agreed that rowand will want too many years. just like hunter. the only free agent OF i see taking a short deal is jones.

I’m sorry but dropping Abreu for Rowand would obviously be a huge mistake.
Rowand is going to get tons of money(and years) based on last season. Something close to what Matthews Jr got last season isn’t out of the question. Everyone who wants to sign him should look at his stats for 05 & 06. He has had 2 good seasons and been very mediocre otherwise. He is exactly the kind of player a smart team would avoid overpaying.
On the other hand look at Abreu’s stats. He has consistently been a VERY valuable offensive player. The man would be a real superstar but the focus of his game isn’t HRs so he get’s ignored for the most part. In this market he is a steal at 14 mill for 1 year. Even if we didn’t want him on the team we should pick up the option and trade him.

Rowand had 27 bombs in philly. I dont think abreu had that his last year there. So as far as offense its not that far off. Plus abreu got good pitches to hit with afraud behind him. Not impressed.

The Yankees just lost their home runs,runs scored, slugging percentage and rbi leader. They are hardly in a position to sacrifice offense at this point.

Abreu and Rowand offset each other actually. Rowand gives better defense while Abreu gives better offense. It will be interesting to see which one that the Yankees will pick.
