"But he is being suspended for 25 games at the beginning ot the year."

Yeah, they'd have to have a plan in place to deal with that. It'd depend on who they have on the roster. If Matsui and Damon are both still here...then it's obvious. If one of them is gone...Maybe Duncan plays LF and Damon in CF? Or a guy like Sardinha plays CF for a while and Matusi plays LF? It's pretty much all of April, which could be tough. But...better than having 3 seasons of paying an aging Torii Hunter 18 million dollars per when you'd like to insert Jackon or Tabata.

Put me in with the Camaron idea. But he is being suspended for 25 games at the beginning ot the year.

The one thing that I like about Loduca is he seems old school. He didnt like that alex was standing at home plate after the home run and said something. I would like to see him do the same thing to ramirez.

"Getting Lowell would weaken the Sox perhaps, but these ploys usually backfire (Hello Damon!). I think he’s got 2-3 good years left but not a better upside than Cano at third."

I don't care about weakening the Sox, but I'd rather have Cano's numbers at 2B...especially because, most of the time, he IS a slick fielding 2B. Except when his attention wanders, which happened WAY less often last year than it did the year before. If that means we need to give Lowell a 4th year...ok. As long as we can avoid giving a blanket no-trade, I'm ok with that. The Yankees can afford to pay guys to play elsewhere, as long as they can get them to go. I feel like they'd be happy to pay Giambi 10 million to play somewhere else, but he won't leave! Well, and no one wants him. Maybe a 10 mil for one year, they would, though.

I’m not a big fan of ultimatums."

Uhh, I kinda feel like you're giving me an ultimatum, No???

"Melky likewise is an asset, strong and getting stronger defensively, improving plate discipline, not a power threat true, but an excellent defensive CF with .290-300 potential, why are we always lusting after other teams stars?"

I like Melky, a lot. I like Kennedy, a lot. If the Twins are really going to move Santana, I think that a deal centered around those two guys, plus a guy like Horne, would be reasonable -- if Santana signs an extension. And you CAN make a trade contingent upon an extension. Kennedy was the milb pitcher of the year, and has gotten his feet wet in MLB. Melky can play all OF positions, is a switch hitter, and is only 23. He's put up decent numbers already and is still several years from his prime.

I was looking at who's available, and Mike Cameron is basically the poor man's Hunter. His numbers aren't appreciably worse, and he could almost CERTAINLY be had for fewer years than Torii, which is the biggest thing to me. Cameron on a 2 year deal while we wait for Jackson or Tabata is WAY better than having to figure out what to do with Hunter. The guy hit 21 homers last year despite playing half his games in an extreme pitchers park.

Now, the Matsui/Damon/Giambi question is an interesting one. If it was possible, I'd love to have matsui play 1B, sign a guy like Crede as my 3B (low risk, high reward) for a year or two on a make-good deal and then look for middle relief. Failing that, I'd like to trade Matsui for a solid righty 1B that can hit 20 homers and take a walk. But I don't know if we could actually convince him to go. To be clear, I don't WANT him to go...I like Matsui a lot. But Giambi just can't be moved. No one will take him, and he's refused to waive his no-trade a couple times already. Matsui actually has value out there, and we have other options for a #6 hitter. We don't have many good options for a leadoff guy, which is why I keep Johnny. Also, his D in LF is a + over Matsui.

SJ44 - What's your take on a one-year deal with Bonds to make up for some of the firepower we lost with Arod's departure? Good idea, bad idea? Why?

Even though he has balked initially at the move, Cano to third makes perfect sense. He played 3rd in the minors, as he has matured physically he's power numbers have grown, isn't it possible/likely that 19 homers last year might increase 5-10 this year. or that 97 rbi.s might rise 10-20? If, and not a wild-eyed if, those things happen then you have Lowell like numbers. Cano has expressed some doubts but, strange concept here, it's about what's best for the TEAM! Cano cajoled over to third means we need a slick fielding second sacker, unclear who that might be, but get the best glove around, if our mission is to be more pitching-defense oriented. Duncan may, and this most likely IS wild-eyed, hit 20 homers in 400 ab.s and Minky can start some games, and finish most games, for defense. Phillips is an asset, if I'm not incorrect, he can play first, second and third. Getting Lowell would weaken the Sox perhaps, but these ploys usually backfire (Hello Damon!). I think he's got 2-3 good years left but not a better upside than Cano at third. Melky likewise is an asset, strong and getting stronger defensively, improving plate discipline, not a power threat true, but an excellent defensive CF with .290-300 potential, why are we always lusting after other teams stars? That mind-set I hope is history....

yankee21, don't get me wrong, I'd take Wright, Reyes, etc in a heartbeat.

I just don't like LoDuca. If he's half the prick he seems like, he wouldn't be good for the team. There is merrit to personality and effect on the clubhouse, and I'm not sure his ability outweighs the negative impact. I'm also not at all sure he's really a prick at all.

I wouldn't throw away my Yankee gear or anything if we signed him. I'd give him a shot just like anyone else....

That said, I want Posada back regardless.
