History suggests Yankees off to ALCS

Peter Abraham
October
4

Since 1995, the Yanks are 5-0 in the ALDS when they lose the first game, and 2-5 when they win the first game.

So get off the roof.

Clemens should have pitched tonight and Wang in Game 3 at Yankee Stadium, where he has dominated.

  2. Bill from NJ

Of course, the whole hamstring thing, but Clemens threw great in his sessions, so…..

  3. tterb

WE WIN TOMORROW… ANDY ON THE MOUND… HAT DOWN… GAME OVER…

  4. TKinDC

    They had 8, count’em 8 2-out RBI tonight. Ouch. CLOSE’em DOWN!

Thank God for Andy P. – he’ll keep us in touch in the game.

  5. Bob Michaels

    Yanks in four.

  6. J-Dawg--Veintisiete en '07

A big key the last several years has been taking care of business at home. The last few postseasons the Yankees have been up and down at the Stadium. The perfect scenario is bouncing back for a split with Pettitte tomorrow, then holding serve at home to go to the ALCS. I know that the Yankees can do it!! :)

    The Bats will awake

What…your not gonna bag on A-rod in this Post ? Why don’t you tell us the Yankees’ Postseason total records with that A-Rod guy on the team ? I mean,,,it must be bad…and all the losses must be HIS fault and all the wins he had NOTHING to do with, either with his bat OR with his glove…right ? ( OK…I feel better now ) That being said…A-Rod comes up HUGE tomorrow and the Yankees head home with the split they need ! :-)

    amen, pete.

and thanks for giving us all a place to vent tonight, and throughout the season. my wife is largely indifferent to the yanks (thankfully, though, not to me) and most of my close friends are decidely not yanks fans, so having this community of empathy, argument, and manageable insanity is a real blessing.

  10. Toast

Pete, give everyone a break, OK? Yes, you’re right: There’s no need to panic. But for god’s sake it feels as if nothing has gone right for this club in the postseason since that collapse in 2004. Nothing. It’s just getting a little tired and fans are freaking out.

  11. wang's fan

I know yankees fans are upset about Wang, there is a huge depression under Taiwan’s sky now, we all feel bad for him and we know he let yankees fans down.

But i guess there is too much success for him to handle since he is here just as much failure he need to deal with, he will come up big in game 5.Let’s go Yankees.

  12. Rockin' Rich 27/07

Well, let’s look on the bright side: I got to watch new episodes of both CSI and L&O: Criminal Intent.

  13. little m

I’m with you, Peter – never been up on the roof (not even after 2004), and not going there now. Here’s to Andy being Andy and everyone else following suit. Over and out . . .

  14. UtilityMan

    Yes and Earl,The Office,30 Rock.

  15. Matt

As great as that sounds, it’s not good logic. They did well despite losing the first game because they were a great team that went on to win World Series. Losing the first game means they have to win three before losing two instead of winning two before losing three, it doesn’t give them magical come-from-behind powers.

  16. mike f

thank you matt, pete’s sarcasm sometimes is annoying

  17. Bob

Past results do not guarantee future performance. Of Course.

    That’s not the point.

The point is that at the end of the day, it’s one game. It’s not the end of the series if you lose game 1. If they go out and play like they are capable of they still have just as good a chance of winning this series as they did before tonight’s game.

And really, given the way this season has gone, did anyone think anything in this postseason would come easy and without stress?

See what happens tomorrow and then we’ll know if panic is really warranted.

  18. Matt

I’m not giving up on the team at all. They can still win. But that’s because they’re good and Cleveland’s #3 and 4 starters are shaky, not because it’s an advantage to lose the first game.

  19. Mike S.

The “2″ in the 2-5? Sweeps over Texas in 1998 and 1999.

  20. 07 AL East Champs

History points to: Good pitching wins; the Yankees dont have it; if you can manage to get to your pen prior to the 7th, the Yankees are toast. I suggest they get their tee-times scheduled now.

  22. donnienybaseball

Wang was up, the two out RBI’s killed us and the runners left on was just as bad…i’m moving on we have 7 lefty bats to face these three righties…bottom line we need to take this one tonight

  23. Claire

History means nothing except to remind us that it CAN be done. If the team bounces back tonight, it will show that they can be mentioned in the same breath as those other Yankee teams. Unfortunately, not many will remember unless they win. Guess that’s how we can tell the bandwagon jumpers from the fans who are true: we’re still here even when they fail. It only makes it sweeter when they win. BOTTOM LINE: we need a well-pitched game from Andy tonight.

  24. Jeter's Future Wife

dare I say that I hope Andy’s last start in Baltimore has absolutely nothing to do with the performance we’ll see tonite….I know he’s used to playoff pressure and all that, I can’t predict squat, but I just get so nervous, I can barely watch when things go arry, it’s too painful! I hope and pray (as I sit here with my rosary!) that Pettitte is on fire tonite! and for heaven’s sake, let Matsui keep bench warm, he can get that job done for sure!
