Very good post, SJ44.
Just because the Yankees heirarchy hasn't made any announcements to the info-hungry media does not mean that meaningful discussions haven't taken place.

"Anyone who has been involved in Corporation Meetings at a high level knows that George and Company are not operating at a professional level."

What in hell does THAT mean??? Have you been privy to the Yankee agenda???

How is it unprofessional? I would venture to say they are acting VERY professional.

Are the Yankees leaking anything to the media? Nope. Are anybody associated with the Yankees pimping their desired candidates to the media? Nope.

That would constitute unprofessional behavior. We are seeing none of that here.

Perhaps they should have done the following to appease some of you:

Fire Torre an hour after their ALDS loss because George, who is no longer running the Yankees (and hasn't for the past two years, despite all the statements and bellowing to the contrary), said he didn't THINK (which is what he said) they would re-hire him if they lost to the Indians.

The reasoning? George said it so, they have to do it.

Why hold meetings to talk about it? Just act off the cuff to appease people hungry for information.

They did what intelligent business people do in these situations. Let things settle down a bit, THEN hold meetings to discuss the future.

Nobody is being put out or compromised here. Especially Torre. He is still under contract to the Yankees until October 31.

Its a little more complicated than, "you either want him back or you don't".

What if there is a split within the organization about whether or not to bring him back?

What if there is a split in the organization as to what they want to pay Torre to bring him back?

What if there is a split in the organization as to how much longer they want Torre to manage IF they bring him back?

What if they believe Mattingly isn't ready to manage yet?

What if the Steinbrenner brothers want to hear from all involved parties in the organization before deciding what to do with Torre?

What if they are discussing whether or not Torre's presence will affect the signings of the present free agents on the team?

Today was the first day they had everybody in a decisionmaking capacity in the same room to discuss things.

Call me crazy but, its a helluva lot better (and more professional) to make decisions this way than to just do things at a whim, which this organization did for YEARS before 1992.

Whatever decision is reached, at least its safe to say they putting in a lot of thought and discussion about it. That's all you can ask.

I think to many of you listen to Mike and the Mad Dog. Just because tose two knowitalls say this makes the Yankees look silly doesn't make it so. How do we know that Torre doesn't already know his fate? How do we know the Yankees aren't giving him the opportunity to go out with dignity. i.e. resigning taking another position with the club etc... To call a group of businessmen who turned a 10 million dollar team into a 4 billion dollar asset, silly or stupid is just...silly and stupid...Why rush a decision that will impact the organization for years? There are a lot of things to ponder, like the sudden availibilty of Leo Mazzone, whom I would hire in a heartbeat, then place Eiland as BullPen coach and bring back the rest of the coaching staff sans Torre. hire Maz to be Bench coach and Donnie Baseball will have all the resources he needs around him to succeed. The doom and gloom after the loss to Cleveland was way to premature...How many teams in can you remember having three 22 year old arms like Joba,Hughes and Kennedy? Throw in the 5 studs recovering from Tommy John surgery and Horne,Ohlendorf,Robertson,Clippard,Marquez all ready for call-ups next season and the team will be making RedSox nation groan for years to come.
