"He could answer the question. Roger did. He said he wants to go in as a Yankee. Joe could answer, while that doesn’t mean they would listen to him he could answer!"

Well, clemens makes complete sense going in as a yankee. Torre, however, has some class.

Torre has run the full gamut of tear jerking and now reality sets in. He'd better stop making appearances for money or he risks looking like a greedy Scott Boras.

Torre needs to realize that NOBODY is bigger than the New York Yankees. Not George Steinbrenner, or Babe Ruth, and certainly not Joe Torre. All a contributing part of team history and no more.

As I recall, when Torre signed hi $19.5 Mil 3 -year extension as manager in 2004, there was also mentioned that he would be retained for up to 6 years as a consultant in the Yankee organization. Just curious, Was that agreement altered?
Obviously, neither party is likely interested in pursuing that opion now!

For my money Mattingly gave some rather vague and shallow answers to questions put forth by the media in his conference. A good hitting coach he his. A managerial candidate is questionable.

I respect Joe Torre and his decision but he really needs to stop talking now. Just stop. If he brings this bitter parade to letterman next week it's not gonna go over well.
