Pete,

Although I think he could be a very good "game" manager, I also have concerns about Girardi's potential mishandling
of our young pitchers. Do you have an opinion about this?

It's not just about the man's resume. It's also about PR and the Yanks hiring a big name to make up for the Torre flub.

Not to mention they want to keep Mo, Jorge, Pettitte, and A-Rod and Donnie Baseball might be their best chance to make that happen.

There is no way they want to tear this team apart with that payroll and it could happen if those guys leave.

Also, Pete is right about Mattingly coming in a few years ago to eventually become the Yankee manager.

The writing has been on the wall for a few years.

As I said before, if Pena doesn't get a job elsewhere, I bet he becomes the new bench coach under Mattingly.

That's so ridiculous.

Bobby Valentine nor Trey Hillman never had a shot at the job either.

Don't look for reasons to throw down the race card because it makes you look simple-minded.

I don't buy into this Girardi is going to come in with a set of strict rules.

What rules Girardi could impose on the team that the Yankees don't already impose on them. No beards or long hair is already in place as well as the dress code.

What else can he do to them? Bed checks, lol?

Seriously, I don't think he's going to be cleat length and outlawing laugher in the clubhouse.

I think he's the man for the job. The toughness that embodied him as a player will become the image of his team. It's inevitable. His voice and approach to the game and how he views it will be seen.

I love Donnie like everyone. I used to cut high school to go to day games just to watch him play. But he's going to be more laid back than Torre and I think he's going to think he needs to stay/look calm all the time since that was Torre's schtick.

Joe Girardi is the right next step for this team. I hope he gets the chance and the best guy wins out over sentimentality.
