Update on Mientkiewicz (now with audio)

Peter Abraham

Doug Mientkiewicz got off the team bus and was walking to the clubhouse when a camerman from YES stumbled and fell onto the back of his left leg.

“I rolled it pretty good,” he said. “I thought I was dead.”

His ankle has some swelling but Mientkiewicz did some agility drills before the game (see previous post) and was cleared to play. He will be in the lineup as scheduled.

Here is Doug talking about the incident:

If Steinbrenner were still running things, that cameraman would be banished.

  2. Phil - 27 in '07

But glad to see Minky is ok.

  3. DesignatedBlogger

Tell the guy to stay away from Jeter and ARod.

  4. Jack

that YES man is ASS man

  5. Lilly

    Damn new york paparazzi

  6. Dave

fire that man! If you look at jeters numbers against every single pitcher on the indians roster – he seems poises to have a HUGE series. Arod has good numbers against every one except carmona (1-7.) Damon and Abreu are hitting over 400 against Sabathia. Matsui and Mienky have hit Sabathia and Cano has never faced him.

  7. Alex

Wow, glad this didn’t end up injuring Doug too seriously, in contrast to the Shaq episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

  8. It's Game Time

Unbelievable. Who hired Baby Huey to shoot the game? The same person behind the Marty Miller fiasco?

  9. grafxkid

Glad to hear Minky is okay. whew!

  10. Gabriel

    ridiculous

  11. CountryClub

Dave, I think you have your numbers mixed up for the lefty’s vs Sabathia. Matsui is 0-9 and it doesnt get much better from there. Abreu is hitting .33 but that’s only in 3 at bats.

  12. Dave

indians 13 for 57 against wang (228) Yankes 38 for 120 (317) against Sabathia. The top four guys in our lineup all hit over 400 against him for their careers. The only problem is arod will most likely be pitched around because matsui has horrible numbers against him.

  13. Andrea

    Matsui is 0-9 against Sabathia.

  14. jennifer 27 in 07

Whoa I’d hate to be that Yes cameraman. Apologies for all the bad words I uttered towards the Cleveland camera men.

  15. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

    TOUGH ALL DAY strikes again!

  16. Andrea

no worries Dave: Posada is batting behind A-Rod now, not Matsui.

  17. BklynYank

    Alright show of hands…
Who thought right away that Shelly pushed the poor cameraman?

  18. keith

    Dave,

    what?

    matsui vs sabathia 0-9

    doug 5-22 .227

  19. Dave

    countryclub,

Abreu is 3 for 4 and damon is 6 for 14. Matsui is 0 for 9 and Posada is 3 for 13 but with 2 homers. Doug is 5 for 22. Arod and jeter have both crushed sabathia.

  20. keith

are there 2 daves or what?

    4:44 matsui hit sabathia

    4:46 matsui has horrible #

  21. Phil - 27 in '07

Dave, I was wondering…will Kennedy be used out of the bullpen tonight? LOL

  22. Sherri

Glad Doug is okay!! Tell the cameramen to stay at 5 paces back, please!!!

  23. Dave

I said our top four guys all have solid numbers against him- damon, jeter, abreu and arod. Matsui is 0 for 9

  24. Ryan

Can someone get a McDonalds or Burger Kind employee to follow around Captain Cheeseburger before the game?

  25. Dave

i meant matsui and mienky dont hit sabathia sorry

  26. Ryan

    *Burger King

  27. Dave

Arod may still get pitched around even with posada behind him but with two homers against him u know posada hits him well when he makes contact.

  28. Sherri

Pete, thanks for all the great information!!

  29. Yankees Chick

WHEW… I don’t know it my nerves could have handled a last-minute injury

  30. Dave

the indians have barely faced wang – its too difficult to predict anything from those numbers. And sabathia is a different pitcher these days. So really these stats mean little if anything.

  31. Andrea

A-Rod is still more likely to NOT get pitched around with Posada behind him than slumping, knee-drained Matsui.

  32. jennifer 27 in 07

Doug felt bad for him, said he thought he heard he got fired, he doesn’t want him to be fired. :(

  33. Dave

All the indians are batting 300 against farnsy and villone. we should just let chamberlain and mo pitch every relief inning – its much safer.

  34. Dave

yea i agree – I like posada behind arod more than injured matsui. Thas great that two of the nine guys ended the season in horrific slumps – melky and matsui.

  35. Dave

    josh fogg in relief?

  36. Dave

pete, can u post the indian lineup yet?

  37. Phil - 27 in '07

Is there more than one Dave on here?

  38. Dave

    just one very excited dave

  39. Yankees Chick

Dave – Pete posted the lineup yesterday… scroll down a bit and its here :)

  40. Dave

oh i didnt see that – thanks!

  41. jennifer 27 in 07

Don’t click engines link. He is a troll.

  42. Phil - 27 in '07

To the tune of “Let’s Go, Yankees”: “Reg-is-tra-tion”

  43. Rebecca--27 in 07! Nothing beats Optimism!

I’m not the only one that finds Fogg in relief a bit odd?

  44. migames

    and a racist

  45. Yankees Chick

    Rebecca… no, I think it’s strange too…

  46. Michael T

Imagine if that cameraman rolled ran into ARod instead, and put himout for the series. The city would come down on him so hard he’d wish he were Steve Bartman.

  47. Dan from Mass

I wonder how Minky reacted when it happened. I like how he said he “feels bad for the guy”. Very non-primadonna-ish.

  48. gayle

The best quote which I think really relfects where this team is niow is how he said that this is bigger than me and if he felt he could not play he would be upfront as what they are going for is bigger then him playing ion the g ame
