Brian Cashman said via e-mail that he would stay in Tampa tomorrow to meet with the Steinbrenners. It is expected a decision will be reached then.

“We’re very impressed with all three candidates,â€? Hank Steinbrenner said. “I told you it would be a tough decision.”

  6. Yanksin08 October 24th, 2007 at 9:10 pm

  7. Dr. Acula October 24th, 2007 at 9:10 pm

Way to upstage the World Series!!!

    Woo Hoo!

Buster Olney says Girardi has the edge and he’s well connected.

    Peter! At what time?

Some of us have to make time in our schedules.

  8. #9 October 24th, 2007 at 9:11 pm

My guess is that they will hire Randy Levine as manager.

  9. Viking Coach October 24th, 2007 at 9:12 pm

    Peter,
Who do you think it will be? Who do you think it should be?

  10. Sherri October 24th, 2007 at 9:12 pm

    Randy Levine :P

  11. Rebecca--Nothing Beats Optimism October 24th, 2007 at 9:12 pm

Dr. A–Sometime between 10.30 AM and 2.30 PM when I’m in or making my way to or from class!

Because this is the way my life works!

  12. migames October 24th, 2007 at 9:13 pm

as for those rumors that buck showalter was one of the candidates, who made that up, the media or did the yankees actually consider him?

  13. Dr. Acula October 24th, 2007 at 9:14 pm

it’s like X-mas eve and I’m shaking the box

  14. Dr. Acula October 24th, 2007 at 9:15 pm

_My guess is that they will hire Randy Levine as manager._

Do they make Yankee uniforms in his size??

  15. Rebecca--Nothing Beats Optimism October 24th, 2007 at 9:16 pm

    Probably not.

  16. jennifer October 24th, 2007 at 9:16 pm

Damn now i’m not going to work at all. (just kidding). But my radio will be tuned to a sports station and Petes blog awaiting the decision. Any idea what time the decision will be made?

  17. Big Joe October 24th, 2007 at 9:17 pm

DR. A Uniform for Randy not a problem…just a huge pair of pants should be fine for such a big ass!

  18. jennifer October 24th, 2007 at 9:18 pm

Have a friend send you a text.

  19. Sherri October 24th, 2007 at 9:19 pm

    Big Joe – Perfect!!!!!

GO ROCKIES!! Gawd, I hate Beckett…….

  20. murphydog October 24th, 2007 at 9:19 pm

    Dr. Acula:

    Interesting… Baby Huey in pinstripes.

  21. Dr. Acula October 24th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

    LOL!

  22. Big Joe October 24th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

I hate beckett too…but man did I want the Yanks to go get him when they were selling the farm in Miami.

  23. Peter Abraham October 24th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

There will be no official announcement tomorrow. That probably comes Friday. But somebody will find out.

  24. EricVA October 24th, 2007 at 9:23 pm

Just because they make the decision tomorrow doesn’t mean we’ll know tomorrow. Decision, then contract negotiations, etc. Maybe the meetings will leak (probably) but I’m guessing no official decision until Friday.

  25. EricVA October 24th, 2007 at 9:23 pm

Damn Pete, way to post exactly what I post a minute earlier. If it had been the other way around, I would’ve looked so smart!

  26. Dr. Acula October 24th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

Okay, I just reread the post.

Decision tomorrow in Tampa. Which means the Announcement will probably come Friday NYC.

  27. Master Wangkee October 24th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

    Girardi’s the frontrunner.

  28. jennifer October 24th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

It will leak, someone will find out and announce it.

  29. Dr. Acula October 24th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

    Hmmmm..

I wonder who this “somebody” might be?

  30. JonMichel October 24th, 2007 at 9:26 pm

Just wondering did Don go backn to Indiana after his interview. And isn’t Joe still in Florida at the moment.

  31. Dan C October 24th, 2007 at 9:26 pm

Well they obviously won’t go with Randy Levine…what about Steve Swindall??

  32. jennifer October 24th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Pete posted in a previous entry that Joe is in NYC for an ALS event. HMMMM Makes it very convient to travel up to da Bronx. :P

  33. ND Yank October 24th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

Mattingly is the man. Olney’s personal preference on who he thought should be the manager is Girardi, not who he’s heard it would be.

  34. ghlu October 24th, 2007 at 9:30 pm

It’ll most likely be Mattingly and Pena as the bench coach.

  35. Big Joe October 24th, 2007 at 9:30 pm

They’ll find swindall at a bar trying to find the keys the Barkeep hid!

I am from tampa…met steve and was not surprised at all at what happened…a first rate tool.

  36. hmmmm October 24th, 2007 at 9:30 pm

My cousin was one of the guys who worked for the caterers at the meetings and said he overheard them say Mattingly was the front runner.

  37. Phil - 27 in '08 October 24th, 2007 at 9:31 pm

I’d love to be a fly on the wall of tomorrow’s meetings.

  38. Don Capone (DesignatedBlogger) October 24th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

I’m thinking the Tampa Trio is gonna pull a George and TORRE will be named manager!!

    Really, probably Mattingly.

  39. Anthony_CA October 24th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

Come on Girardi! He’s our man.

  40. Todd October 24th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

    Girardi is the guy

  41. Col October 24th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

Anyone of those 3…I think they are all terrific.

They really just need to pick one of those 3 so they can start negotiating to get AROD, Posada, and Mo back.

And make sure Pettitte is happy and comes back another year…Hopefully Clemens stays retired this year though.

  42. whoa October 24th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

I expect Peter to scoop his colleagues on the choice.

  44. whoa October 24th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

If Clemens doesn’t retire, how much money could he expect?

My guess is no more than $5 million, which is a ton to me, but still a major paycut

  45. Brendon October 24th, 2007 at 10:05 pm

    I like Tony Pena
    1) When he managed the Royals his teams batting average was better than marlins (girardi)
    2) He runs more than girardi
    3) Latin American players could interact with him.

Either way i’m happy with giardi or pena but i like pena slightly better.

  46. CaptainsCorner October 24th, 2007 at 10:28 pm

We know whoever Bill Madden picks in the newspaper tomorrow it will be the other person. The Yanks will have to announce it on Fri. or it wouldnt even be a big deal because by tomorrow every newspaper and website is going to have sources say, this offical said they picked….and we will know then.

  47. hmmm October 25th, 2007 at 8:48 am

OMG, i can’t believe Steinbrenner said he was IMPRESSED with ALL THREE candidates!! what a waffling bafoon!! here come the 1980′s all over again!!!

  48. hmmm October 25th, 2007 at 8:49 am

    “hmmmm

impersonators. awesome. i have finally arrived.

  49. SJ44 October 25th, 2007 at 10:33 am

    Dr. Acula,

They can give Levine Boomer Wells’ old uniform. It should fit.

If not, then give him Cecil Fielder’s from ’96. If they don’t fit, then he needs to get the NutriSystem # from John Kruk.
