Any way you look at it Arod and Boras messed up big time.

Sure it's possible that he never wanted to come back, but no way they wouldn't want the Yankees to be at least in play. There is absolutely no down side to having one more team chasing Arod, if even just for 10 days longer to drive up his asking price. So somewhere someone dropped the ball big time.

I'm guessing this is what happened:

Arod got all these calls from Steins and Cash. Boras didn't trust him to talk to them b/c Arod is such a headcase, so he kept telling him to ignore the calls.

Arod cares a ton about what people think and didn't want to come across as greedy so they agreed to use Mo, Po, Andy and no manager as an excuse to opt out.

Around the weekend Arod got wind that Yanks will annouce the Girardi hire on Monday, and that Mo was taking a meeting in Tampa on Tue. So now Arod is super nervous b/c he could lose his excuse soon. So snake Boras took advantage of his headcase client's insecurity and say ok then we should announce your opt out asap, knowing that would be big news to come out during the WS game 4.

I think this is the likely scenario b/c as much as I would like to think of Arod as an egomaniac arrogant enough to purposefully upstage the WS and to blow off the Steins, it didn't make sense that they would do it intentionally to lose Yankees from the suitor mix.

Hmmm ...

I wonder if Boras-Rod actually anticipated a snub from the Yanks following his opting out without even talking to them.

"Oh, so now you don't want to talk to me? OK have it your way ... I'll go to Boston."

Now that'd be a real PR circus in Boston.

Then we'd see how quickly Sox Nation would love him. Morons.

Garrett Atkins has got to come to the Bronx.
Colorado's top prospect is a 3rd baseman.
Atkins is the answer at 3rd base.
His numbers are very cool...park adjusted as well.
Yup he is the answer.

Now that Torre has took the L.A. job I guess the only question is who will sleep longer during games Phil Jackson or Torre?

Dang, Cold Cash is frigid. "The fact of the matter is that he's not our 3rd baseman anymore"

I read that Kerry Wood & Girardi were close, wouldn't mind seeing what he can do for the bullpen. I think there is plenty of life left in his arm, but I am sure he will break down at some point.

Has Cash always been so long-winded? Rebecca, would you agree that Girardi is bright and engaging, but his use of two thousand and five and his use of adjectives in place of adverbs is distracting? I can live with it, though, at least we don't have to listen to Grady Little all the time!

Rebecca- I would faint at the thought of having to give a graduation speech! :)

Cashman's really been able to persevere and get through the rough times as the GM. A couple of years ago when his contract was running out, there was serious doubt over whether he would come back. His hands were starting to get tied due to a depleted farm system and a number of bad contracts. Suddenly he has been able to right the ship and turn everything around. He needs to keep it up, because he is doing a wonderful job!
