Adding my 2 cents on the wedding.

Who takes only 48 hours leave for their own wedding anyway? I'm guessing the 48 hrs. means they had any post-wedding or honeymoon plans cancelled due to playoffs, rightfully so.

It makes sense to me that Kennedy should be approved leave for his wedding considering its HIS wedding and he had no reason to anticipate being in the major leagues when he set the date. So that's cool.

BUT, I would think the Yankees would be reasonable to tell the other players who are invited that due to playoffs they cannot attend out of state weddings the night before a playoff game. IF the team felt that their presence was even potentially crucial to Sunday's game or had any reason to worry about activities at the wedding they should tell Hughes and Joba not to go.

Having said that, I think its cool they are allowing them to go to their buddy's wedding as planned and hopefully have a good time. I'm not concerned about it. Seeing what we've seen of Joba so far I'd bet my money that Joba will be hurrying back to the stadium to show everyone he's ready and eager to get in the game.

who cares about the wedding, only important thing in there was that he can pitch in the ALCS if needed. If Hughes and Joba go, the team will make sure they understand the responsibility involved and quite frankly, everything I've read about their poise and composition tells me they'd be responsible enough and back in time to get well rested. St. Louis isn't exactly the other side of the earth.

That said, if it were my team, none of them would be going anywhere............ but they're professionals.

VTYankeeFan,

The future Mrs. Kennedy's college basketball practice is more important than the playoffs? Practice?!

It's about professionalism and focus. If you don't think those things are important in baseball, you apparently missed what happened in Flushing over the weekend.

Team goals take precedence over personal business than can easily be rescheduled. Kennedy's fiance apparently understands that. He should too.

I don't get the hate on the kids. Oh he shouldn't get married on that day, and they shouldn't go. Give me a break. They will and should be allowed to go. YOu give them a curfew and tell them not to drink too much. If you don't think they'd be out partying if they were in NY anyway you are clueless. The rumor was in 2003 that Jason was out PARTYING like a wild man the the night before he asked of the lineup.

KurticusMaximus HE STARTED OUT IN A BALL. He spoke to someone within the Yankee org and asked, they said it was okay for him to choose that since the minor league season was over by than. NO ONE THOUGHT A PITCHER WOULD START OUT AT SINGLE A AND END UP IN THE MAJORS ESPICALLY IN THE YANKEE SYSTEM!! When was the last time that happened?

Didn't Pete just mention the ceremony and not the reception? Fly into St. Louis late Saturday morning, hit the church and then fly to NYC on early Saturday evening. Think about it, that's probably better than these guys hangin' out in the city all day anyhow.

Randyhater, get a grip.

Kennedy's wife plays shooting guard for USC's women's basketball team. Her season starts (practice) in a week and she is unable to get time off either. This was scheduled way earlier in the season when no one in their right mind thought it was even remotely possible that Kennedy might be in the Majors, especially the way the Yankees carefully monitor their pitchers. Rescheduling a wedding is no small task, so the Yankees are right for not asking him to consider it.

Joba and Hughes should be allowed to attend the ceremony, but not the reception. They will be in Cleveland on Friday anyway, so head to St. Louis from there, see their friend get married and then head to NY. If Clemens can't go in Game 3, Mussina is likely to get the start before Hughes anyway, saving Hughes for Game 4. This shouldn't be that big of a deal and not attending the reception eliminates the risk of excessing drinking.

The Wizard of Oz thing was a rookie hazing - something they have been doing for years. If you think that prevented them from winning the division, well, I am glad that you aren't either the manager or GM.

Long time lurker, 1st time poster. As mentioned above, when Kennedy set the date he obtained permission from the Yankees. And FYI, his fiance plays college bball, so she has to get married before practice & the season starts. Finally, there is no way Joba or Hughes should miss the wedding. Its (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event. Its not like they would be missing a game. Finally, jennifer, I LOVE the optimism. :)
