Peter ask Donnie if he was ever intimidated by the prowess of Balboni's mustache.

Jennifer there was nothing defeatist about Donnie's comment on following Joe, he was being complimentary by comparing Joe to the greatest college basketball coach ever. I disagree with the comparison, but Donnie was being a nice hoosier.

I think if we ask what we need to give up for Santana, the twins will want one of Hughes or Chamberlain and Kennedy or wang along with prospects. They will ask for far more than we are willing to give like they did with Gagne.

Laura- Just be glad that Phillips isn't working for Fox. Otherwise he could be in their World Series booth with McCarver. Yikes.

nathan(nyc) yeah saw it. but don't fall for the propaganda machine. the tampa group is working overtime on damage control.did you see the NY Times piece about Hank? think about it - is anyone's deal before the season going to be the same deal after the season? nope - it could be better, it could be worse. plus, we'll never know what joe was willing to take because according to both him and cashman, and never denied, there was no negotiating. the "incentives" deal was it. and joe says it was the incentives that did it for him. no reason to think he was lying.
we just have think positive now and hope for a good decision on the new manager.

Pena is best served as a 1st base coach :)

Didn't he have a suspicious ending to his managerial career in KC?

Brian in CT, you know what he did in KC w/ that team ? How is he not a strong candidate

he led the Royals to 1st place up to August in the AL, There best OFF bats were Beltran 100 RBI, Sweeney 83 RBI and Ibanez 90 RBI

one of the weakest combos in the AL in 2003, 10 wins by Darrel May was the high for KC starters. Oh and the closing tandem of Grimsley & McDougal had 27 saves between them. Tony Pena led that team to 83 wins, IMO he better be a strong candidate :D

"Steve Phillips is an idiot. He said on today’s Baseball Today Podcast that NY wasn’t the best place for A-Rod to play."

Of course it's the best place for ARod - tons of strip joints here.

The Yankees are fine. I think any new manager will add a freshness to the team- and that's all this team really need.

Any significant trades I think would not be in the favor of the yankees either. Unless the team average age gets younger with a trade, I think the yankees should not trade.

Wang, Pettitte, Hughes, Joba, Kennedy. That's a rotation built for the future- ofcourse pettitte is the anchoring veteran to give stability and wang is a future veteran. Bullpen can be figured out - hopefully they pay Mo to come back.

Maybe we can see more Shelly Duncan next year? Positional players are set. They pay posada to come back. Arod back. jeter, cano ofcourse. Melky for outfield.

The Yankees just need a whip behind them telling them to not suck so much in the postseason, ie a new manager!

I'm with SJ 44 in pursuing 30 year old Aaron Rowand in the event Melky Cabrera were to be involved in a Santana deal.
Aside of being a good clubhouse presence, he would be the best pure CF the Yankees have seen in years. The spacious CF at the Stadium and other venues would be his domain and a neat righthanded bat to match. He could keep the position in check until Austin Jackson shows he's ready.

As an aside, Steve Phillips is an idiot. He said on today's Baseball Today Podcast that NY wasn't the best place for A-Rod to play. Really? Yeah, that A-Rod is really suffering in that NY atmosphere. I mean, he only had 54 HRs and 156 RBIs. What a slacker!!!

I can't stand SP and I wish he would keep his trap shut because he doesn't know what the heck he is talking about. A-Rod has proven that he can play in NY....during the regular season. The Postseason? Well, he's going to work on that. : )
