Who cares about Prime Time? At least I won’t have to show up to work the next morning all groggy. Plus, these times are late enough where you don’t have to waste an entire day. I think these times are actually ideal.

  2. Darrin October 1st, 2007 at 4:57 pm

I don’t care about Prime Time either: just win. And trust me, it’s much worse for me because I live on the West Coast.

  3. dadofjft October 1st, 2007 at 5:00 pm

Are these times first pitch, or when TBS’ coverage begins?

  4. Franklyn October 1st, 2007 at 5:01 pm

i have to admit, these times are actually pretty great! i’m looking forward to a yankees-phillies world series!

  5. Bob October 1st, 2007 at 5:04 pm

Those are terrible start times. Twilight. No one sees the ball.

  6. Potch October 1st, 2007 at 5:07 pm

Not the greatest thing in the world for us nine-to-fivers who live in Jersey and work in the city and don’t get home until about SEVEN.

I can understand even the majority of the games early, but not a SINGLE prime time game?

God, please remove this blight Ted Turner has unleashed on the world.

  7. migames October 1st, 2007 at 5:07 pm

when will the bashers start blaming joe torre for these start times?

  8. Dr. Acula October 1st, 2007 at 5:07 pm

6:30? that’s only 1/2 hour from our regular starting time.

    Anyone in Cleveland?

what kind of shawdows are cast on Jacob field during twilight (Friday’s 5:00 PM game)??

  9. Bob October 1st, 2007 at 5:08 pm

YEah, looks like I’ll be missing the first few hours of all but the Sunday game. Thanks TBS.

  10. 2007 Yankees October 1st, 2007 at 5:08 pm

I like earlier starts but I’d prefer 7pm START times. I remember a few years ago I overslept almost every day because the Yankee games started at 8:30pm and got over 12-1am. So I take these games anytime, even if they are a bit earlier than I’d like.

  11. Doreen October 1st, 2007 at 5:11 pm

The times for these games are great for the kids. They will be able to see the entirety of all the games for a change, even if the games themselves don’t start at the stated times, but perhaps 20 minutes to a half hour later once the pre-game stuff is concluded.

It’s not great as far as the daylight/twilight issue is concerned, but it does affect both teams. At least they’re not out-and-out day games, which many more people wouldn’t see.

I think the Stadium will be packed anyway. Last year, the second game was a make-up and people just couldn’t get to the day game for obvious reasons. I remember the Stadium seeming lifeless and it was because not enough fans were in the seats. It certainly did not have the feel of a playoff game.

  12. Darrin October 1st, 2007 at 5:11 pm

The two 5:00 games might be susceptible to twilight conditions (assuming it’s not overcast) but the other games it won’t be an issue. This time of year, the sun is already set by 6:30 (a little bit later in Cleveland).

The only time that really concerns me is the ridiculous 5:00pm time for a potential game 5 on Wed. That would really suck. However, usually, there is flexibility with that time if the other series is over by then. Assuming the LAA-BOS series doesn’t go 5 games — then the NYY-CLE game would take that 8:30 slot.

  13. mel October 1st, 2007 at 5:11 pm

If the players feel slighted, they’ll show them. At least they’re not day games. Roger and Robbie don’t do so well during the day. ;)

  14. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism! October 1st, 2007 at 5:11 pm

6.30 start times are fine by mean; means the games will be over early enough to get some work done.

The five PM times bother me a bit, though; the Yankees don’t have a great day game record…

Anyway, when the Yankees make it to the ALCS, you better believe that it’ll be prime time!

  15. saucy October 1st, 2007 at 5:13 pm

i can live with these times

i’ll also echo dadofjft’s question. are these the times coverage begins or first pitch?

  16. Doreen October 1st, 2007 at 5:13 pm

    Dr. Ac –

Hey – you’re right. Only a half hour off regular schedule for the 6:30 game; only one hour for the 6:00 game. But “6″ sounds so much earlier! :)

  17. DMan October 1st, 2007 at 5:14 pm

Wow. Really random start times… Guess I can’t complain though..

Whats funny, is the Yankees are a .500 team in the day time, and have the third best record in all of baseball in night games.

  18. Chris NY October 1st, 2007 at 5:15 pm

garbage start times. some people work past 5pm….

When did TBS get the playoff games?

  19. mel October 1st, 2007 at 5:16 pm

I have a feeling that this is the TV schedule. 30 minutes of pre-game takes you up to 7 pm start. Is that not prime-time for you guys?

  20. Doreen October 1st, 2007 at 5:17 pm

They aren’t really day games, though. So, I’m not too worried regarding the Yankees’ record in day games this year. Besides, by the time the games are in the 4th inning or so, it’ll be dark.

  21. migames October 1st, 2007 at 5:18 pm

“When did TBS get the playoff games?”

when they lost the rights to showing Everyone Loves Raymond and Friends for 4 hours straight

  22. Thurman October 1st, 2007 at 5:18 pm

I love it! I can see the whole 4-hour game for a change! Yes!

  23. Sara October 1st, 2007 at 5:19 pm

I agree that it will be nice to get the games over early and not be tired the next day, but can you even imagine what traffic is going to be like getting to the stadium? I have tickets for Monday..i am going to have to leave work at 2 in the afternoon!!!!!

  24. Henrik October 1st, 2007 at 5:19 pm

But it’s only a half hour earlier. I didn’t expect these games to start ’til a little after 8. Now I gotta chance around my entire schedule, especially for Monday since I have tickets.

  25. passer by October 1st, 2007 at 5:20 pm

Who are the clowns who made up these schedules? All of them.

  26. Sara October 1st, 2007 at 5:22 pm

think about it guys..all of teh games are being showed on one station. these times do not include pregame. all of the yankee pregame and post game is going to be on yes. they are showing the games one right after the other…all 8 teams who are in the post season on one channel..what happens if a game goes into extra innings..i am not going to sit and watch boston when the yanks are scheduled!

  27. passer by October 1st, 2007 at 5:22 pm

LOL. Look at the schedule of the other DS. 6:30, 8:30, 3:00. WTF.

  28. saucy October 1st, 2007 at 5:23 pm

i guess if any games overlap, fans of the 2nd game gets screwed out of the first few innings.

  29. mel October 1st, 2007 at 5:23 pm

Are the Mets fans grumbling about their post-season schedule? Oh, wait… We’re in, never mind the schedule. Just need to win 3 games against the Indians.

  30. Sara October 1st, 2007 at 5:24 pm

well that is ridiculous cause we are going to be the second game a few times!

  31. saucy October 1st, 2007 at 5:26 pm

i’m just assuming sara. but i don’t see an alternative.

    TNT maybe ?

  32. migames October 1st, 2007 at 5:27 pm

if the game goes over, i think they will show the start of the other one on tnt

  33. Sara October 1st, 2007 at 5:28 pm

i know crazy! they should have more than one station for the games. for the ALDS they should let each team’s own station cary the games and then go to the bigger networks for ALCS and world series!

  34. Dr. Acula October 1st, 2007 at 5:29 pm

Poor Chicago has a 9:00 *PM* CST start time on Wednesday.

And Boston has to play game 3 at 12:00 *noon* in the O.C. (HA!)

    Full schedules here (scroll down)

  35. migames October 1st, 2007 at 5:30 pm

    yes, indeed:

“Should multiple tie-breaking games be played, or if multiple Division Series game are scheduled at the same time, those additional games would air on TBS’ sister station, TNT”

  36. Dr. Acula October 1st, 2007 at 5:32 pm

    Monday, October 8th
6:00 pm ET: *CLE @ NYY* (Game 4, if necessary)
9:30 pm ET: BOS @ LAA (Game 4, if necessary)
If only one game will be played on Monday, then game time *shifts to 7:30 pm ET.*

    Wednesday, October 10th
5:00 pm ET: *NYY @ CLE* (Game 5, if necessary)
8:30 pm ET: LAA @ BOS (Game 5, if necessary)
If only one game will be played on Wednesday, then game time *shifts to 8:30 pm ET.*

  37. Dr. Acula October 1st, 2007 at 5:37 pm

    *38-Donuts Too Old For Beans*

BOSTON — Red Sox manager Terry Francona revealed his pitching plans for the American League Division Series against the Angels, and Daisuke Matsuzaka is the choice for Game 2 instead of Curt Schilling.

The main reason cited for the Game 2-3 alignment is that the 40-year-old Schilling can benefit from the extra rest time more than Matsuzaka.

    *Jury Harasses Thomas*

Breaking word – Jury has decided against Isiah Thomas and MSG.

  38. Doreen October 1st, 2007 at 5:38 pm

    Sara -

    * for the ALDS they should let each team’s own station cary the games and then go to the bigger networks for ALCS and world series!

    What a great – GREAT – idea!

  39. Travis October 1st, 2007 at 5:38 pm

I’m with Doreen – these starting times are PERFECT for kids! MLB should do this more often.

  40. Pat October 1st, 2007 at 5:40 pm

what the hell are they thinking! Most people in this country work untill 5:00 or 5:30! I don’t even get home until 6:30 jsklj3w;kljef >_

  41. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism! October 1st, 2007 at 5:42 pm

    Dr. A–Wow, we got lucky!

  42. Jeff NJ October 1st, 2007 at 5:43 pm

I like it! Guess I’m taking a half a day Monday, no problem the Yankees are more important than work at this point.

  43. Gayle October 1st, 2007 at 5:43 pm

Remember all Sunday is SUnday should be little traffic unless of course you need to go by Giantds Stadium whci8h will be hosting the Giants/Jets game my adive get to the stadium in time for gates to open (2 hours before game time)

and MOnday is a holiday here in New York (remember that pesky guy Columbus) so perhaps not that much traffic that day either I donthave work so will be happily watching from home on Monday.

  44. Dr. Acula October 1st, 2007 at 5:44 pm

    *Holy Cow* (no pun intended)

Britney Spears loses custody of kids!

Wow, you’ve hit the bottom of the barrel when KFed is the “better” parent.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann is gonna be awesome, tonite.

  45. saucy October 1st, 2007 at 5:46 pm

_for the ALDS they should let each team’s own station cary the games and then go to the bigger networks for ALCS and world series! _

    i’d love that.

except people in the market of teams that didn’t make the postseason wouldn’t get to watch the ALDS at all…

  46. saucy October 1st, 2007 at 5:47 pm

my company apparently hates america :?

  47. Kill-Schill(ing) October 1st, 2007 at 5:49 pm

In Cleveland, Sundown is 7:05pm and 7:04pm for Games 1 and Games respectively.

Shadows shouldn’t present a problem then for the first game, nor after the first-hour of Game 2.

  48. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism! October 1st, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Gayle–If you’re going to see the Yankee game though, you’d probably take GWB, no? And the Giants/Jets would be the Tunnel?

Shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

  49. Mike R. October 1st, 2007 at 6:05 pm

As someone who doesn’t get YES I am completely opposed to the ALDS on local carriers idea. It’s the playoffs, they have to go national.

In addition, the 5:00 PM starting time is a bit rough, by the time I get home half the game should be over.

  50. Ted Turner Sucks October 1st, 2007 at 6:05 pm

At this rate, all the games will be over before half of NY is home from work. Honestly, who in NY leaves work at 5? However, I am sure it works fine in Cleveland, where the plants and other rust-belt workplaces shut down by 5 p.m. at the latest.

  51. TBS Hater October 1st, 2007 at 6:10 pm

Gayle — Almost no one in NY gets off from work on Monday. The market is open.

  52. Christina October 1st, 2007 at 6:10 pm

I think these times are horrible. I always thought the games were on at 7 or 8 at night. While 8 can be too late, 5pm is entirely too early. Some of us do have to travel 4 hours to get to the stadium. It wouldnt be as big of a problem if I didnt have class in the morning.

  53. Dave October 1st, 2007 at 6:13 pm

The yanks cant really be patient with sabathia or we wont get hits. Hes walked 37 in 241 innings – thas the best in the majors. Carmona walked 61 in 215. But sabathia has let up almost a hit per inning. Carmona has 16 less hits than inning pitched. Both 19 game winners. Neither has let up many homers – 19 and 20 respectively with both pitching well over 200 innings. Sabathia isnt much better against lefties than righties for his career but he is this yr. Sabathia is slightly better at home. Sabathia is far worse on six plus days rest – 4.33 era and 37 hits in 27 innings but has been far better in the second half. Sabathia is horrible against the yanks in his career – 41.2 innings, 7.13 era, 43 hits, 30 walks, 9 homers, and a 1-7 record in 8 starts. Sabathia doesnt do any worse as the game goes on. Carmona has done worse at home this yr than on the road but had a much better second half. He also doesnt get any worse as the game goes on. He has done the worst with six or more days rest – 2-1 (3-4 for his career) 3.93 era, 18 innings, 22 hits and 5 walks. Carmona against the yanks for his career 16 innings – 2 homers, 3.86 era, 16 hits, 3 walks and hes 0-1 in 2 games. Judging on their second half numbersat home, these games will be tough on our offense. But if you look at their numbers against the yanks or their numbers on six days rest, the yanks should pound them. Sabathia last started on sept. 28th and is schedule to start on Oct 4. Carmona last started on sept. 26th and is scheduled to start oct 5. So I guess trying to predict the future of our offensive (whether they come out like 2006 or 1998) all depends on which numbers u want to use to estimate. Other things to consider is that the yanks havent faced sabathia in year but carmona last faced the yanks in august when ge gave up 4 runs,a homer, 8 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings and we won 6-1. The game before and after he pitched one run games in 8 innings against the tigers and twins (2 pretty good teams) so it wasnt like he was at a low point in his season. He also lost to the yanks in april. We also went 6-0 against the indians this yr but sabathia didnt pitch in any of those games. Byrd gave up 7 runs to the yanks in 2 innings in early august of this yr. Westbrook gave up 4 runs and 9 hits in 7 innings in august and 8 runs not getting past the second inning in april. Westbrook is 2-4 against the yanks with a 5.29 for his career – 47 innings. In yankeestadium westbrook gets hammered and has an era over 7 (1-4.) Byrd is 1-4 against the yanks for his career 4.44 era. He is 0-2 at the stadium with a respectable 3.5 era.

  54. Darrin October 1st, 2007 at 6:21 pm

    Dave,

Thanks for all the good info, but frankly, none of that means anything. Remember, according to the numbers, we should’ve easily handled Kenny Rogers and the Tigers last year.

October baseball is a horse of a different color.

  55. Doreen October 1st, 2007 at 6:23 pm

    Ted Etc….

My husband never gets home before 8 p.m. Usually the Yankees are in the 3rd inning by then. At least most people will get to the see the END of the games. Said husband also gets up before 5 to get to work by 7:30. So, many times, he has not seen the end of playoff games. If the tradeoff is missing the first couple of innings, but getting to see the end, I’ll take it every time.

  56. Dave October 1st, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Only victor martinez is batting over 300 but 5 indians have more than 20 homers. Only hafner and martinez have more than 100 rbis and sizemore is the only indian with more than 100 runs. 3 yanks have more than 100 rbis and 4 have more than 100 runs. 4 yanks are batting over 300. The offensive comparisons arent even close – the yanks are better in every category except centerfield and first base- sizemore is prolly the indians best player and garko is a possible riding star while dougie is there for defensive purposes mostly except he has been killing the ball the last month. Comparing hafner and giambi is difficult but i guess due to giambi’s extremely subpar yr hafner gets the edge. The yanks have a deeper bench and a deeper pen. However, the pens are closer than some fans may think – their two rafeal’s have era’s below 2 pitching a combined 140 innings. Fultz has an era below 3 pitching almost 40. Browski has 45 saves but is horrible this yr sporting an era over 5. This is very similar to detroits team last yr where their closer isnt even close to their best relief pitcher so its going to be tough coming back into the game because the only soft underbelly of this team is their closer. However, with hughes and kennedy joining chamberlain and mo in the pen we should have the edge. Not to mention, viz and farnsy can be lights out at times. Ohlendorf should round out the bullpen but may not.

  57. Drive 4-5 October 1st, 2007 at 6:28 pm

I wonder what happens on Thursday when the Yankees 6:30 game runs into the start of the prime time 8:30 Red Sox game? Will TBS leave the Yankee game to show the real Evil Empire???

  58. Drive 4-5 October 1st, 2007 at 6:31 pm

Sorry, I misread the schedule. The Yankee game strts at 5 on the day the Red Sux start at 8:30,

  59. Dave October 1st, 2007 at 6:32 pm

i know darrin but im not just comparing their starters to ours straight up – im trying to go inside the numbers seeing how they do at home (sabathia and carmona) and in yankee stadium (byrd and westbrook) and im trying to see how they have done against the yanks in their career and recently, how they do on six plus days rest which they all have had and how they have done against every team in the second half which is extremely well. Its easy to compare our players to their players and usually doesnt mean much but alot more info can be obtained from seeing how they have done in the past in situations they will encounter this next week. Its very interesting to see that all of them pretty much do significantly worse on six days rest and they r getting like two weeks off and all four starters have done extremely poorly against the yanks in their careers. Take all of these numbers with a grain of salt but it leaves one feeling optimistic. Last yr, many of the detroit pitchers had pretty decent numbers against the yankee team but everyone just compared their whole roster to our whole roster.

  60. Cindy & Cheryl October 1st, 2007 at 6:37 pm

People should not blame Joe Torre for things he is not responsible for like dates and times for the playoff games.
It is up to the commissioner’s office who decides what time the games will be, not Joe Torre. It about time, too, that the playoffs will be at an earlier and more reasonable time.
We hope the Pennant and the World Series games are also at a much earlier time.

Children & adults do not want to stay up late to see the games and then have to get up early the next day for school or work. These times are the way it used to be years ago.
Pleaase try to keep it that way now.

  61. TBS Hater October 1st, 2007 at 6:56 pm

Cindy & Cheryl — Then let’s blame the commissioner’s office for this debacle, though I bet TBS had a hand in this, too. No one in NY will be able to see much, if any of these games. People here do not generally work 9-5. If you do not believe me, get on a subway at 8 p.m. on a weekday and see for yourself. Or check out the line of town cars waiting outside of every single office building each night.

  62. chris October 1st, 2007 at 7:22 pm

Awful, I dont walk in from work until 7 as well, and that announcing team sounds dreadful as well

who would have thought the day would come where people are begging for buck and mccarver

  63. The Monk October 1st, 2007 at 7:31 pm

This bites because I’m in Central time as a displaced fan and usually don’t leave the office until 7. At least the two games at the Stadium are on a Sunday and holiday.

Must be revenge by TBS for FOX’s NY bosses constantly scheduling the Braves for midafternoon games. Really, who gave a s**t about the Braves, other than a mild interest in watching them choke?

  64. The Monk October 1st, 2007 at 7:37 pm

Oh yeah, the announcers bite (other than Gwynn). The last time I heard Chip Caray he was rooting on the Cardinals during the Rocket’s 300th win when he beat those stiffs at the Stadium in ’03. For some inane reason, my satellite subscription dumped the Cards’ broadcast on me instead of the usual YES telecast. How annoying to hear three hours of Caray rooting against the Rocket.

Brenly is a tool. He lucked out in having the one postseason where Randy Johnson didn’t do his worst Ed Figueroa (regular season 1976-78 = 55-30, ERA approx. 3.20; postseason 0-4, 7.47) imitation.

  65. Jeter's future wife October 1st, 2007 at 7:41 pm

can’t you all that have to work come up with a stomach flu of some sort Friday afternoon? if not, you’re streamin! this is one of those times when it’s great to be self-employed! I can do what I want (most times)

  66. Jeter's future wife October 1st, 2007 at 7:46 pm

anyone watching the play-in game on TBS? give you a little dose of what’s to come re: announcing.

also, is anyone planning on watching BOS games?

  67. Jeter's future wife October 1st, 2007 at 7:57 pm

Peavy having some 1st inning Glavine-like trouble!

  68. jennifer 27 in 07 October 1st, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Gayle you get off for Columbus day? I have to work :(

  69. jennifer 27 in 07 October 1st, 2007 at 8:17 pm

Reading thru I see I’m not the only one that doesn’t get off for Columbus Day. Next holiday we’ll lose is Presidents Day. I hear in my industry alot of places were already open this year. I just hope my boss doesn’t find out. Year after year we keep losing days off. :(

  70. pat October 1st, 2007 at 8:20 pm

As Yankee fans, we know 3 hour games are a pipe dream. Hope TBS knows that 3.5 hours between start times could be an issue.

  71. ramar October 1st, 2007 at 8:31 pm

Anyone who is unhappy about the times only has to put up with them for 3 GAMES. Then we’ll be in ‘Prime Time” the rest of the “Series”.

  72. pat m in CT October 1st, 2007 at 8:36 pm

Great for kids and people with early shifts. But for a lot of us with long commutes, not so. Strange starting times. I’d rather have seen a 7:30 start and shave a minute off the commercial breaks (though MLB doesn’t have the b*lls to tell them and money talks). TBS can’t be worse than Fox for play by play. Nobody could be as annoying as McCarver and Buck.

  73. egg October 1st, 2007 at 9:18 pm

F**k work, it’s the PLAYOFFS, what we live for at the end of every long long season. LEAVE EARLY. Call in SICK. I leave my office every day right at 5 because that’s all my job deserves!! And when I have to leave early (aka day game at the stadium) I just make my excuses and GO. Unless you work at the Playboy Mansion, no one lays on their deathbed wishing they spent more time at work.

  74. Brian C October 1st, 2007 at 9:58 pm

The start times suck. Most people are still at work. Makes more sense to stay up a bit later.

The TBS broadcast teams are going to suck. Actally, they already have, for the SD/Colorado game. Somebody wake these guys up. Are they sedated. Does TBS even offer High Def? The TBS announcers make Sterling and Waldman sound GREAT! I guess I’ll be muting the TV.

  75. #9 October 1st, 2007 at 10:00 pm

“At this rate, all the games will be over before half of NY is home from work. Honestly, who in NY leaves work at 5?”

I think all the bars and pubs in Manhattan will be doing great business on Thursday & Friday Evenings.

And if there is a game 4 on Monday – I’ll be at the Stadium and off from work – thanks Chris Columbus!

I love the starting times. How long have we been complaining about kids not being able to see the end of games? These are IDEAL start times for those of us living in the eastern time zone. BTW…I’m in Ohio, but I’ve been a Yanks fan for 40+ years.

Is TBS going to broadcast games in HD?

The Monk, I am in the same situation as you. I am so pissed…I will literally ONLY get to watch game 3. weak weak weak weak weak weak weak. Did we get bumped for the Red Sox and Cubs? Makes sense. Those teams have TONS of fans throughout the country and the West Coast start times. Still, I say screw the kids, it’s all about me dammit!

When you are living over here in the UK – these times are much nicer than being in prime-time – it means I might be able to be in bed at a semi reasonable hour!

The games will be broadcast in HD, last night’s game was and I have to say I was impressed with the TBS HD feed, much better than the junk that ESPN and Fox put out.

We all need to cut MLB some slack here, this is the best they could do. The Red Sox had 2 4:00 PM games in 2004.
