A lot of what is written and said over the next few days will be speculation and interpretation without much justification …
(I sound like Rev. Jesse Jackson there, but I digress)
… But I found this quote from Hank Steinbrenner to be interesting:
“I think from the start, the guy I was leaning towards and the guy (Cashman) was leaning towards, that’s the same guy.”
Hmm, that sounds to me like one Donald Arthur Mattingly. Little Stein has said a lot of nice things about D. Baseball these last few days, too.
Just a guess until better information becomes available.

Pete,
Has Cash ever tipped his cap towards Girardi?
If you really want to dig into what he is saying:
He uses “was the guy” from the start, but doesn’t say they are interested in the same guy now.
How it can it not be Donnie?? Just because Joe G is well spoken and can put on a good Northwestern presentation he is assumed to be a brilliant manager? Didn’t he get get canned after 1 yr with the Marlins for being a jacka** Just give the great Donnie the job and lets get him some players. Rowand and Santana would be nice. Yanks are 2 lefthanded and never hit in the clutch…let’s dumb it down a bit and get some everyday regular type hitters who think line drive up the middle instead of the solo HR
Pete-
In a previous post you mentioned you were leaning towards Donnie Baseball over Girardi, any reason why?
Santana would be nice but not Rowand. Hasn’tanyone learned about these one year wonders? They are not reliable. Go Melky! He’s 23; he’ll improve.
I’ve figured it out!
Since finishing work on The Sopranos, David Chase now writes for Hank Steinbrenner!
Could you imagine if the fans voted? It’d be 2000 all over again!
fans voting for what? the manager?
Fans voting on what? the manager?
yeah!
I mean, it’d be crazy, of course, and funny as hell, but I imagine it’d be really close.
All the best to Donnie, I hope he lights a fire
Nope, it’s Girardi.
i dig rebecca.. you are right, either way there will be a lot of debate but to me Donnie is a no brainer-people put too much emphasis on in game moves especially in the AL…a good pitching coach is always in charge of the pitchers -like Mel once was…
What a surprise…Pete like Mattingly, who is just as laid-back and reactive as Clueless Joe. It will be the same lazy, unmotivated ballclub with Mattingly at the helm. But as long as he kisses the media’s butt, guys like Pete will fall all over themselves supporting him.
God forbid, the Yanks actually hire a guy with some fire, heart and desire (and who might actually demand excellence) like Girardi.
Nope, just another boring dud who will let the team embarass themselves with no accountability to be had.
Rebecca-
Who would be playing Nader in this 2000 election?
nud: “let’s dumb it down a bit and get some everyday regular type hitters who think line drive up the middle instead of the solo HR”
Yes, much rather have a guy on first base than a guy hitting a homer.
nud: “people put too much emphasis on in game moves especially in the AL”
This statement is ridiculous.
The reason it’s Girardi is Hank’s comment about selecting a great manager for 10+ years.
Girardi has a chance to be that given the remarkable job he did with the Marlins, his education at an elite university, his knowledge of statistics, his time in MLB playing a thinking man’s position, and the way he articulated his views on YES.
It’s absurd to make that comment about Mattingly at this point.
No offense Pete but Cash has tipped his toward Joe G and not Donnie.
Rowand was pretty good prior to this year…Yankees really wanted him prior to signing Damon. That being said buy low sell high. Rowand is coming off possibly a career year and may never repeat it. He will comand more money than he’s worth. If it takes Melky and Kennedy to acquire Santana then by all means do that, then sign Rowand. But, only if you acquire Santana, otherwise leave Melky in CF. Maybe package Wang and Matsui with a prospect or two, to the Dodgers for James Loney and Matt Kemp.
Do we know for sure about Girardi?
And Peña = Nader, everyone knows that!
again people this isnt football ro hoops..it is baseball…all you Gerardi lovers are just like little Theo Epsteins-lets just rely on what percentages tell us-cmon please..I would be very angry if I didnt realize this blog was filled with teenagers

LOL!
I LOVE the Donnie vs G-Man arguments
It’s too Rich
nud-
you stuttering again?
Donnie Baseball, Donnie Baseball, Donnie Baseball… Keep the emotion out of it folks. Girardi is by far a better man for the job, if they don’t hire him it will come back to bite them in the butt. Torre’s popularity made them push him away and Donnie Baseball’s popularity may cause them to hire him. WAKE UP THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST. Hank has lowered the bar and asked every one to be patient with the new manager because this is a team in transition. How many teams in transition are going to spend over $300 million on free agents. this fronnt office doesn’t need a new manager it needs a psychiatrist so they can figure out their identity
nud: I’m 21. I resent the implication. But not really.
Don’t fans want a manager who shows some life??? If the Yanks don’t hire Girardi, they may as well bring Torre back…
_I would be very angry if I didnt realize this blog was filled with teenagers_
Hmmmmm, hot college co-eds! Yes!
I recently read a comment by Tim on a previous thread – I was impressed by the response of Peter Abraham. Tim, it is breathtaking to think that you advocate virtual censorship by the Yankee organization of someone because of his opinions. So you want to read only what passes muster with a particular organization (or political party? politician? yourself?) and take away access to those with conflicting opinions? My brother is a fairly widely read political reporter and opinion columnist – I called him to read him your comments and his first reaction was robust laughter and then we both bemoaned this type of thinking. Think about what your remarks imply. I don’t believe that you would advocate deleting a certain little portion of the Constitution – won’t happen. Do be aware that attacking others’ opinions instead of giving some thought to them, and then rejecting them with reason if you disagree is highly preferable to wearing blinders and not giving consideration to others’ thoughts. As for Murray Chass – who led him to that information? The Yankee organizational structure does not need sympathy – it and its PR machine is doing just fine.
Dracula , love the name!
Doc, You are a dirty old man…
LOL!
you guys are killing me.
Now I have this vision of Donnie sleeping on the bench in pinstripe pajamas and nitecap (the one with a fluffy wool ball)
hahahaahhh
I was wondering about that name…Can’t believe I missed that. Dr. Acula, classic…

Why am I imagining Donnie B in a Santa hat?
why not make a deal with the Cubs for Pinella if you want to see outward emotion…People in the know have always said that Donnie is full of fire inside and he isnt afraid to call people out..I guess if you scream real loud and kick dirt on umpires it means you will lead your team to a title (or take C Zambrano out after 80 pitches)
Gerardi=poor mans Buck Showalter
I read that same article Peter cites and that quote jumped out at me, too. It’s Donnie. I’m positive now.
lets face it pete..you have been rooting for donnie to get the job since it opened up…this is actually worse then when you were rooting for phil hughes to spend more time in the minor leagues-joe girardi will be TEN times the manager donnie will be and if the yankees have any sense they will choose him. Goodness gracious put down the pom poms pete
nud… i’m sorry but if you want people to take you seriously, please get the name right. it’s GIRARDI, not gerardi.
You would think he would learn how to spell the next manager’s name correctly
BTW is nud short for nude?
How did Hank stay out of the media for the last 20 years?!! Take it to the bank Mattingly will be the next manager.
“I can tell you at this point, the family and the baseball people are pretty much in agreement,” said Hank Steinbrenner, adding the club hasn’t offered the job to anyone. “We’re close. Still a few details to work out. Do some more thinking on it. That’s about it.”
How Do , I have Faith Cashman will make the Right Decision . I have to admit it’s a tough one .
Very Nice !!! P.S. Any chance the Yankees could trade Wang-Melky and a B prospect for Santana ????
again people not a spelling bee or a public speaking contest..I will spell girardi anyway I see fit—I am glad your high school english teacher is on top of you Janie
Did anyone in this forum even watch the Yankees in the 80’s or did you all join up in 96. Do you even know who Mike Stanley is?
James,
Do you have a crystal ball? How the hell can you make a statement like Girardi will be 10 times the Manager Mattingly would? A one year stint in the NL with a bunch of kids is a big enough sample size? Let’s not forget the Man was fired after only one season….
I really don’t understand where the Donnie is Torre Light stuff comes from. No-one has seen him manage a team B4…I can’t imagine anyone with the work ethic of a Don Mattingly expecting any less from his players. The guy lives and breathes baseball. Anyone questioning his make-up or abilties as a manger has never seen him play. He had the heart of a Lion. Stop the non-sense already…Either choice will be a good one. Mattingly has to have an edge in his ability to deal with the ownership. He also is worshiped by the Players on the current team. That has to count for something when you have so many free agents.
Pete didn’t finish the rest of the quote…it talked about Cashman:
The search comes with general manager Brian Cashman heading into the final year of his deal, but Hank Steinbrenner said Cashman isn’t linked to the success of the manager.
“I think from the start the guy that I was leaning towards and the guy he was leaning towards, it’s the same guy,” he said. “So his job wouldn’t be on the line if I tend to agree with him.”
How Do , Pete – What do you think it would take to get Santana away from Minnesota ???
Good job Janie he spelled it correctly.
Buddy: I explained in a post a few days ago why I thought Donnie was the choice.
Hank (and others): Where did this perception come from that Mattingly is lazy? He was the hardest-working hitting coach I have ever seen and he was one hell of a player for 14 years. Yet now he’s somehow laidback?
As for the Yankees being unmotivated, they had 94 wins. The third-most wins in baseball. They had a crap pitching staff for much of the year and compensated by scoring 963 runs, by far the most in baseball.
How is a team that scored 963 runs unmotivated? Explain that to me.
Some of you act like Torre called a meeting before the Cleveland series and told them to lay down. Wang pitched two of his worst games of the season and bugs landed on Joba and he couldn’t handle it. Not that many people could have, but Fausto Carmona did.
If Wang pitches just OK and Joba throws strikes, the Yankees move on and none of this happens. Yet now Mattingly is a dog like Torre was.
Do you actually watch the games? They won 94 of them.
Don’t blame me for joining up in the nineties. I wasn’t even born til 86!
James:
How did it work out for Phil Hughes? He came up too quickly, suffered a bad injury when he pitched deeper in a game than he had all season and didn’t get his feet back under him until Sept. Oddly, the Yankees were much more cautious with Chamberlain and Kennedy. Gosh, I wonder why?
Dude, I don’t root for anything. My salary stays the same no matter plays or manages. I said I thought Donnie should be the manager but that Girardi would be OK, too. Is that a crime? I guess so.
Becca,
At least you didn’t have to live through the 86 Mets…What an awful time in Yankee fandum…
sorry rebecca…I don’t mean to typecAST anyone by age…hey I was a rabid Yankee fan when I was a teenager calling Michael Kay on 770 proposing trades (Tim Wallach for Jesse Barfield) but when I sit down and read this blog and I see all the Clueless Joe crap and How Girardi is a genius and Mattingly is lazy it makes me wonder Who are these people and How did they form this ridiculous opinion. I just hate spoiled Yankee fans that take for granted making the playoffs for the last 12 yrs…I am sorry folks it just isnt that easy even with a huge payroll. Did Boston make the playoffs last year? NO
and for the loser named ThatwuzMe-if you are gonna complain about my spelling htne you should change your name to That was me!! now go put on your red Yankee cap and act accordingly
nud, The first series I really remember was in 1955 the Brooklyn Dodgers beat us in 7, we beat them in 7 in 56. Then followed by those great Hank Aaron led Milwaukee teams in 57 and 58 my favorite series of all time was 1958.
VOII: Well, I was born in April ‘86, so technically I did!
On the downside, I never got to hear Phil Rizzuto broadcast
Pete,
That injury could have just as easily happened at AAA…Hughes proved he belonged up in the show. If he doesn’t hurt the hammy he may have thrown a no no, and surely would have been no worse than the Yankees 3rd best starter.
Pete you are the man….You provide the best and most up to date info on the Bombers…You are much better then the other beat writers…Thanks for all the hard work…
Thanks for the lecture sonny.
I have too much faith in Cashman for it to be Mattingly. Cashman is not a “pick the sentimental favorite who has no experience” kind of guy.
you were alive in the 50’s and your blog name is ThatWuzMe? and you criticize my spelling…cmon old man
Nud
Mike Stanley was agood offensive and defensive catcher. What do I win?
But if you watched the Yankees in the 80’s you might not have seen Mike Stanley. I don’t think he got to the Yanks until the early 90’s.
VOIII, That was the most depressing night of the season when that kid went down in Texas. We might have caught Boston if.
Old man huh? You just full of original stuff.
nud, life is nothing more than a journey through time, some of us are further along than others. I have the benefit of my experiences. And I’m damn sure I’ve seen a lot more great games than you have.
I saw Willie Mays in prime, and Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle. I saw Ted Williams hit his last home run. And you tell me about Mickey Stanley. Wow!
ThatWuzMe –
Are you a Paul McCartney fan?
It’s Mike Stanley and I still believe you are 15 yrs old
I love Donnie but just have a gut feeling that Joe Girardi is going to be a great one. Just my opinion.
And I think you’re 8.
I usually try to forget player’s name who go over to the dark side like Stanley did, although we could’ve resigned him.
it’s an old subject but pete is right about hughes. if anyone remembers, the spring was freezing with a lot of cancellations and pitchers were behind in getting their pitch count up, hughes only had about a 50 pitch base down when he was called up. he wasn’t ready. he got hurt. end of story.
Mickey played with the Tigers.
Well there were quite a few hamstring injuries.
Why do you think Girardi will be great but Mattingly has no chance to be great? That is what I do not understand. Why do people assume that Mattingly can’t be a great manager but Girardi is a genius? A manager getting canned after 1 yr is not a good sign and it wasn’t just the owner or the owners son who couldnt stand Joe G, it was the GM, a GM with a ring!!
I hope peter doesn’t get tired of people consistently knocking his opinions. Everyone on here is entitled to an opinion. Just because he doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean he has any kind of agenda. geez.
I loved the Beatles Doreen. All of them.
Pete…I think it’s pretty obvious your instincts are wrong on this one. Pretty much every one else is reporting that Girardi has been Cash’s guy…not Mattingly. So that quote is revealing…looks like it will be Girardi.
Not worth fighting over nud, just an opinion. I will acept whoever, I like Donnie too. Great ballplayer.
NO… NO…
this doesnt sound good..
i am going to bank on pete Abe’s extra parsing as a bit too much and hope for the best..
Donnie Baseball is so 80’s

The Young and the Listless
This whole saga has the feel of a really good soap. Tune in tomorrow to see your favorite cast of characters do the totally unbelievable in their desperate search for more face time and being quoted by the media.
Can hardly wait for the next chapter starring borea$$, aroid and the bad hair boys in the Bronx.

where were you when mazerowski hit the walk off against ralph terry? that was the worst one ever. i was getting on a school bus listening on a transistor radio someone had.
“I’m here because I share a passion with the rest of you.”
Arguing with strangers on the internets?
I think I was in school, 7th grade, in shop class, one of the guys was listening to the game on a concealed transistor radio and giving us updates. When Tony Kubek muffed the grounder which struck him in the Adam’s Apple and had to be taken out of the game, we were all taumatized. Losing that game and series was terrible.
Who’s arguing?
The most unfortunate thing about this whole thing is that the yankees pretty much have to hire Donnie babseball. I think all the speculation that the yankee officials themselves are making is basically just trying to make news. They want the media and fans to view this process sa utlra competitive because it is supposed to be one of the top jobs in profressional sports. It’s the yankees for crying out loud. However, Steins and cash know that if they do not name donnie baseball manager his yankees legacy in some regards will have a black cloud hanging over it. George steinbrenner has said the way he treated other yankee greats in the past lie yogi berra was a big mistake and would never do it again. Donnie didnt not come back to be hitting coach and bench coach for a year. If he wasnt going to be the manager they would have told him up front were not interested so dont interview. Whether its the right or wrong decision the yankees have to choose donnie and they know this. Donnie it will be no questions.
#9 Roger Maris?
So you’re no spring chicken either Randy. Nice to meet you.
“#9 Roger Maris?”
No… Nettles… my favorite player when I was a wee lad.
Nettles was a great ballplayer too and on a great team.
Nettles was my favorite player too…The plays that guy used to make at 3rd were a work of art. Loved the attitude he brought to the table as well.
The whole Toby Harah experiment at 3rd sucked…I was so pissed at George for letting Nettles go…
My favorite on that team was number 15, he was born to play the game. No one could protect the line like Nettles.
It would be funny if Hank were just throwing out cryptic quotes like that to mess with people.
Talk about great catchers…He would probably have been a great manager…You are right he was absolutely born to play the game….
Is anyone else really sad that when they move to the new stadium, Munson’s locker won’t be with them anymore?
Andrea: If that’s the case, can you imagine the laugh he’s having now?
I’m sad that they are knocking the house that Ruth built down. The new stadium will be beautiful and is probably needed. But the history won’t be there…I guess they’ll have to start on a new legacy…”The House that Jeter Built”,somehow doesn’t have the same ring to it. Maybe we can call it “The House That Rudy Built”…
He’ll still have a monument. I’m down with the new stadium, there will be a few sacrifices though. All the ghosts will follow.
“It would be funny if Hank were just throwing out cryptic quotes like that to mess with people.”
In that case he should just put on the ‘Riddler’s’ costume from Batman (with the big “?” on it) and start that maniacal laugh when he talks to the press.
For what it’s worth…I went on a tour of the Stadium recently, and the question of Munson’s locker came up. As I remember, I think they said that it would come over to the new stadium.
I think.
I don’t think the monument is the same as his locker.
I’m down with the new stadium, but I don’t want them to rip down the current one
Levine is maniacal enough without a costume.
The Steinbrenner boys, Uday and Qusay. I could be wrong but I bet the Yankees are sold before the first shovel of dirt hits the casket.
Joe from Long Island: that makes me happy. Kind of weird, though.
I’m afraid I should say, it’s been a great run, I hope the next owner measures up to his standards.
Munson’s locker will be moved over to the new Stadium, according to an article in the Times (think it was the Times) this summer.
The longer it takes, the more likely it’s Girardi.
Guys: There will be no “Munson locker” in the new Stadium. The clubhouse manager told us. The idea being that the locker now that is empty actually was his locker at the stadim where he played.
There would be no locker that was his at the new place. The room is a totally different layout.
I agree with the idea. It would be contrived.
agree. It would have been phony.
I loved Thurman. But he has been dead for almost 30 years. Move on.
I thought Cashman was a Girardi man?
Jeff, stop posting fake news
Pete, I am just catching up with the blog today, but I have an important question: are you REALLY just 20 minutes round-trip from Modell’s? Cuz I live in upstate New York, not anywhere near Modell’s.
But I have seen their website, and they have some sweet Yankees stuff.
Maybe I could send you a check and you could swing over and score me some serious Yankees loot?
Is Jeff the same person as Hoover who posted on the Google Yankees group about a 3 year contract for 3 and 1/2 million?
Don. Looksgood
To Jimbo; There is a Modells in Middletown NY; Plus I believe you can shop online at their website.
Any truth to Bobby Abreau’s option being picked up?
Not to change the subject, but has anyone else eaten at Mo’s restaurant? I’ve been there twice. Nice place.
Thanks Todd. But I was referring to a post made by Pete in the other thread…
Food for thought…………
If Mattingly is named manager, then I think Tony Pena will be his bench coach.Joe Girardi will go to L.A. and be the next Dodger manager.
I could also see not only Dave Eiland get promoted to bullpen coach, but Butch Wynegar (Hitting coach for Scranton)named 1st base coach. Then again Larry Bowa could stick around and be bench coach as well.
Mike Stanley wore #20 and had two stints with the Yankees.
He was the catcher before Joe Girardi was acquired from the Rockies.
Stanley was reacquired from them damn REDSUX in exchange for Tony Armas Jr.(pitcher) who was later dealt to Expos for Pedro Martinez!!!AGHHH I hated that trade.
Jennifer,
ESPN is reporting Abreu’s option was picked up.
Peter Abraham, any idea when Cashman’s memoir will come out? Can’t wait, What a fasinating read it will be.
I just saw Girardi in the Denver airport! He walked by me with his kids.
Okay thanks, I read on another message board that Buster was reporting it.
Middletown isn’t upstate. Middletown is Orange County. Middletown has a commuter train to NYC. Anywhere that has a commuter train isn’t NYC.
I live right by Middletown and I go to NYU. I cannot go to NYU and live upstate.
Modell’s is also WAY more expensive online. Lame.

Rebecca: I know its not baseball, but I couldn’t resist:
I was a freshman at Catholic Central High School in Upstate NY attending a “Career Day”. It was a Friday Afternoon. After viewing exhibits all morning, we ate Lunch in the school cafeteria. When we came out about 1:30 PM, we saw a Catholic priest, visibly upset, who told us “President Kennedy has just been shot”. During our Afternoon session, we were interrupted by an announcement from the Public address system that the President had died and that the remainder of the “Career Day” activities were cancelled. It was a long eerie ride back home on the school bus that day. Listening to a transistor radio, speculating about a communist assassination plot and subsequent invasion, concerned about World War III. Heavy stuff for a teenager!

Okay, back to baseball…….
I meant anywhere that has a commuter train isn’t upstate.
I suck at communication. Pay no attention anymore.
I also heard that Cashman favored Girardi and I saw on another board that Hank was partial to Girardi, too.
Most of the polls I saw, before they took them all down, had Girardi leading, some by a long way. But that’s just the fans. What do WE know?!
I’m still for Girardi. He just really fits the job in every category.
The Blog Boss: Catholic Central High School–is that the one in Albany?
“ESPN is reporting Abreu’s option was picked up.”

It’s all good people.
I’m hoping for Joe G., but it’s not like Mattingly would be a bad choice.
This is a tough decision, but either way it’s a win.
The Blog Boss: I went to Russell Sage College. I say “Albany” as a generic way of referring to that area. My apologies. I always thought Catholic High was such a fake sounding generic name. The first time I saw a billboard for it, I thought it was fake!
Congratulations, Andrea. Russell Sage is a fine College.
Next to RPI (and maybe Siena), it has the finest academic standards in the Capital District Area.
Are you a “local”?
FWIW,
Anyplace north or west of Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland is “upstate”. Middletown qualifies. Get over it, it’s nothing to be ashamed of.
One of my closest friends went to RPI.
I’m a Syracuse U-er m’self
not a local. I liked it a lot up there though. I got really close with the Dean of the college (her secretary is a HUGE Yankee fan) and it is her dream to hire me there when I finish my Ph.D. So hopefully I’ll be a local someday!
Andrea, The Boss Blog, My family came to the states from Ireland in the 1830s lived in the Bronx for awhile, Spuyten Duvil, then the family moved up to Troy in 1865 after the Civil War. I was in a study hall in the auditorium of Colonie Central High School when the news was announced about JFK.
what a great story!
With Abreu back, that means the Yankees must trade one of Damon/Matsui/Giambi. That’s one expensive rotation at LF/DH. This move seems confusing because it’ll be very difficult to move one of them. I guess you have to trade one of the 3 anyways unless you want to test Matsui in RF which seems silly. Looks like another cluster**** next year and virtually the same offense returning. I don’t like this move.

Reg-gie, Reg-gie, Reg-gie
Wells’ perfect game
Game 7, 2003 ALCS
Rocket’s Mayday Surprise
etc.
Anyone know where the recent “Cashman supports Giradi” stuff has come from? I haven’t seen any quotes to support it, just people stating it as if everyone knew. A year ago when he gave Mattingly the bench coach job, he all but said that he was grooming Mattingly to succeed Torre.
As for Girardi, he seems to treat starting pitchers worse than Torre treated relievers. The starting staff in Florida had a lot of arm issues this year. Girardi also had the horrendous move of putting Josh Johnson back into a game after a long rain delay. Bad enough normally, but for a guy who recently complained about his arm pain?
If Girardi gets the job, there better be some mighty strict rules on using Hughes & Joba, or they’re going to be hurting bad a year from now.

everywhere one reads this post-season in the media feeding frenzy related to A-Rod-Pettitte-Posada-Mattingly-Torre-Girardi-Peña… one gets that one-liner at the end of the article: Ron Guidry will not be returning next season to the Yankees as pitching coach.
So…, he was “canned as he performed negatively last season? he quit for reasons known or unknown? There are never any more comments on Guidry’s role except for that one-liner. do you have any idea as to what’s up with that?
And…
the other thing we are reading as a constant one-liner without much dissection is that if Girardi (or long-shot Peña) is named Yankees manager for 2008, then Mattingly leaves the organization.
Is this because he feels it would be a personal snub? Does he have other fish to fry? What’s up with that? Why couldn’t he stay on in some capacity? Would someone throw out this question at a press-conference or is it too charged? thx.
the peter bogdonavich tom petty documentary is four hours long. for whatever that’s worth.
While a bad mgr. can certainly hurt his team in many ways, a good one basically provides a positive attitude & solid game prep. What the NYY truly need is a much better evaluation of players signed as free agents & acquired via trade. Their advance scouting also seems to be lacking something indefinable.
My sense of humor aside, due to all the recent history & circumstances swirling around the Yankees since 2004, Mattingly is the man for the job. It should’ve been Lou, but they blew it. Twice.

Peter – A couple of questions:
What is going on with Ron Guidry? Is he leaving – has he left or what? Was he fired or did he just decide to go? He is one of my favorite Yankees and I’d like to know what has or is going on with him and the team.
Why not Tony Pena for manager? I certainly hope that his interview was not only to satisfy MLB minority rules. Tony is a great baseball guy and has more experience than either Don or Joe. The Yankees have always been slow to acknowledge minorities with employment on the team – now is their chance to do so.
“With Abreu back, that means the Yankees must trade one of Damon/Matsui/Giambi. ”
or move Melky to the bench.
“Looks like another cluster**** next year and virtually the same offense returning”
really, the same offense that lead the league in scoring?
“The Yankees have always been slow to acknowledge minorities with employment on the team – now is their chance to do so.”
of course, Tony Pena is already employed by the Yankees.
“all you Gerardi lovers are just like little Theo Epsteins-lets just rely on what percentages tell us-cmon please.”
the timing of the comment is really bad.
it doesn’t really make sense to criticize Theo’s gameplan right now, does it?
