Okay. This Paul O'Neill chant debate is a little silly now. I heard it on TBS as well. Clearly it was a very local chant that was close enough to the TV mikes that it sounded more widespread than it actually was. Can we move on now?

_People were cheering for Tino because they kept showing him on the jumboscreen, but there was no Paul O’Neil chant that reached the left field side of the stadium._

i didn't hear it in right field either...

BBB:

Mattingly as Girardi's bench coach won't work. It would be tantamount to asking Joe to manage with a gun to his head, even more than any Yankee manager always does. Also, JG would be looking for a long term possibility. He's not going to keep the seat warm for two years. And I don't think DM wants to bench coach indefinitely.

whoa G. Love. swear to god man, honest.

on tv, u could distinctly hear a Paul O'Neill chant, somewhere in the middle innings. Why would anyone lie about that? I think its absurd, truely. But i'm telling you, there was definitely a short lived Paul O'Neill chant on the tv feed, maybe its just the way they mic the stadium, maybe you were away takin a leak, or maybe i heard it wrong, but at least to my ears, i heard it.

On a day like today, out of all the rumors that could be started, why would i start a rumor like that, what do i have to gain? maybe im wrong about what i thought i heard but ya gots ta chill.

hmmmmmm

There was no Paul O'Neil chant. Give it up already. You weren't there. Why would we lie?

There was a Tino chant when he was on the screen, a Reggie chant when he threw out the first pitch.

Every other chant was for a player or manager who was in the game.

Not once did the crowd rise up and chant "Paul O'neil" and whoever started that rumor is just full of it.

In my section on the left field line, I can hear all the chants from the bleachers and even across the field to the upper deck in RF. You see and hear everything. There was a fight late in the game in upper deck RF stands.

Strummerson, your words speak VOLUMES! They (media, other MLB fans like the Mariner one you spoke of) think we are all arrogant, spoiled, fair-weather fans. Such garbage.

If you were to put some well-written piece together like a petition or mission statement, (like the one you just did)I would be more than willing to sign it or contribute to it.

Do the media not see the pictures of the FANS outside of Yankee Stadium supporting their TEAM today? I guess not.

I can't wait until the day when Boston "fans" are viewed the same way. I thought it was deplorable how they overtook Angel Stadium on Sunday. I bet you 3/4 of those "fans" were not fans before 2004. But you never hear the media going on about other teams. Nope, it's just the Yankees.
