Steinbrenner thinks his bluster “motivates” HIS team. It’s the old football mentality. Just remember, Yankee fans, it’s HIS team first. We may pay for overpriced hot dogs, warm beer, and the outrageous other ways the “business” squeezes money out of us but we really have nothing to say when it comes to managing/running it.

My happy ending? The Yanks win the World Series and Joe Torre tells Georgie to find another manager. There will never be the like of Joe Torre again in pinstripes. Let’s see someone else hold the zoo together and get to the playoffs 12 years in a row. Oh yeah, and win 4 WS to boot!

No, of course not. But I guess I wasn’t clear in my post. I also wouldn’t want my dad running a multi billion dollar organization if he is not able to do this. If I don’t feel confident in him speaking to the media to defend his thoughts, I wouldn’t feel confident in him speaking to the media at all, including these disparaging comments. I may be very naive, but I can’t help but think that upper management has the ability to control the input/output of Stein’s mouth. If they didn’t want him to say what he did about Torre, it wouldn’t have gotten out.

We all know he helped resurrect this great franchise. There is no debating that. But he is a grown man in the entertainment sector and if he is well enough to cover his tracks, he needs to. If he isn’t and he has the capability to say dangerous things, then shame on his caretakers.

I appreciate the money George has given, and the patience (?) he has put in some of his players and managers. I appreciate what he did and continued to do for guys like Strawberry, it showed a human side. But making an publicly aimed message at the beloved leader of a team is irresponsible and against the “keep it within the team” attitude all of these players he has assembled believe in.

And I wasn’t suggesting you work for Steinbrenner, I was suggesting that Stein is a HUGE reason if not THE reason the Yanks are currently so successful/popular. If they weren’t so popular, there wouldn’t be 10 beat writers in NY covering them (or 11, or 12, whatever) and you might not have a job.

And we aren’t being “apoligists” The Boss doesn’t owe us anything. We owe him a big thank you for his support of the team and his desire not to use the Yanks as a vehicle for profit, but instead truly caring about their success and doing everything in his power to win the World Series.

The Boss has done more for this team than anyone appreciates…and it is not BLIND SUPPORT….I am making an informed decision that I think Pete and the rest of the NY Media thinks The Boss OWES THEM AN INTERVIEW….if you did not pick up in this post that Pete thinks The Boss OWES THEM AN INTERVIEW, than I can’t help you, friend. I, for one, 100% disagree with Pete. I have been around a loved one that was failing in his old age. They do NOT enjoy it, they do NOT want to admit it and it is sad. It is quite possible that The Boss and/or his family have decided not to be 100% truthful about George’s health. Think about it, if it were your father, would YOU want him subject to questions from reporters that felt ENTITLED to be putting YOUR DAD through that, no matter WHO he was in the public eye ?

If he is that bad, it would be best for the club and for himself to turn the organization completely over to Hal and the not so with it Tampa office. George can still criticize and critique, he’s earned that, but I fear his ability to make any decisions for now and the future if he is as bad as some of you say.

Show me, please, where he demanded that the Boss must talk. This comments section is quickly becoming full of people who if in San Francisco are blindly supportive of Barry Bonds.
