gayle: from what i've heard, the roll call was started in the 80's. people in the bleachers would start calling for Dave Winfield in right until he responded somehow. Eventually they moved on and started calling everyone's name out...

_I refer to an Ortiz walk off homer as a waddle off._

hilarious!

i wanted the padres to win last night. but once they went ahead in the 13th i thought how great a Hoffman blown save would be and i hoped the Rockies would tie it back up again and go to the 14th.

I completely agree. I was thinking about it when several Red Sox fans and Mets fans were saying that it wasnt even the greatest collapse in the city. I decided that not only can any team lose 4 straight but when you think about it, we lost 4 straight to the team that eventually won the World Series and was probably one of the two or three best teams in the league that year (the other being the Yanks and Angels and maybe St. Louis). The Mets lost 8 of 13 the two worst teams in their own division and two of the worst teams in all of baseball. Not to mention the fact that those teams had nothing to play for while we lost to a Red Sox team fighting for their playoff lives in every single game.

I truly believe our "collapse" wasnt even really a collapse so much as a a confluence of bad luck, bad umpiring, a rainout and Kevin Brown/Javier Vazquez.

Bx is burning: I'm sure law talk is fun for lawyers, but my sister takes it too far. She thinks I care, and I just do not. She emails me crap from law journals. I just don't care. Just because I retain the information and she thinks I'd be good at it doesn't mean I'd want to do it.

Mets collapse is WAY worse than the Yanks.

Anyone can lose four games in a row, which, is exactly what the Yankees did. I believe in 07 both the Yankees and the Sox had four game losing streaks?

The Mets, on the other hand, had 17 chances to win TWO games.

That takes some serious LOSING.
