too many comments to read here, but Pete, I may disagree a little with your post. Comparing Villone to Arod as Boras clients is silly. if this was a large company, it would be like comparing a guy who comes in twice a month to check and replace lightbulbs to a CEO. i also wouldn't be surprised if Villone doesn't deal with Boras personally, but with one of his assistants or someone other Boras employee.

And Boras only has one player in A-Rods league as far as talent and the amount of money they can command is concerned.

And how do you know A-Rod did not say "Scott, I want to play for the Yankees next year" and Boras opted out on account of a-rod thinking that he would be in the best position 'maximize' his contract by doing so, but misjudging yankee front offices at the same time? how do we know this was not a poor judgement by Boras?

To simply state that A-Rod is the boss and Boras is the employee seems to be not looking at the picture...

Who do you want hitting for your team in the ninth inning of game five of the World Series with two out and your team down by two?

funny enough, saw something on Yahoo about the team that Pay-rod would reaaaaallllyyyyy like to play for...

"If Alex Rodriguez could handpick the team he plays for, Boston might well be No. 1 on his list. According to a source who has talked to Rodriguez recently, he'd love to play for the Sox because he thinks they can win multiple championships."

LOL. it is classic a-rod. you would have to think that it is some sort of ploy on arod's (really borass) part. sure sure big george is no longer in the driver's seat as his sons are trying to take a larger role in management of the yanks. however appeal to boss george's "love" for the red sox while making a play for the benjamins. smooth move ex-lax. u really have to wonder whether or not the yanks are truly "out" of the arod sweepstakes. i for one do not think they are. it is business. arod made his business decision, and the yanks have made theirs (at least initially). nothing has been etched in stone. if arod were to agree to a slightly lesser contract in terms of value (probably not entirely likely of course), then it could stand to reason that arod returns. murphydog summed it up best really.

would i be heartbroken to see arod leave. no. buh-bye. "what part didn't u understand, the 'buh' or the 'bye?' " but i really thought he was over his hangups. besides if you were juxtapose the recent stories in the NYTimes w/ the above Yahoo story, it does indeed look like that team Arod-a ss (as in Bor-ass) is trying to get the yanks back in it. hopefully the muckymucks in the executive offices on River Ave frequent Pete's blog. some pretty good ideas in here at times. one would hope that these are things they should have figured out for themselves, but in my field i would not profess to knowing everything myself. i do not always have every angle figured out when faced w/ a particularly difficult problem or case however much experience i might have. it will indeed make for an interesting off season.

I forgot to add that waste of money, Igawa to the above list. Actually, I left out a lot of stiffs that Cashman signed or traded for, and that's not including the bench, offense and defense.

"Yeah, Kei Igawa’s ~4:1 K:BB ratio in Japan was REALLY horrible. Who else are you talking about? The young guns? Pavano’s was bad, yes, but Saint Theo was going to give him 4/40 just like the Yanks did. Randy? Well, the Boss ordered Cash to make that trade. What was Brian supposed to do?"

Lets take a look at some of the pitchers acquired by the Yanks that are attributed to Cashman and then I'll give a few ratios.

1. Pavano. 2. Mussina's new contract. 3. Acevedo 6. Weaver. 7. Brown. 8. Javy Vasquez. 9. Myer. 10. Ponson
11. Heredia K/BB 1.51
12. Erickson 1.45
13. Chacon 1.30
14. Villone 1.48
15. Small 1.24

Sure, anyone can say, "Well Player A was wanted by the Sox too" or "Player B was the right choice at the time" or "Player C was obtained because there was nothing else out there" yadda yadda. But, that is a lame excuse. A GM is judged by the team's performance, NOT what looked right at the time. Otherwise ALL GM's would be perfect in your eyes.

It's obvious that Cashman is a huge part of the problem. For anybody to label him a genius because he doesn't trade prospects (that should actually be credited to Oppenheimer) is silly. Many of Cashman's trades and signings have been questionable at best.

With a 200 mil budget to play with, Cashman has failed badly, imo.

Anybody here ever read FireJoeMorgan.com? They rip bad sports journalism, and I'd say that 99% of their topics are about baseball. It is really funny because they are so right. Ufortunately they are Boston fans, but that doesn't usually affect their writing. Although if you look in their Glossary you will see what they really think about the phrase True Yankee. Also, check out their archives, linked at the bottom of the page, specifically the October of 2006 and 2005. It's great to see how stupid these sportswriters are.

Anyway, those guys are great and I recommend that blog to anybody who wants to wake up from a world where people think that David Eckstein and Darin Erstad are the greatest ingredients to a winning team.

To the I wish Sott Brosius was my 3B fan club (I love Scotty)

I'm just trying to picture Scott swinging vs Fausto Carmona and CC Sabathia and K-Rod and Joel Zumaya or Justin Verlander, yeh guys I mean can these pitchers get a little more credit unless your saying Sum Dum Kim and Trevor Hoffman (aka the best "closer" for other teams) & Hitcock are 1000% in a different league then them

IDK just a thought you know
