‘Preciate it if you could fill us in on the post season roster when it’s avialable Peter.
It ireally is amazing how out of touch some players could be in todays New York Post there is a quote from Brian Bruney saying he was “shocked” when he was told that he would not be part of the postseason and not asked to workout with the team on Tuesday.
How could he think he would be after the way he pitched late in the season actually most of the season.
Although they didnt say who was on the roster they said Joe told players who were not options Bruney being one of them.
Get a clue Bruney, when you walk more than strike out, your not invited to the post season !!!!!!As If….
gayle: at the same time, maybe Bruney realizes the Yankees may not want to keep him, so he doesn’t want to make it seem like he KNOWS how bad he is, so if other teams are looking at him, he wants to seem confident.
Or maybe he’s crazy.
I missed Jorge’s managerial debut… spent most of the day admiring the debacle in Flushing… and watching football… and watching golf…
I feel a little pain for Willie, but this was certainly a just reward for the smugness the exhibited Mets during the first three quarters of the season.
I’m relieved that Bruney is not one the postseason roster. The Yankees need to put up a sign for him on the clubhouse door that reads “keep out.” Selfish and unappreciative players like him are what tears teams apart. I say unappreciative because it looks to me like he doesn’t appreciate the fact that the Yankees gave him every opportunity to work out of his problems and make the playoff roster.
I’m glad that Posada enjoyed managing. It would have been neat if he would have pinch hit himself in the way that Bernie Williams did when he managed. Jeter’s ribbing was pretty funny!
posada was all business as manager yesterday . it was sort of funny .
i liked bruhney but his true colors showed ( exposed ) during the long course of the season . his colors being walks . in a short series you take a big risk bringing in a guy like bruney . same can be said for kyle farnsworth . bruney walks too many and farnsworth can’t seem to keep the ball in the park . farnworth makes the post season roster in my opinion but only comes in in safe situations .
How could Brian Bruney not make the post season roster or not even be under consideration? Did Joe miss all those strikeouts and how he didn’t walk guys under pressure situatiations?
Oh never mind that was all in Brians mindless head.
He should never forget that the Yankees and Joe gave him his shot after he was released by the Diamondbacks. But apparently he already has.
For whatever reason, guys like Bruney and Kyle, who are good athletes, cannot consistently throw the ball the same way (mechanics), hence the wildness and walks. Girardi once said on YES that when he caught Kyle on the Cubs, his delivery would vary not only game to game, but sometimes pitch to pitch. And that’s what we’ve seen with both of these guys. That’s why they’ve bounced around. Someone like Scott Shields with the Angels, who has been their set up guy forever, is that rare relief pitcher who is consistent in what he does, and that’s why he’s been with them forever.
Continuing the pattern of 51-25 since the break, the Yankees need to ( and I think WILL ) go 11-5 and win the World Series. I would like to see Ohlendorf on the Postseason Roster and Farnsy on a beach in the Bahamas.
Maybe I’m just too old school, but I’m glad Posada was at least “all business”, and to take the point a bit further – I’ve never cared for this little end of the season sthick of Torre’s.
Yeah, it’s pretty cute to see the players yucking it up with the role-playing, but not so funny in retrospect when they turn back around and get their asses kicked in the very first round
The last game of the season is a day at the office, and professionalism and preparation should take precedence …. in which case maybe Melky for one would have had his head in the game yesterday.
11 more wins.
Yeah, Joey bag O’Donuts. The reason they lost in the 1st round last year was because they had a lot of fun the last day with Bernie managing. Get your head out of your butt.
Joe from Long Island,
Terrible example with Shields. Who lost his job this year with the Angels.
We got the brain dead crew posting today.
that might be the first time i’ve ever heard bruney described as a good athlete…
Excuse me, Andy. Upon further review, you may have a point. I don’t follow the Angels all that closely, and I think you may be right that Shields has been off his game this year. However, he has been pretty good at what he does prior, and he has done a good job for them for what seems like a long time. It seems like he always got it done against us. But the particular players was not my point so much as the difficulty in being consistently good and how when a team has such a guy, they hold onto him – as the Angels have done with Shields – and they don’t circulate from team to team, like Kyle, Bruney, and a long list of others.
Will – Bruney is a professional athlete, not necessarily one of the best, but a professional athlete nonetheless.
I work with approxmately 15 Mets fans, and they took great glee in mocking my Yanks the first half of this year while acting as though their postseason was in the bag. Even as the Yanks crept up back in the standings, all they could express to me was “the Mets are still the better team.” As much as may WANT to laugh in their effin’ faces today, I’m gonna show some class and give them my condolences.
I find it funny how Met fans hate anything associated with the Yankees, yet I am hearding some saying they want Joe G to be their manager. I guess they forgot he was a Yankee.
Sounds like it is a possibility that Kennedy might pitch some in the post season. That’s good to hear!
Best wishes on his wedding, too!
I hope he gets the chance
That would mean we went past the first round!
we HAVE to go past the first round. I’ve got tickets to the ALCS and it would be my first ALCS!
I hear ya Andrea – our tickets are for the ALCS too. I missed out last year since they were gone so quickly. They HAVE to make it to the next round.

Gordon Says Yanks Should Keep Joba Where He Is
By Tyler Kepner
Tags: Joba Chamberlain, Mariano Rivera, Yankees
It was nice to catch up with Tom Gordon on Sunday before the Phillies’ clincher in Philadelphia. Gordon was looking forward to fishing in Central Florida this winter, which he described in great detail. Apparently he shares the fish with anyone in town who asks. He’s hoping to get Manager Charlie Manuel to go with him this winter – but, of course, the fishing trip is on hold for a while.
Anyway, we got to talking about the Yankees, for whom Gordon served as a reliable setup man in the regular seasons of 2004 and 2005. Gordon became close with Mariano Rivera, and he said he still speaks regularly with him; they talked on Thursday, in fact.
I asked Gordon about Joba Chamberlain, and he had an interesting perspective. Gordon said the Yankees should keep Chamberlain as a setup man and the successor to Rivera as the closer.
His reasoning was sound: Gordon said Chamberlain would never be able to sustain 100 miles an hour as a starter, over 200 innings. But because he’s had success throwing so hard, Gordon said, Chamberlain would be tempted to try. That, Gordon said, could backfire and cause him to wear down much quicker than he would as a reliever.
Gordon has had a long career, overcoming injuries to stay in the game for nearly 20 years now. He’s a former starter who found success as a closer and setup man, the role he envisions for Chamberlain.
The Yankees continue to insist that Chamberlain is more valuable to them as a starter for the future, but I’m not so sure. If they go deep into October and Chamberlain has an impact on a lot of the games, they’ll know he has the stuff and the moxie to handle the biggest of pressure spots. There’s a lot to be said for a discovery like that, and the Yankees might want to keep him right where he is.
Is it just me or any body else think the redsox made a strategical blunder by choosing the 8 day schedule. The only edge redsox have over the other 3 teams is the back end starters. They do not have the best second starter. Infact, IMHO they have the worst number 2 of the four AL contenders. In addition to replacing a Saunders/Santana Vs Wakefield/Lester(which is a wash) with Escobar Vs Schilling matchup (which obviously is in favo of the Angels), they pushed the second Lackey Vs Beckett matchup from Fenway to LA.
In addition to this, they also helped the yankees by forcing Cleveland to use 4 starters. I would think Mussina Vs Byrd is a better matchup for the yankees than Pettitte Vs Carmona is. Another hidden advantage for the short series is that the winner of this series is almost guaranteed to have their #1 or #2 start game 1 of ALCS. That is not the case with the winner of 8 day series. If it goes 5 games, they will have to start #3 and #4 in first 2 games of the LCS.
The only aspect the short schedule worked against the yankees is in terms of the availability of Joba.
where can i check the post season roster, anyone, anyone, buller, buller, sj44, sj44?
The thing that most are forgetting is that Bruney will still make a few extra bucks in the postseason. He’ll get playoff share money. Sounds like he may be done as a Yankee. He did a LOT of good this year and last half of last season and some bad this year. Maybe he’ll take the postseason snub as motivation and come back strong next season for either that Yankees or some other team.

I think that was “felt,” yes, which is what I think you meant to say.
We as Yankee fans need to keep our mouths shut regarding the Mets catastrophe. We are notorious for having short memories, and while the Mets certainly suffered the worst regular season collapse in history, don’t forget what happened three years ago – the worst postseason collapse in history, at the hands of the Red Sox. I was unfortunate enough to be in the heart of Red Sox Nation for the entire ALCS that year, and nothing has ever hurt so much. As we embark on yet another October in the playoffs, let’s allow the Mets and their fans to grieve and focus on our own season.
MJL: well said.
passer by – YES, I was thinking the same thing. When I first heard that that was their choice, I thought I read it wrong. Now obviously I’m sure they have their reasons, but at first glance it certainly seems to me like that was not their best bet.
Doug so will Pavano the” mooch” get a share!
Passer By- I don’t think you can really call Boston’s choice of the 8-day schedule a blunder, but it may end up backfiring on them.
Really, the only team that would have benefited from the 8-day is Cleveland, because they could use Sabathia twice. For LA, Boston, and NY, there’s not much advantage one way or another.
I suppose Boston figured an extra day of rest can’t hurt, especially when you have an old guy like Schilling and a rest-sensitive guy like Dice-K in your top 3 starters. And it would have been pretty presumptuous for Boston to have chosen the 7-day schedule to force NY to face Sabathia twice, since that’s really the only reason for them to pass on the 8-day.
I guess we’ll see if it backfires on Boston. In any event, let’s hope Wang brings his A-game on Thursday, so the Yankees can beat up Sabathia and make the whole debate not matter.
From Rotoworld (source: NY Post):
“The Yankees told Brian Bruney, who pitched in three of the four ALDS games last season, that they won’t need him anymore this year and to go home.
“I was shocked,” Bruney said. The Yankees have decided to go with Ross Ohlendorf, Chris Britton and Jose Veras as bullpen options for the 25-man playoff roster. “
In other news, the geniuses over at ESPN have already posted their ALDS predictions.
7 out of 10 (including Phillips, Olney, Gammons and Neyer) have picked the Indians over the Yankees.
This is excellent news.
mo
the viz
joba
hughes
veras
villone
maybe edwar
i would take edwar/veras/britton/olendorf over farnworth any day of the week . i just dont like him .
Darrin Great news!! THey didn’t pick up to make the post season either.
Bruney doesn’t deserve to even play in the MLB. Good riddance.
I hope Ohlendorf makes the roster.
I honestly believe that the Yankees can pitch their way past the Indians. Yes, I said pitch. In the first two games, Wang and Pettitte are fully capable of shutting them down. It’s also good to have Dr. Philgood as a security blanket in case of failure from the Rocket or Moose. Keeping Sizemore in check is a key, and also being able to take away big opportunities for Hafner and Victor Martinez is key. It’s also great news that most of the ESPN crew is picking Cleveland. I wish that Thursday would hurry up and get here. I cannot wait!!
Lots and lots of talk about who Torre places on the pitching roster. Ultimately, it’s not going to matter, because I sincerely doubt Jose Veras or Ross Ohlendorf are going to be difference makers.
It’s extremely simple: If Yankee starters can pitch 6-7 effective innings per start, it’s off to the ALCS. If they don’t, it’s off to the golf courses and fishing holes.
Hey, a mea culpa from Steve Phillips:
Steve Phillips: (12:20 PM ET ) I am picking the Yankees to lose to the Indians because of Sabbathia. He is my pick for the AL Cy Young, he is having a great season. He has held leftuies to a .203 batting average and a .229 on base pecentage which is crazy. He has struck out 75 left-handed hitters and walked only four. So he has amazing control and can throw the ball over the plate to get hitters out. That is what you need to do against New York. They take more pitchers than any other team and do not chase pitches. So to get them put pitchers have to have the type of stuff to get swings and misses in the strike zone. Sabbathia has that kind of stuff. I think it has a chance to be a great series. But as I said earlier, Clemens maybe the deciding factor and I do not think he is up for it. *But then again I have been wrong on the Yankees a few times this season.*
Darinn,
I agree! Wang, Pettitte, Clemens, and Mo (even Moose) all have had postseason success. I’m hoping that the Yankees’ experience will tilt the scale.
We also have an MVP on a mission.
Does anyone else think that, since the World Series finishes in November this year, and that Derek Jeter is the original Mr. November… that the Yankees are just destined to win it this year?
MJL AMEN!!
What the Met fans and players are feeling words can’t describe. It’s still a sore spot for me 2004 .
Our focus should be the Bronx Bombers. Remember that cream always rises to the top, always.
The Bombers Are the Creme De La Creme” came back from incredible odds and injuries galore!!!
Darrin–I think Ohlendorf can be a difference maker with his sinker, fastball, and slider. He could pitch in the 6th or 7th, if the Viz doesn’t return to form.
I do not predict baseball series because they are ultimately like coin flips, but let’s just say I can easily “foresee” the following scenario:
Sabbathia dominates the Yankees in Game 1; Pettitte comes up big in Game 2; Game 3 goes to the Yanks in a wild one; CLE panics a bit and starts Sabbathia on short rest in Game 4, and the Yanks win it late.
I realize it all sounds a little too specific to be a hunch, but I can actually see it playing out that way.
I like it when Steve Phillips eats crow. Has Buster Olney admit to being wrong about the Yankees? I haven’t heard from him in about a minute.
Darrin, you’re right about the starters pitching 6-7 effective innings. I’ve got a very good feeling about Wang, Pettitte, and Moose doing just that. Possibly Roger. About fishing holes, hopefully after this series the Indians will be able to tell us about how those Cuyahoga catfish are biting.
E-roc, he has, and so have others. Here is the before and after. Humble pie my friend, humble pie:
http://migames.wordpress.com/2.....ws-eat-it/
EROC: Agreed. Except when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, I can’t see Torre putting Ohlendorf into that position. Let’s just hope he doesn’t put Edwar in.
Olie is a difference maker. He gives up less runs than the other options. Villone>Veras>Ramirez.
I hate the ESPN anal..lysts they are all anti-yankees..But well is great to see they are always wrong about our team.
About the roster:Just keep Bruney ,Farnswoth and Edwar out of the bullpen, then we should be ok.
Im confident the starting pitchers will prove to be quality pitchers,Wang,Pettite,Hughes or Mussina(i dont think the rocket is healthy enough)..And the Bombers will back them up with a heavy artillery attack.
Note..Torre and Cash should let Roger get ready for the ALCS.
Roger Clemens has this all set up to pull a John Wayne and squeeze out one last heroic effort. Whether it’s here in Game 3 or in the ALCS, it will be quite a spectacle, no doubt.
I’m not questioning that he is hurt at all, I know that he is, but he can make one last stand, just like the Duke!
Found this in a Cleveland paper yesterday:
THE RULES
“Final rosters don’t have to be sent to the commissioner’s office until 10 a.m. of the day a team starts the Division Series.
A rule change this year allows a team to replace an injured player while a playoff series is ongoing. Pitchers must replace pitchers, and position players must replace position players. An injured player removed in the middle of a series cannot be included on the roster of the subsequent series.”
Seems like it could be an interesting loophole…especially if, God forbid, Clemens can’t go or Kennedy is on the roster and can’t pitch…
Wonder what would happen if St. Louis was in the playoffs…could they bring on someone like Ankiel saying he’s a pitcher?
Steve Phillips needs to take a typing lesson or two.
Darrin–I don’t think Edwar is going to make the postseason roster. He played his way out this month, IMO, along with others.
EROC – Let’s hope so.
Thanx, Migames!
Not to nit pick but we will see CC twice regardless. The difference is seeing Carmona for the second time. I agree that either schedule doesn’t make much diff for yankees as it is. But you have to remember Cleveland’s loss is yankees gain. Thats why it is beneficial (if only marginally) for the yankees to be playing the 7 game series. Similarly, the redsox could have forced LA to get only 3 starts out of Lackey/Escobar which is a redsox gain that they did not grab. I dont think it really matters whether 38 pitches makes 2 starts or just one. Curt and Daisuke are both more or less the same this year. Both are crap shoots. Vlad is going to bring the monster don at fenway when he faces Schilling.
The previous post was addressed to Kurticus
Looks like this will be the broadcast team for the Yanks/Indians series I guess it oculd be worse
Stockton to join Chip Caray and Tony Gwynn in a three-man booth for Yankees-Indians
is it me, or does the fact that TBS is doing these games take away something from the series? I remember when TBS use to start shows 5 minutes past the hour. Very lame
Also, Shelley Duncan should or needs play against CC, IMO. The problem is that Matsui hurt and will probably DH. I don’t like the idea of Duncan at first base.
Burn bernie
You may want to call your cable company about the TBS HD it seems that so far Cablevision, Time Warner and Direct TV will be adding the TBS HD channel in time for the playoffs. Not sure about other cable operators
TBS blows. Sadly, I’m going to miss having ESPN call some of the games.
TBS is great for those of us who have basic cable. There’s something cool about Ted Turner building a crazy good baseball team and getting filthy rich off the cable station.
Gayle: Do what I do. I haven’t watched a Yankee game yet this year with the sound on — I push the mute button and listen to John and Suzyn.
LOL, I don’t have basic cable. I have AFN (Armed Forces Network). I just don’t like the commentators that TBS has. I’m going to miss making fun of Joe Morgan.
Remember a few months ago when the Mets were the “true team” that all shaved their heads and were in it together while the Yankees were a bunch of old stars whose egos were too large to fit in the clubhouse and a total make-over was needed.. eat it now suckas
I’m not making fun of basic cable. If I’ve offended anyone, my bad.
Just heard on local radio, Bronson Sardinha made the postseason roster. Are rosters with pitching staff out yet?
It is falling apart across the river!! I think Willie will leave, from what i’m hearing on the radio, it sounds like Willie was totally undermined (sp). The Latin players went over his head to cry to Omar if Willie scolded them.
Congrats to Bronson, I wonder who didn’t make it than? Maybe Wilson?
Jennifer: i think there was still room for Betemit. They said they were going with 11 pitchers, making room for another position player.
Bry Guy,
May be people will start to realize that shaving heads, growing facial hair and acting like monkeys in the dugout and on the mound will not accomplish anything. Except a few camera shots.
Watch and see if Roger Clemens and the Yanks produce their
own version of the “Bloody Sock Game” in the playoffs!
four games on sunday. Anyone know the times we are looking at?
I want Torre back. Do you think he brings back Willie?
I’ve seen the experts say that Girardi will manage before Donnie. Can you imagine Girardi with Willie as his bench coach? You’d see a lot of small ball with big bang!
Wouldn’t Clemens have the “Bloody Hammy,” not the bloody sock?
migames,
Times are being release at 4:00. Saw you on the chat. My alias was (Mo, LA). haha.
mel/mo
I loved how buster answered “I think most of the ESPN folks picked the Yankees. ”
ooops
he should have checked
migames,
I knew he wouldn’t post the rebuttal, but I said something like “Wasn’t talking about this series in particular, and even though ESPN talks about the Yankees alot, there’s a bias against them. (ahem Steve P.)
OOPs another mistake on espns part. You’d think they’d check the info before running their mouths.
Andrea-
You are going to love the ALCS…i was at game 7 when Aaron Boone hit the homer to beat Boston….it was the greatest moment of all the games I have been to at Yankee Stadium..the earth was actually shaking!!! You never know, maybe you’ll see the Yanks get some redemption from 2004!!!
What a lot of fun things happening today.
First off, our old friend Steve Phillips. So he admits that he was wrong about the Yankees this year, then lets it slip that the series may hinge on Clemens, who is “not up to it.” I guess he’s really in the “twilight of his career,” now, Steve. It’s great that he brings this up so we can compare him to another simply amazing GM, Dan Duquette. There is a reason neither one of these two has a serious job in baseball. Bozo.
Tom Gordon on Joba…thanks Tom, for your insight. Now can you provide us with some insight into your absolutely horrific postseason ERA? Phils win! Yay! Gordon closing in the post-season! Ummmmm…
Kyle Farnsworth heard his hip pop, yet is will likely be on the post-season roster. You can replace injured players on the post-season roster, but they cannot play again in the post-season, according to the new rules. We may have something here with Kyle which may actually benefit the team.
Finally, the Sox thought they were being cute by taking the 8 day series. Be careful what you wish for. I think the Sox actually beleive what ESPN says about the strength of their pitching. Suckers.
Yeah, WTF does Tom Gordon know about pitching in the show? Give me the insight of some random Yankee fan in Pittsburgh anyday.
Toledo (aka Philadelphia) Yankee Fan
Maybe having watched Tom blow a game or two in the 04 ALCS has left an indelible imprint on me which I can never erase.
Nice guy, great teammate, great in the regular season, but if you look at his stats, an absolute post-season disaster.
If you really were a serious Yankee fan, you would realize this.
Since you are likely a Philly troll, all I can say to you is good luck.
its a tie game, the yanks up for their last regulation game at bat. runner on base. who do you wish was the hitter, betemit, or miggy.
