Staying with the Yanks and catching Joba, Ian, Wang, & Phil sounds a lot more promising then being a met and catching for WHO?

too much...Mike Cameron cannot hold Abreu's jock offensively...not even close...but we shouldve given him 2 years and 14MM (your numbers that I think are low) instead of our existing #3 hitter for 1 years and 16?

abreu has driven in a 100 7 times in his career, Cameron has done it once.

listen, obviously youre a Sox fan who, if he had signed with the Mets for 5 years you'd be ripping us for that...but at least try and make sense in your posts.

Cashman also screwed up with Abreu, who publicly said he loves N.Y., wanted to stay in N.Y. O.k. then we're buying you out for $2M and offering you a one-year $10M contract so you make $12M total for 2008 cuz you're not worth your $16M club option which the Phillies, not the Yanks, gave you. Take it or we simply move Melky to RF and sign Torii Hunter, Aaron Rowand,
Andruw Jones, or Mike Cameron for CF (I'd go with Cameron since he made only $7M this year and he'd most likely take another year and $7M to play in N.Y. again and considering he'll miss April with his suspension).

What an awful signing!!! Great, let's give a 36-year old catcher who isn't that great defensively top dollar for 4 years through age 40. Let's determine who our 1B is in 2010 and/ or 2011 as he isn't catching in one or both of those years right? Let's determine who our DH is in 2010 and/ or 2011. Let's sign an old catcher to be one for 2 years then an overpriced bad 1B and 20-25 HR DH. Since when was 1B an easy position and since when has a player, catcher or otherwise, began his 1B career at 38 or 39 years old (assuming Posada is the catcher 2008-09 then moves to 1B for 2010)?

Posada wanted to remain in N.Y./ go nowhere else and 4 years. No way the Mets were signing him for 4 years with no DH to move him to in 2010 and/ or 2011 and the uncertainty that he could be the 2010 and/ or 2011 1B. All he had was the Yanks. The Yanks had the leverage over him, not vice versa. I'd have offered him 2 years @ $15M = $30M with a vested $15M option for a third year based on games caught in 2008 and/ or 2009 upping the total value of the contract to $45M. I'd also throw in bonuses for the Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, A.L.M.V.P., and World Series M.V.P. to send the total value of the contract to $50M. For 3 years.

Once again Cashman negotiates against himself and shows he is merely a glorified checkwriter. He overpaid Damon, Matsui (his extension), and now Posada in years and money. It better pay off for him next year or he's gone after it. He's already manufactured $46M bust Kei Igawa which was HIS baby not George's and not getting A-Rod to drop his opt-out clauses during the A-Rod trade. 'Better get past the A.L.D.S. next year or happy job hunting and we'll see what you do with a sub-$100M/ low-$100M payroll.

In a few weeks Borass will tell the world ARod has signed with the Redsox. This deal was made weeks ago. They did it with Nancy Drew so until they get caught, they will do it again. That how the Sux roll.

Unless it changed in the last CBA, achievement based incentives are illegal. All incentives are playing time based.

Big V,
Are you honestly opposed to paying Jorge Posada? it's frickin' Jorge Posada! I could care less if he collects $14 million in the last year of his contract sitting on the bench playing Don Zimmer. Whatever. He's earned it. One of the greatest catchers in Yankees history. Greater than Munson.

"The idea that the Yankees would offer Alex incentives based on home run plateaus is beyond ridiculous. Why is the world would you want a player trying to hit home runs?"

Uh...home runs good, right ?

"Look at Jorge’s stats before this year, very pedestrian. "

Wait a second...one of the best hitting catchers in baseball every single season of his entire career=very pedestrian? Jorge had one year that wasn't very good, 2005, and even that season he was still well above average offensively for a catcher.

Jorge!!!
