. It’s a pretty good bet that the AL games will go past the allotted time that TBS has estimated. I have the feeling this is not going to go good for them.
Gwynn is a good guy and fair when it comes to the Yankees. I like him, though his predictions are not always accurate (but then again who has a perfect record in the prediction and analysis department?)
TBS is terrible.
I’m glad that Tony Gwynn is doing the Yankees game. Tony was always one of my favorite players and the epitome of class. The Southern twang doesn’t bother me a bit, because I also have one. I do hate listening to myself on tape, though!!
Back in the day, I remember watching Cubs games with Chip Caray broadcasting. He always acted as if the American League were the Great Satan because, among other failings, they have the (gasp) Designated Hitter!! Hope he can keep that under control. However, I plan to perservere with John and Suzyn even with the time lag.
