Considering that A Rod has been with the Yankees several years now and they haven't been to the World Series during his tour of duty with them a few coments are in order. He plays very well during the regular season, but in the playoffs, when it is time for him to shine, he does badly.
Does he swallow the Big Apple in the post season games?
It looks that way to me. It also seems as though his nick name should be changed to O Rod.

I think both he and the addition of Clemens this year may have had very bad influence on the Yankee morale. it was like saying "You guys are not good enough. We need a magic bullet. It is Clemens." Well, that didn't work out too well and it cost a lot of money.

So, a good bye to O Rod and a good bye to Clemens are in order. Clemens is finished; O Rod will try to hook the next john who starts to make a bid. Good riddance to both of them.

Cashman said they did not “need to” get a first baseman. They are prepared to go forward with Shelley Duncan, Andy Phillips and Jason Giambi.

Yankees are a better team without ARod.
Everyone else will play better now. Arod is great, but his energy brings down the team. He isn't worth the wins he brings and they can be made up easily.

Yankees have a glut of pitching as it stands now. I would keep him as a reliever, if I were them. Put in Kennedy and let Joba take on the role as set up man for Mariano. Dare I say let Mariano become the set up man and let Joba close. Yankees need a reliable closer to win games. Papelbon and Oki have won a lot of games for the Red Sox.

Watch out for the Mets as they want Posada and will give him a longer contract than the Yankees will. Yankees need to be careful.

"I’m pretty sure Boras has Arod locked in a room somewhere with indoor batting cage, some free weights and a constant loop of cartoons featuring subliminal messages in them."

Hysterical! Absolutely hysterical. Not far from the truth either.

I keep having fantasies of Arod dressed as Darth Vader picking up Boras dressed as the Emperor and throwing him over his head to his death.

I know it's wishful thinking, but man oh man, has Boras led this man astray. He's turned him into Bonds without the drugs (unless he is in the Mitchell report). This guy is universally loathed, will be trashed by the NY media for the rest of his career and all for more money. It's sad.

I wish him the best. I think if he had the cojones to fire Boras and call the Yankees and ask them for a 2nd chance they would really consider it, but it would have to happen fast and I'm pretty sure Boras has Arod locked in a room somewhere with indoor batting cage, some free weights and a constant loop of cartoons featuring subliminal messages in them.

What a shame.

This team is going to be okay. Pettitte and Mo are the keys. Get them back for sure and it all falls into place.

And for those of you knowing Hank/Hal, I'm a little stunned. I like the guys. I like the tough words and the commitment to winning they seem to have. If they were buffoons, Girardi wouldn't have been their pick. They wouldn't have okayed Eiland and spent what they did to retain Kevin Long and I can guarantee you they realize they want this last season in the old stadium to be a historic one.

I can't wait to see the moves and how this team fleshes out. Personally, I like Hank/Hal a lot.

Cashman is fine at 1B huh? Last I checked, Duncan and Giambi are lousy 1B and Phillips would be coming off a season-ending wrist injury. Sean Casey (career .301 BA/ .366 OBP hitter, .296/ .353 w/ only 42 SO in 453 AB this year) with a litle bit of Phillips for tough lefties would be better. I'd even bring back Tony Clark who's better than al of them. Cashman is already weakening the defense by not re-signing Mientkiewicz. Also Boston would still have the edge at 1B in Youkilis like they'd have the edge at 3B if they kept Lowell, DH (Ortiz), and Ramirez (LF), and might have the edge at catcher (Varitek) if Posada signs elsewhere. Pedroia and Cano cancel each other out, so the only clearcut edge the Yanks have is at SS (Jeter).

If Posada signs elsewhere, the Yanks have to get a real 1B.
If Baltimore doesn't pick up the option on Kevin Millar, the Yanks should sign him in a heartbeat.

The Yankees should decline Abreu's $16M option because it's too much money for 34-year old (on 3/11/08) awful RF with limited power who could easily give you his first half of 2007 all year thus be 1989-92 Jesse Barfield II minus the defense. He wouldn't be protected by A-Rod anymore and the Yankees are too lefthanded. They have plenty of lefthanded hitting in Damon, Cano, Matsui, Giambi, and the left sides of Posada and Cabrera. They need to cut the shit and offer Andruw Jones a year and say $15M ($1.5M > he made this year and $2M > what they'd clear buying out Abreu) to play CF. Jones would cost the Yanks $15M + $2M Abreu's buyout = $17M,
only $1M > Abreu's option, $2M > Abreu made this year. Jones is not getting 2 or more years from anyone after the lousy 2007 he had BA/ OBP/ SLG wise. I've read the Dodgers, b.s. cuz their oufield is set (Juan Pierre in CF, cheap kids who hit .300+ Ethier and Kemp in the corners). Jones did, however, post 26 HR and 94 RBI though and would be the perfect infusion of righthanded power the Yanks need. Also, Melky has the talent to equal Abreu's '07 HR total (16) and drive in 85 runs (a modest increase from his 73 this year), only 16 less RBI than Abreu which is o.k. cuz (Melky) will save at least 10 runs with his defense so it just about balances out.
