Unlike last season, the Yankees didn’t change much on the eve of Game 1.

Ross Ohlendorf and Jose Veras are in. This notebook also has news on Roger Clemens, Phil Hughes and others.

Here’s a position-by-position breakdown.

This is an amusing story. A woman in Westchester loves the Yankees and her fiance is an Indians fan. I say dump him.

I’m glad that Torre did not feel the need to change things like last year. There’s no need to change a winning formula at all. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!!

So, Pete, you’ve actually been working! I thought you were…what can you do in Clevland?

Mel- You can visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

I think Tim Kurtjan said it best. Basically he picked the Yankees to win it all this year, but at the same time he wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees get swept in the first round. I don’t think there is any other sport where each playoff team has a realistic chance of winning it all. It’s the greatness and tragedy (for those of us accustomed to winning) inherent in the season. I choose hope, let’s go YANKEES!

    J-Dawg,

Has Bruce Springsteen been inducted yet?

Trivia question, who’s been inducted the most times?

    Rebecca,
Please go back and read my last entry in the last thread.

  8. Sherri October 4th, 2007 at 11:25 am

    GO YANKEES!!!!!!

  9. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism! October 4th, 2007 at 11:31 am

  10. J-Dawg--Veintisiete en '07 October 4th, 2007 at 11:32 am

Mel- Yes, the Boss is in and so is my favorite band, Van Halen!! Don’t know the answer to the trivia question, though. I am stumped so far!

  11. DMan October 4th, 2007 at 11:36 am

    Whos been inducted the most?

I’d guess maybe the Beatles? The band itself and the solo acts?

  12. wood is good October 4th, 2007 at 11:37 am

    Isn’t it Eric Clapton?

    Yardbirds
    Cream
    solo artist

  13. mel October 4th, 2007 at 11:37 am

    J-dawg,

He’s English and has been inducted 3 times.

  14. mel October 4th, 2007 at 11:38 am

    wood IS good! lol

  15. Gayle October 4th, 2007 at 11:38 am

J Dawg – having been at last years induction ceremony that no was no induction lol. No David Lee Roth, no Eddie Van Halen performance was done by Sammy and the bass player and then Scott Wieland and his horrible band lol.

My guess for who has been inducted the most times would be Jimmy Page as a member of the Yardbirds and Led Zepplin???

I have a good feeling about this team right now. I very much like the WE aspect that has come about this year. Congratulations to Arod and co on the impending birth of child.

Ughhh, I wish it was 6:30 already. I can’t wait another minute!! I’m so anxious to get this thing started. Go Yankees!!!

  17. mel October 4th, 2007 at 11:43 am

    Gayle,

Check out the “State of the Yankees” video at the yankees.com

It’s easy to forget who got us here.

  18. saucy October 4th, 2007 at 11:43 am

Pete, i can’t believe you have these catchers scored as ‘even’. But the Yankees win in 4 is appreciated :)

  19. wood is good October 4th, 2007 at 11:46 am

And that was withOUT the use of Google!

I’m in that uncomfortable area between rooting for a sweep and hoping it goes to four games because I have a game 4 ticket. I haven’t been to the stadium since the last Sox game there (was away in Ireland most of September).I can’t tell you how much I miss being at the stadium. I go to approximately 4 to 6 games a month, so going to none in Sept. is major withdrawal for me….

    C’mon 6:30!!!

  20. mel October 4th, 2007 at 11:46 am

    saucy,

the cleveland rag had martinez over posada!

  21. J-Dawg--Veintisiete en '07 October 4th, 2007 at 11:47 am

Gayle- You can’t ever tell what EVH and company are going to do. Michael Anthony’s not even with them anymore, which is very strange. Eddie’s son Wolfgang is the new bass player. I give up on the trivia question.

  22. saucy October 4th, 2007 at 11:52 am

mel, i saw that link in the other thread and honestly, i have no problem with that. let people from cleveland think they have the edge at catcher. he probably had the best season for them as a position player that would hurt their fan’s feelings if he lost in the position by position matchups in their paper.

Pete on the other hand has no excuse

  23. Taylor October 4th, 2007 at 11:53 am

No offense, and I’d love it to be true, but you gave the Yankees and Mientkiewicz the edge at 1B over the Indians and Ryan Garko? Garko is a very good player. And who cares about playoff experience? What about Mientkiewicz’s 25 games when he hit .258/.292/.387 give him the edge? If anything, it shows that Mientkiecz has gotten worse in the postseason (although I do not think it means anything).

I’d love it to be true, but I think, when considering D, at best it’s even.

  24. CountryClub October 4th, 2007 at 11:58 am

I’m choosing to believe that the yanks will do enough to win tonight and then sweep the series. If they lose tonight it will probably go 5 because I have no real faith in Mussina. Bruce got into the Hall almost ten years ago. he’s also in the song writing hall of fame. I saw VH on Monday night in Philly and they put on a great show. Surprisingly, Dave’s voice sounded pretty good and Eddie was fantastic. This will hurt the purists, but Michael Anthony wasnt missed at all. The kid even filled in the background vocals admirably.

  25. FairfaxYankee October 4th, 2007 at 12:25 pm

Pete – Thanks for the breakdown. HOWEVER – how can you possibly dog Jeter? I don’t get to see every game so maybe is range is reduced and he hit into more DPs than usual but do you not recall the 3-run HR against Schilling? The 206 hits? The total lack of baserunning errors? Whoa nellie. Pete – your blog RULES but the anaylsis of Jeter is shcoking. That said, LETS GO YANKEES!!!!

  26. Andrea October 4th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

I’m actually pretty happy Pete pointed out Jeter’s slight blunders through the season. I think too many people give him a by because he’s Jeter. Thankfully, he IS Jeter so he makes up for those blunders with things like his 3 run HR against Schilling.
