Two meetings were held in Tampa
Latest word from Tampa:
There were apparently two sets of meetings. The first consisted of Brian Cashman and the New York-based execs with the Steinbrenner sons.
Then the sons and son-in-law Felix Lopez met with Big Stein at his mansion. No word on whether the whole crew will assemble today.
Meanwhile, a television network from Taiwan interviewed me on the matter. I have no idea what this says but hopefully it’s good.

I don’t usually mind the antics of Manny Ramirez. He’s harmless for the most part and he really works at what he does. But there is no reason to pose at the plate when you homer and your team is still down by four runs in a playoff game.
Run the bases. Pimping at that time makes you look silly. But good for Cleveland for not hitting him in the eighth inning. The best revenge is winning the game.
A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila on MTV will get better ratings than Rockies-Indians in the Series. Fox must be horrified. Somebody better tell Dane Cook how to pronounce Yorvit Torrealba.
Finally, what is up with people who rip me in the comments section but put a fake e-mail address so I can’t reply? Rip away, I can take it. But man up and don’t hide.

‘Man Up’ is the best phrase ever.
Did you intentionally misspell Torrealba? If no…. irony.
I feel “Torreabla” is more of a typo than misspelling. Not really irony so much as Pete having a busy day.
Pete,
You’re so funny. Torreabla?
You’re also big-time now, so you need to get a thicker skin. The people who come here and rip you have no class. It’s rude to insult someone in their own house and they continually do it to get a rise out of you.
I think the World Series will get more viewers than people think.
And yes, ‘man up’ is a great phrase.
Hey Pete
Don’t let the bastards get you down. This is a great blog. And I don’t like blogs
man up is cool, cowboy up is gay and not in the hot man on man action way but in the sissy way
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRijR9bdmPc
Forget Tila Tequila. I would watch A Shot of Love with Yorvit Torrealba over a Cleveland-Colorado WS.
Dane Cook sucks. How many of his movies have to bomb before we can file him in the “Joe Piscipo” department. Actually, that’s unfair to Joe – he was actually funny for a little while. Dane Cook is more like the Pauly Shore of this decade.
I’m happy for Shapiro and the Indians, but did you guys hear his comment about the silence at Yankee stadium during that Game 4? “It’s as satisfying as applause in any other place,” general manager Mark Shapiro said. Maybe I’m the thin-skinned one!
I don’t know Pete, you’re a pretty physically imposing dude. I wouldn’t want to spar with you in the dark alleys of cyberspace. You and Tyler “Durden” Kepner: man, that’s one formidable tag team. Right up there with the old Samoan Brothers and Mr Fuji and Mr. Saito.
Then again, maybe they’re cowards or Steinbrenner stooges, if that isn’t redundant.
I will never understand why Manny doesn’t get hit more. Every single homer he hits he stares at. If I were a pitcher in the majors I’d nail him
Everytime they show replays of Manny doing his celebration in game 2 of the ALDSstanding right there in the batter’s box for about one hour I got to cringe.
Indians-Rockies WS? Could be great. Great teams who play great at every aspect of the game.
If I were Kenny Lofton, I would have thrown the ball at Manny after I caught that fly out.
I’m gonna watch the Cleveland/Colorado world series. Either team winning would be okay with me. Cleveland never wins anything in any sport and had to watch the Ravens win the Super Bowl a few years after leaving so ill root for them. But the Rockies have been so bad for the entire history that if they won I wont hate on them. I think the Rockie fans think they already won by the way they celebrated so
Go Indians
Dane Cook is o.k. But he, Affleck, Wahlberg, and the other Boston celeb fans irritate me. Especially Wahlberg, who would openly express his hate for the Yankees on radio. I don’t see too many Yankee celeb fans being that obnoxious, openly hating on Boston.
Good for Girardi for calling out Manny, “That homerun was meaningless”.
C.C. needs to step up big time. He’s been putrid in the post.
I’m sleeping like a baby tonight now that those PUNK red sox losers are almost done. Let’s hope that Cleveland now has what it takes and the GUTS to close it out in CLE.
Pete, don’t worry about those anonymous posters. You’re doing a great job and this blog is awesome.
P.s. Hoping for a 2 year (1 year plus a mutual option) for Mr. Torre. -:)
Yeah, That’s okay, Mark Shapiro. I just caught a glimpse of your wife. You know the one that looks like she had four face lifts and poured her hair color out of a Loreal bottle.
Peter:
Basically, that link said is that Torre’s fate undecided, and the team’s fature
Also has two quotes from you, try to translate it, but it could not exactly what you used…
“Last week,Torre said that he’s still adequate to the job”
–on Torre
“This is also the problem, nobody knows that his sons are capable of this job or not”– on that who will be the boss in control of Yankees…
Cook is even worse than Kornheiser doing football. The ratings will stink, but at least it can be an entertaining series. Now finish the job Tribe!
nah…NOBODY EVER HITS MANNY…why is that anyway ? does he have a free pass from da commish to be an @$$ ? For my money, and it’s not much, the next time he comes up he gets one in the ear…..
Don’t worry Pete, it’s good. Basically what grace said.
i recall some people mentioning on this blog that no one was paying attention to the rockies because they were “simply, the rockies”. now they are simply the NL Champions. enjoy your crow.
OT i know but they had Girardi on the Fox postgame – first thing he did was call out Manny on his BS showboating with his team down by 4 runs, facing a 3-1 hole in the ALCS. Goddam right Joe, it almost seemed like the other hacks up at the fox desk were a bit taken aback by his tenacity. Joe gave him props as one of the best hitters he’s ever seen, but lamented it wasn’t the time or the place, thank god someone has the cojones to call him out on that. Seriously, how can other guys on the sox not have a bone to pick with Manny after sitting for the last month and a half of the reg season and then acting like that tonight, simply awful.
At this point i’m pullin for Cleveland, the team that beat the Yanks winning the WS sorta makes you feel a bit better – i think the 9 days off is gonna spoil the Rockies mojo, and the Indians have a clearly superior pitching rotation. This is an underdog October for sure… but i’ll take Indians / Rockies over DBacks / Redsox any day of the week!
i rather watch cop rocks than the w.s….but then again, i was a huge fan of cop rocks
Well, till this year they _were_ quite simply, the Rockies.
I bet that in 2002, everyone was saying that the Nets were _quite simply_ the Nets….and then they won the Eastern Conference. (Okay, that’s not saying much, but still!)
Lopez
I used the power of the Internet to translate that Taiwanese article:
Reporter Li Rui – chia, Tangweicha / New York reports
Wang Yankees pay the staff outstanding again, and so on
For years in a row Yankees did not get the World Series champion this year is out early in the playoffs, after the news came out there, the Yankees will replace head coach, even the big bosses are the team to consider retirement, let his son who took over the management. But after a few hours of meetings, still without result. The future direction of the team, the New York media a while also caused speculation.
Since the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs was eliminated, coach seat has been a manager the focus of media attention. According to understand, is the major league manager, with a maximum salary of the coach, in his lead, the Yankees won 11 consecutive AL East champion, but the big boss is clearly more concerned with the Yankees for seven consecutive years, not the World Series champions. Over the past 12 years, the Yankees good or bad, but also high-level team dare not make hasty decisions his stay problems.
Yankees columnist Abraham said, “Torre said last week that he would still be able to feel that they qualify him for this work.” Despite this, but if the Yankees left the Yankees, the highest voice successors, is the incumbent bench coach.
Yankees columnist Abraham said that if the final decision is not Yankees coach, it should be a believer, he was the last Yankees bench coach for the Yankees played the ball 14, has also done a four-year coach, he really understand the operation of the Yankees, was also the boss of the trust Yankees .
In addition, the 77-year-old senior citizens because of health factors Yankees boss, prepared to let his two sons take over, but the media also pointed out that the two sons were not the experience of the management team, now has been prepared to be successor, nobody knows.
Yankees columnist Abraham said, “This is the crux of the problem, no one knows his son were in the end that okay.”
Yankees management team big wind, but dust is undetermined, the head coach of Rangers, is it rekindled ray of hope, or yet another sleepless night? Some also can only see the result after the meeting. As for the Taiwan media are most concerned about Wang’s salary, the Yankees may have to wait until the head coach of the personnel identified, will have further news.
Cowards, the whole lot of them! GO Rockies!
Pete, go to Steinbrenners mansion and ask to be put up for a night in the guest room.
I agree with Mel, the best thing about watching the Sox lose is the reactions of their fans. Affleck is obnoxious, but for some unknown reason, Stephen King infuriates me.
Nice of Joe to call out Manny, endlessly admiring his futile solo shot. I also really enjoy watching Paul Byrd with his “old school” delivery.
Hey Pete, I too translated some of your quotes from the Taiwanese article, and loosely translated you said “Go Rockies!”.
Cleveland – Colorado World Series in the snow. Does it get any better? Oh yes, the Red Sox getting axed on Thursday night with their ace on the hill.
Peter,
I’ve ripped you plenty of times and you’ve never sent me an email. Let me take another crack at it:
It’s ridiculous for you to claim the Yankees brass is over-inflating the managerial situation by being so alone would suggest that the situation rivals the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Your last post, just like the one where you complained about Steinbrenner not talking to reporters before game 3, came across as whining because you weren’t able to get quotes.
great stuff at this hour Pete, why is this guy Felix so involved in everything
Yanks in … I mean Tribe in 5
Well that was messed up. I meant to say:
It’s ridiculous for you to claim the Yankees brass is over-inflating the managerial situation by being so secretive about it. The media coverage alone would suggest that the situation rivals the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Your last post, just like the one where you complained about Steinbrenner not talking to reporters before game 3, came across as whining because you weren’t able to get quotes.
So if the Yankees lose 3-1 in a 5 game playoff series to the Indians and the BoSux lose 4-1 in a 7 game playoff series, if a tree falls in the forest…I mean..who really cares ? Neither team made it to the Series ! Although, I think Joe Torre is the best man for the job…he REALLY needs to be pulled aside and told that he needs to turn over the reigns on pitching decisions to someone else…ANYONE ELSE…it is his only real flaw, IMO..but it IS a big one…
You suck Pete. LOL! J/K. Anyway, I’ve been saying this for days, if Torre has lasted this long I cant see them firing him. Maybe they still will but then the Yankees are just being ridiculous. Thats classless to do it now. Either you do it right away or you keep it going. Know what I mean?
Pete, do you think it is just coincidence that a decision on Torre has waited until the Clvd/Bos series has played out a bit?
Manny geez. Everyone states that he is a great hitter, and I will admit that. However, it is so hard to respect the guy when he Cadillacs a solo HR, and your TEAM is down 4.
It is bad timing on the league’s part that this is the year that the World Series is pushed back for a few days. A Colorado/Cleveland World Series equals some very cold and nasty weather! This would be the first important showdown between teams from Denver and Cleveland since the two AFC Championship games in the late ’80s, both won by the Broncos. Two cities whose paths haven’t crossed much in crunch time.
Pete’s readers are allowed to disagree with him and express that on his blog, but he’s also allowed to express his distaste with them. Nothing wrong with that. I don’t think what he’s doing is self-pity, really, so much as him venting. I think a lot of people forget that this is a blog sometimes. It does allow for the inclusion of opinion.
Manny is a punk
Manny is ridiculous. The guy stands there every time he hits a home run and expects the world to love him for it. Seriously, how classless can you be. Shouldn’t somebody in that locker room tell him to shut it and just do his trot around the bases. How does he not get more crap for this. How does the sporting world just allow it to happen and cop out behind the “Manny Being Manny” crap. I’m sorry, if that was A-Rod, it would be headline news and fans all over the country would be calling for his head. Though I doubt it would ever happen, I think someone in that clubhouse should really tell him to just shut it. That heinous C on Varitek’s jersey should stand for something. If you are going to call yourself the captain, take control of your team.
You know I’d complain about Manny but if Pitchers and opposing teams are just going to let him do it, more power to him.
Manny needs to be drilled in the head for gods sake
I’ve criticized you on several occasions and my e-mail address is valid, yet I have no received no e-mails.
Also, anyone who hasn’t seen it, check out nomass today, the video of Pedroia slapping the ball at first base is priceless. Can’t wait to show it to my friends who are Red Sox fans. They ripped A Rod apart for his ball slapping incident in 04. I bet they’ll have a different opinion of Pedroia’s slap.
Pete, you look great in ET TV network and share the view about Don as successor of Torre.
Everying should be clear soon. Yankees are ready to surge.
Pete I agree about Manny. If a yankee would ever do that(showy display) pompus crap the media would use it for fodder.
With beantown, down 3-1 all the analyst are comparing it to their 2004 alcds come back. HELLO, this is not the same 2004 team. Quite frankly they only have one half way reliable pitcher. Josh is the only one on that pitching rotation that has made it 6 innings, the other 3(mo, shimp larry) have all gone 4.2. This bull pen “imploded” in postseason, after barely holding on to the division win.$103million,4.2 innings pitched=Hahahaha! Beantown won’t be” buying a championship “this season,Bye Bye.
I personally found it exqusite that Tommy “knuckles” got lit up in the 5th and knocked out of the game .The camera shots of Tito up and not sitting on his hands, the faces of their players when the 36min inning kept going, youkilis dropping the foul ball out of his glove, shots of Theo face in dismay at his team ineptness ….Priceless!
Beantown may have “DeJa VU” But this Cleveland team is patient and hungry.
Peter stand up like you got a” pair” and call these people out on the blog. Be like Mr T “Pity the fool” that called you out and ran like a CHICKEN!!!
Don’t know why people are ripping you. I would just ignore them. I am a big Yankee fan and read many blogs, your blog is one of the best.
The real question is do we live in a time of society where everyone has to be nice or your a villain. I mean back in the 60′s, and I’m surprised that McCarver didn’t say anything since he caught Gibson, someone like Gibson would have planted one right in his ear in the next at bat on the first pitch and everyone in the stadium, dugouts, and MLB front offices would know it was coming.
If guys like Man-Ram are going to pimp a homerun, when their team is down by four runs none the less, then baseball should be thought of as a joke. There needs to be policing in the game by the players so that guys like Man-Ram do not disrespect the game like that. I challenge any Sawx fan to step up and say that that display last night was anything but disrespecting the game. I wonder how his teammates feel when they look at him in the clubhouse after watching that replay over and over again today. And if I recall, someone named Josh Beckett, in spring training no less, was jawing at some player, I don’t remember who, but saying that he will take things into own hands to make sure the game is played right. How does he even look his own teammate in the face?
The way I look at it, there should be two teams now that owe him a high and tight one next year, the Angels and Indians, unless the Indians take matters into their own hands in this series.
Don’t get me wrong Manny is a great hitter, but that was a joke and I don’t care what team you play for, even the Yankees, things like that don’t belong in the game. If I remeber correctly, Raul Mondise was called out by Torre in TB for watching a homer a little to long back in the day.
Baseball is a continuous game. They can plunk Manny in May of next year.
Why wake a dead team and threaten the momentum you have built up?
Long memories is what it is about.
I find it hilarious that people take time out of their days to come here and bash Pete.
Screams of jealousy.
“Yeah, That’s okay, Mark Shapiro. I just caught a glimpse of your wife. You know the one that looks like she had four face lifts and poured her hair color out of a Loreal bottle.”
why are we picking on Mark Shapiro’s wife?
Peter Rabbit – thanks for the hilarious translation. I particularly like the way it summed up:
“Yankees management team big wind, but dust is undetermined, the head coach of Rangers, is it rekindled ray of hope, or yet another sleepless night?”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Two outs, nobody on, bottom of the eight and Manny steps to the plate after that hands in the air pose and slow trot toward first. Oh what to do? I say bring in your hardest thrower and put him on his egotistacal A**.
Peter,
I think you are totally right for calling out the bloggers out on the carpet that don’t put their e-mail address for you to reply. I for one, agree with most everything you say, esp today about Manny….that is, I guess, Manny being Manny or Manny being stupid.
Can’t wait to see more about what the Yanks do about A-Rod, more so than Torre.
i guess i’m just used to manny posing by now. at this point, i’d be really shocked if he busted out of the box…
Pete,
“Consider the source.”
Great Blog, always a treat to stop in.
I can read chinese but don’t usually read chinese news site…I followed Pete’s link and read this taiwanese site for the first time and was surprised/amused that in a couple articles, they said something to the effect of “Wang’s performance in the post-season was not as good as expected, but according to league experts he will still maintain his position as Yankees’ ace…” Delusional much?
_Also, anyone who hasn’t seen it, check out nomass today, the video of Pedroia slapping the ball at first base is priceless. Can’t wait to show it to my friends who are Red Sox fans. They ripped A Rod apart for his ball slapping incident in 04. I bet they’ll have a different opinion of Pedroia’s slap._
i noticed that last night. glad someone else caught that.
Dee:
Don’t ever bother again. I’m Taiwanese and even I don’t read the sports section in the newspaper when the Yankees are involved.
I really love my country, but after witnessing all the reactions toward Wang’s performance in the playoffs, I must say our people have NO sense of PRIDE and HUMILIATION. NONE.
I ask this, if other teams should be so mad that they should hit Manny, why haven’t the Yankees done it. We all know he creams Yankee pitching.
A-Rod stares at his blasts, so does Giambi. All the big sluggers do it whether they are winning or losing at the time. Is it right that they do this? Frankly, I don’t care.
For Yankee fans to sit here and complain about it when Shelly Duncan gets all giddy and gets a curtain call and Damon has a choreographed handshake in the batters box after hitting a homer in the playoffs seems quite silly.
Tell me, how many of you complain about your favorite Giant or Jet giving an emphatic “First Down” signal while they are losing?
Now, the Sox having a guy imitating Alex “McSlappy” Rodriguez is classic.
IMO, there is a difference in looking at the ball leave the park and one with the guy putting his arms in the air and standing there.
I wish the TV stations would treat “Hammy” Ramirez’s grandstanding the way they do with the streakers — DON’T SHOW IT!
I’d also like to add how the media loves to remind us that Manny is just being Manny. I swear, if I hear that one more time, I’m gonna scream.
They give him a pass for everything. When he was late to Spring Training and then having a terrible season, they all say, well “he works so hard, blah blah blah.”
Quit making excuses for the guy.
There is a few ways of looking at what Manny did.
1) It was Manny being Manny. He is a cartoon character that truly represents Red Sox nation.
2) Manny was personifying the shift in momentum (3 homers in 3 at bats) that was defecting to the visiting team dugout. God, that thought made me (and all rad sox haters/laughers) sick.
3) Manny was trying to stick it to the Cleveland fans and a franchise which chased him out of town.
There is some good that can come of this. I suggest the tribe not start their best pitcher but instead have him in the bullpen. Then stick it into the cranial canal of Veritek or big poopy. This results in an ejection of said Thrower replaced by CC. It also prevents Beckett from retaliating or throwing inside. This shows Beckett as a puss who doesn’t defend his fellow red slobs or an idiot for getting thrown out of the game. A no win situation.
Mac,
You got that right – he is a cartoon character; complete with uniform at least two sizes too big. What a maroon.
Manny is Manny. Love him or hate him. I personally thought it was funny but it’s more because I hate the Tribe.
Pete you write a great blog….you keep it real and I am so glad that I found this on the net. Keep it up brother.
