Hank Steinbrenner I love your stance on this but don’t get me started on this “paper captain” Derek Jeter.
1. same captain that defended Giam-roid
2. same captain that also left Torre to hang this offseason
3. same captain that doesn’t work w/ the young kids (prospects)
4. same captain that left Alex to the media sharks for 3 yrs.
5. same captain that is monotone and writes To whom this may concern statements when coachs get released
and anybody that has a problem w/ that can do you know what w/ your response !!!!
Thank you..
Damn, you’re up late.
brandon, your comment is laughable. at best.
torre was great on letterman.
this is like my first year as a yankee fan, and OMG all this stuff is driving me crazy
man.. that rick carpiniello article freaked me out.. Barry Bonds.. Yankees.. that’d be the final straw… please just trade for Joe Crede or Beltre… then maybe trade an outfielder in that package so as to sign torii hunter/andrew jones… jones would make for some right handed pop.. or maybe even just re-sign Aaron Boone!! now that’d be something.. definitely we need to shore up on our porous bullpen…
Torre to L.A.? Good luck to him. I saw McCarthy go to RSox, as well as Houck, and Casey to Mets. All of them had ood careers with NYY but never won anything after leaving. Either they got stupid, or the teams they took over weren’t very good. What do you think?

why are people all of a sudden calling the red sox a model of class? because they just won the ws and now everyone has to heap a bunch of praise on them? the yankees and yankee fans would never (and haven’t, i don’t think) sit in the stadium for HOURS after their game ended, and watch the red sox on the jumbo screen to see if they lose, and their subsequent celebration for clinching the AL East was completely classless! Schilling, Beckett, Papelbon, Pedroia, Youkilis… are models of class? i completely disagree… and winning 2 in four years doesn’t automatically make you a dynasty. How can you call a team a dynasty when they didn’t even make the postseason last year? Maybe if they win next year (which better not happen), but considering the 2007 team is so much different than the 2004 team, and that they were SWEPT in the first round of 2005 and DIDN’T EVEN MAKE IT to the 2006 postseason, you CANNOT call them a dynasty.
Boy, Pete, you are getting some major air time. Just turned on All Night with Jason Smith and caught him talking about your whirlwind interviews.

Isn’t exciting to be a Yankee!
Today’s Front Covers !!
Great job breaking the Torre to LA story Peter and great job on Sportscenter. Good luck to Joe and Donnie Baseball out there in the sunshine.
Despite what many of the know nothings in the media are saying (not Peter), this is a very exciting time to be a Yankee fan. The farm system is loaded, the Yankees have a state of the art GM and manager, Hughes, Joba, Kennedy, Jeter, Cano, Melky and hopefully Mariano, Po, and Pettitte. I’m psyched.
I hope Clemens files for free agency, the yanks should ask him too, then offer arbitration, so he can say no thanks.
Just as insurance in case he unretires again. The yanks were already burned once for draft picks, hey it doesn’t hurt anyone to get ready tobe compensated you know.
I guess NY would get no picks for Doug M. but if Vizcaino leaves, what type of pick do they get?
Also they hve to resign Bowa now before he leaves with Mattingly to join Torre.
The critism on Jeter by Brandon I think is correct. There is a character issue there that no one outside of Jim Rome in the media is willing to address.
We won and got to the big dance with third baseman like Boone, Boggs, and Brosius – we did it before without A-Rod, we can do it again.
The pitching is line up for another run.

Members of the Empire, I have the high privilege and distinct honor of presenting to you the Manager of the New York Yankees!

Thank you, Don Zimmer
Come back in a bit. I’ve got a clip of Peter on Sportscenter and Torre on Letterman coming up
Thanks Peter for the scoop on Torre and the Dodgers.
brings back memories for a fan who came of age watching the YAnks beat LAsorda and the Dodgers.
Nothing against you, but you posted your colleague’s column, so here goes.
Rick Carpiniello:
The notion of a “curse” was ridiculous for Boston and it is ridiculous for the Yanks.
Any fan who has been to one of the new fan frriendly stadiums, knows the Yanks are in desperate need of new digs.
Also, the current stadium barely resembles the original “House that Ruth Built”.
Why does every columnist insist on mentioning Hank’s being a smoker?
Oh yeah; it is one’s Divine right to condemn a smoker in today’s perfection obsessed, button down world.
Don Mattingly may get the lodest cheers at Old Timers Day, but for many fans, he is certainly NOT the most beloved living YAnkee.
Poor Scott Proctor.
He can’t get away!
The Boras apology statement is appalling. Even if you take away the obscene level of greed, the blatant disrespect to the game with the opt-out annoucnement, I still can’t get over how phony Arod and Boras have been.
“I love NY, it feels like home, playing anywhere else would feel weird”
“I’m concerned about the situation with Mo and Po” (REALLY!! You know other people exist??)
and now “the timing of the announcement was a careless coincident, completely no intention to take away attention from the world series”
I’m glad Arod was born with athletic abilities, he and Boras have the kind of value system and minds cruel enough to commit seriously destructive Sh$T.
I would have liked to see A-Rod stay if the deal wasn’t absurd.
Since he opted out before officially talking to the Yanks, it’s probably because Boras-Rod will be looking for something more absurd than anyone imagines.
Yes it is too bad we won’t have his bat in the lineup next year. But with the gobs of cash they’re suddenly not paying him, the team will be able to do some things to pull together a better overall roster.
It’ll be interesting to see if either Posada, Pettitte or Rivera follows Torre to LA, if that’s where he ends up.
A-Rod can only claim he opted out for a ‘good’ reason (before officially negotiating) if he plays wherever Torre manages next year, or maybe for the Cubs because he played for Piniella in Seattle.
Wherever he ends up, he must have known in advance he’d get what he wants there before passing up whatever $$ ANSKY would offer.
It’ll be interesting to see if he pulls a reverse Damon and still winds up in Boston, even after his perfectly timed opt-out announcement, not showing up at the Sox WS clincher to receive the Hank Aaron award, 4 years of being their pitchers 2nd favorite HBP target (behind Jeter) and 4 years of their fans hating him for snubbing them at the last minute to come to NY.
I’m not saying that’s what I expect but I wouldn’t be surprised if ihe went to Boston. I actually expect him to go to the Giants, the Cubs or the Dodgers if Torre goes there.
If Joe T. gets the L.A. job & hires Don Mattingly for his bench coach it will just show everyone he really has lost touch with reality. Mattingly was no help in the American League, has no experience with National League strategy. He thinks a double switch is when his cd matures & he changes the money to another account. If Joe has any sense left he would try to hire Zim as his bench coach.
Wow, that article by Rick Carpiniello is TERRIBLE. Not only does he start making up hokey nonsense about “curses” but he misuses the word “irony” at least three times.
That thing looks like it should be printed in a high school paper

i’m no english major, but this makes sense to me.
nice job on espn this morning pete
So far, I’m loving Hank Steinbrenner for his stand on the A-Rod issue. Any “curse” idea is ludicrous, and whoever wrote that is a pathetic hack. And congrats to Pete on getting more and more national exposure.
Kim,
I can’t agree more. These phonies.
If constantly hitting opposing batters on purpose, cheating (McSlappy the dwarf) and cursing on national TV (Mr. my-middle-name-starts-with-a-F Beckett) is considered classy, what has become of the world?
The Red Sox may be “winners”, but they’ll never be even close to “champions”, much less “classy”.
