Lupica’s the writer so take it with a grain of rock salt. He thinks that Alex is being suckered.

  7. mel November 6th, 2007 at 12:32 am

Oh, yeah. And best wishes to Karstens!

  8. Ryan November 6th, 2007 at 12:48 am

“On Monday, Torre told Taiwan’s TVBS news station that he recently received a note from Wang, saying how much the Taiwanese hurler appreciated their relationship.”

I know its part of their culture, but these are the types of character guys you appreciate on your team.

  9. Sylvia November 6th, 2007 at 12:58 am

I am looking forward to see Karstens pitching.
Hopeing he will be fun and fine in Taiwan.

  10. kasey Anderson November 6th, 2007 at 2:37 am

better hope karstens looks good. he’ll be taking pettitte’s place in the rotation, i guess.

the offseason from hell continues. a big thanks to the yankees front office for bungling the handling of the torre situation badly enough to upset the entire apple cart. nicely done, fellas.

    Pete
Have the Yankees officially named a coaching staff? I’ve heard all the names mentioned but has anyone actually been signed?

  12. mary ellen November 6th, 2007 at 7:33 am

Pete, great work at the GM meetings – any way you can get some info on Rivera and/or Posada? I think I can speak for most fans, we’re on pins and needles, especially after hearing Andy will delay his decision to come back in 2008.

  13. DMan November 6th, 2007 at 8:47 am

Andy will be back. I do think hes waiting to see how the team shapes up, but I think he knows the Yankees will do their best to field a winning team.

  14. Rebecca--Optimist Prime November 6th, 2007 at 8:50 am

Delwyn Young? Any relation to Delmon Young?

  15. jennifer- congrats JOE G November 6th, 2007 at 8:53 am

Has anyone listened to this too buffoons on wfan in the morning. They are awful!! All they do is yell and scream. Now the one idiot Chris is taking credit for the Mets sitting down and talking to Borass. And the other one Boomer (former Jet) is saying who was talking about the Yankees getting Cabrera, taking credit for the Yankees possibly looking into trading for him. They are so bad, but the idiots up the dial are worse!

Also I better not read that Alex signs with the Mets for 200 million. If he signs elsewhere it better be for the extortion that he was looking for from the Yankees. ANd I could just imagine his press conference. I LOVE THE METS, I was a fan as a little child. They are the best team in baseball with the best chance to win it all. I will take them to the promise land. blah blah blah.

  16. Boston Dave November 6th, 2007 at 8:53 am

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, “the Mets will probably be in the middle of the” bidding war for Alex Rodriguez.

  17. jennifer- congrats JOE G November 6th, 2007 at 8:55 am

The reason Cash was so excited is because Andy did this so he can help the team protect a player for the rule V draft. They already have a deal drawn up and after the draft is over Andy will re-sign with the Yankees.

  18. Bryan November 6th, 2007 at 9:13 am

Pettitte might also want a two year since his elbow “felt great” last year.. remember his is baseball with gauranteed contracts and in no other line of work will Pettitte earn $16 mil a year so as long as he is pain free and effective I think he will keep pitching

  19. Who's at 3B? November 6th, 2007 at 9:24 am

How would any of you feel about the Yanks acquiring an M.L.B. ready, righthanded hitting rookie 3B via trade? Who’s out there? I think he’d be instantly embraced cuz he’s not A-Rod and he’s a freshfaced kid making the rookie minimum and trying to make it in M.L.B./ with the Yanks. Who wouldn’t root for him? I would. If the 2008 Yanks made the postseason and got knocked out in the A.L.D.S. again but this kid went .300 (6 for 15) with a homerun, a double, a walk, 4 RBI, and 2 strikeouts in 4 games, people would say “At least he showed up unlike A-Rod.”

If the Yanks could get Joe Crede for 3B, cool, let’s see what he could do. Hopefully he posts something like his 2006 or a 2002 Robin Ventura type season, but I’d rather see what a promising rookie could do.

  20. randy l. November 6th, 2007 at 9:25 am

    nettles, randolph,guidry, mattingly
why is it that the last four yankee captains , before jeter, do not work in the organization? what’s happened to this organization that it expels it’s leaders?
why are the most” yankee” of them all-posada, rivera, and pettitte choosing to keep their options open?
and why is cashman smiling? is the man in denial? probably not. i guess maybe he knows he would land another gm job as quickly as torre did, so why should he worry. baseball is bigger than the yankees. the exodus from them to other teams in baseball is starting to look like a trend where players, managers and coaches see more opportunity elsewhere.
    why is that?

  21. Who's at 3B? November 6th, 2007 at 9:31 am

Oh yeah, say the Yanks get a righthanded hitting rookie 3B, they could bat him ninth.

    Damon/Jeter/Abreu/Posada/Matsui/Cano/Cabrera/Giambi/Rookie
    LF* SS RF C DH* 2B CF* 1B 3B
    L R L S L L S L R

*Damon and Matsui are the dual LF/DH with Giambi and Duncan getting ABs at DH, too. Phillips and/ or Duncan get time at 1B when Giambi DHs. Cabrera breaks up the lefties.

    If Crede was acquired:

    Damomn/Jeter/Abreu/Posada/Matsui/Crede/Cano/Giambi/Cabrera

    Crede breaks up the lefties.

  22. TurnTwo November 6th, 2007 at 9:33 am

its because the organization cant live on names, but has to decide who is best capable to help achieve the goals of the organization going forward.

that, and of course, its the individual player’s choice as well. Girardi and Cash both made public the fact that they wanted to retain Mattingly as the bench coach, and he was the one to turn down the organization.

  23. TurnTwo November 6th, 2007 at 9:36 am

there are several mlb-ready youngsters around the league, including Andy Laroche in LA, Chase Headley in SD, Ian Stewart in Colorado… anyone think of any others?

  24. jennifer- congrats JOE G November 6th, 2007 at 9:40 am

IF the mets get ALex, maybe we should trade for David Wright. I can’t see him being happy moving to first.

  25. TurnTwo November 6th, 2007 at 9:44 am

DWright is not going ANYWHERE… and the Mets and Yankees dont do deals.

  26. Who's at 3B? November 6th, 2007 at 9:44 am

    randy I.

The Yanks didn’t “expel” Nettles, Randolph, Mattingly, or Guidry.

Randolph wanted to be a manager but there was no chance for him to be the Yankees’ manager with Torre still the Yankees’ manager. The Mets had an opening for manager, interviewed him, and offered him the job, and he took the job. The Yanks didn’t fire him or let him go cuz they didn’t want him back. They wanted him back.

Mattingly said himself he was neither guaranteed the Yankees manager job after Torre nor expecting to be the next Yankees manager after Torre. He also didn’t want to be Girardi’s bench coach cuz he’d feel like he would be looking over Girardi’s shoulder.

Guidry was neither fired nor let go, he stepped down.

Since when did the Yanks owe these four guys anything? Since never.

As for Posada, Rivera, and Pettitte, they have the power to keep their options open. The Yanks have to make the former two offers mutually acceptable to the players and team. B.t.w. numbnuts who obviously is coming on here bashing the Yankees, Pettitte declined his player’s option because he is unsure he wants to play baseball again. He has publicly stated it’s the Yankees or retirement, Cashman, the Steibrenners, and legions of Yankee fans (including myself) hold him to his word cuz he is an honorable man who called Cashman personally to tell him he’s declined the option.

    Buzz off troll

  27. Who's at 3B? November 6th, 2007 at 9:51 am

    Turn two

Funny you mention Ian Stuart. Joel Sherman mentioned him in his article in today’s N.Y. Post. Sherman said the plan is to let go of Matsui and put Stuart at 2B since there’s no room at 3B with Atkins there, the Rockies don’t want to deal Atkins to anyone. If Stuart doesn’t work out there, they’ll just give him more time to develop in the minors.

I think Chase Headley is a lefthanded hitter cuz I did an image search for him and every picture had him batting lefthanded. Is he a switch-hitter? I’d rather have righthanded hitting Kevin Kouzmanoff for 3B but he just came off his first full season and had a nice one for a rookie.

How is Adam LaRoche? Could he be acquired? I don’t see him being dealt to the Yanks if he’s L.A.’s 3B cuz how they trading him to the Yanks after hiring Torre? lol

  28. TurnTwo November 6th, 2007 at 9:59 am

The one aspect about LaRoche I’ve heard is that with Torre coming in, and both him and Ned Coletti preferring vets in the clubhouse, they may make a move to either sign ARod, or go with a more veteran 3B, which could make LaRoche available via trade.

    who’s at 3b?-
    nice attitude.
so where’s the line of coaches and players dying to be part of the new yankee organization?
when you post a consistent username maybe i’ll take you seriously.

  31. pounder November 6th, 2007 at 11:41 am

Deliciously ironic,or should I say diabolically ironic, that Mattingly is sitting on the right hand of God out in LA,being kept on ice in the event that Girardi fails in NY.Could all the machinations we have seen from Yankeeland be all one huge secret plan????
THE PLOT WILL THICKEN IF MATTINGLY RETURNS TO THE BRONX.
    OR………JOE TORRE!
