Journal News staff artist Chris Brown is a baseball fan and volunteered to do some artwork for the blog from time to time.

Here’s his latest effort and it’s pretty slick. Thanks, Chris.

(And I guess we’ll see how untouchable Robbie is if Johan Santana goes on the market).

nice cartoon but why does joba look asian?

  2. Tseng

Haha, pretty funny. I really do hope we don’t trade Robbie.

  3. Emobacca

I agree with the premise of the cartoon, those two are franchise talents.

  4. mel

I love it! Way better than Donnie’s Hitman poster.

  5. km

    Joba looks Indian

  6. Joe from Long Island

    Great cartoon!

I know some on this blog have called for Cano to be included in any trade for Santana – I just can’t. I think Robbie has a tremendous upside and future, and it’s not like the Yankees can’t win without Santana. He’s not the Second Coming, for Pete’s sake (no pun intended).

  7. NJ

    Haha thats sweet.

  8. Frank marco

how ironic….I JUST got done watching that movie. awesome flick..

    and awesome cartoon.

  9. Michael A Rook

If cano stays I dont think santana is comming

  10. Ant928

Nice!!! It’s important to have kids coming up so you’re not stuck with a Mo/Po/Rocket situation.

Oh and Joba looks Asian/Indian because he is American Indian.

Look at the history books sometime before commenting. Hello?!?! One of his entrance songs is “Indian Outlaw”!!!

  11. Rebecca--Optimist Prime

Okay, it took me WAY too long to get the water gun.

But now I do, and all is well.

Didn’t read through the hundreds of posts so don’t know if this is new but…..

    from Yankees.com
Catch this: The New York Daily News reported on Friday that the Yankees had reached an agreement with backup catcher Jose Molina on a two-year, $4 million contract.

Reached by telephone at his home in Puerto Rico, Molina said that he had no knowledge of a completed deal but was pleased to hear of reported progress.

“No doubt about that, I still want to go back,” Molina said. “It’s just a matter of what we’re going to do and what their plans are. A lot of times, it doesn’t depend on the players — it depends on what they’re willing to do and say. It’s what the teams need.”

  13. Titan

    Great cartoon…And very true also..
I don’t think it would be cleaver to go after Santana, the best option is to wait for hin in the FA and make a strong offer. Unless, the Red Sox try to make a move, then we have to start looking at it.

  14. B.stanley

Awesome cartoon. I hope Robbie really is an Untouchable…

  15. Dr. Acula

Why would the Twins trade for Cano?

2008 will be his 4th year in the league.

Say the Twins trade Santana at the end of July, that means the Twins would only control Robbie for two years and two months, and then they lose him to FA.

Nah, the Twins will look for a bigger upside (rookies, top line prospects) when they trade Johan.

It’ll be modeled after the Teixeira trade.

  16. Jim Clark

Who is more untouchable: Joba the Hutt or Phil Franchise? Nice to have these debates. I can’t remember any real high ceiling pitching prospects..Brien Taylor didn’t get to the majors to really count.

  17. TurnTwo

as much as i love Robby, you can find second baseman.

if you can move Cano in a package for Santana, think about the rotation you have, for the next 5 years…

    Johan, Wang, Joba, and Hughes.

and even if you have to include IPK in the deal, that rotation doesnt even include Brackman, Betances, Horne, or McCutchen, all of whom could develop into top of the rotation studs.

  18. Mike R.

    Hey Pete

Do you think he could make that into a poster and sell me one? Ask him and e-mail me if possible please.

  19. hmmm

“Look at the history books sometime before commenting. Hello?!?! One of his entrance songs is “Indian Outlaw”!!!”

yeah, i’m pretty sure everyone here knows that.

  20. VOIII

    Turn Two,
Think of the rotation we can have in 09 when Johan is a F/A
    Johan
    Joba
    Hughes
    Wang
    Kennedy
    Then we still have Cano…
I would still try hard for Miguel Cabrera. He is a once in a lifetime talent and his numbers are better than A-Rods at the age of 24…After next year there are good F/A pitchers available, and the Yankees are insanely deep with pitching prospects….

  21. VOIII

I see Kenny Rogers has fired Scott Borass…Not a good week for Scotty B…

  22. #13 - make it 55 next year AROD

That cartoon is wonderful!!! Thanks, Chris.

  23. #13 - make it 55 next year AROD

    Honestly? Rogers fired Boras?

  24. jay destro

pretty cool… i just watched the untouchables the other day

  25. VOIII

    13,
Yes he did, I saw it on MLBTRADERUMORS.COM and ESPN

  26. TurnTwo

He’ll never make it to free agency. To say that the Twins would make a mistake like that would be of monumental proportions.

He’ll either get his extention, or he’ll be traded. As I mentioned in the other thread, the Twins will never make the same mistake that the Nationals made with Soriano. And whoever trades the talent that it’ll take to obtain Johan will most assuredly extend him. Better to have BC force the hand of the Twins now, and have him at the front of the rotation for an entire season than battle for him at midseason.

  27. #13 - make it 55 next year AROD

VOIII, thanks!!! I wonder if this will start a trend?
    :)

  28. TurnTwo

But, I do agree… if the Twins have made it clear that Johan is not available at any price, I would make a move for Miguel Cabrera. With ARod now all but locked up, you make the move for MC, and have them locked up at 3 and 4 in the lineup for the next decade.

  29. TurnTwo

But, if they move for MC, then you need the place to put him. So with ARod coming back, that would have to be at 1B, and if you sign Mike Lowell, then you can also obtain MC.

IF it were up to me, I’d take MC over ML, simply because MC is just starting his career, while ML has shown what he can do, and will be on his way back down.

MC is one offensive player that you give up pitching for, simply because he is young enough that you can give up pitching, and make a commitment to him long term.

  30. TurnTwo

    you cant** also obtain MC

  31. Irabu's Son

I wish Melky was untouchable too.. but for selfish reasons. He’s my favorite player. He plays with a spark I haven’t seen in 20+ years of being a Yankee fan.

    But I know better.

  32. TurnTwo

you dont have to worry. nobody wants melky, so he’ll be the 4th OF here for years to come.

  33. Irabu's Son

    *yaY*

  34. Don V.

Hughes needed to be in there, but nice job overall. Remember there were 3 protagonists in the movie – Costner, Connery, and Andy Garcia.

Oh and Hughes should be UNTOUCHABLE.

  35. Barry's Head

This ones cool. Nice touch with the super soaker.

  36. Josh

Love the poster, looking forward to more cartoons.

  37. Thomas

Mostly everything is rehashed and stale material but that cartoon is GOOD, real talent.

  38. The_Kiid

    Ant928

um asian doesnt equal native american genius…

  39. Rob

    Great concept!!

  40. Shamus

I would say Joba is moreuntouchable than Phil… I don’t know why, but I get that feeling.

Maybe its because Chamberlain has 100 mph stuff, and they think he is the ace of the future?

Any thoughts? I see Hughes as expendable versus Joba if its for Johan…

Hughes, IPK, Karstens and Melky for JS? Is it enough? Sub any one of Humberto Sanchez/ Allan Horne/ etc for Karstens?

Just dont trade Cano or Joba. Please…

  41. Yomas

    The_Kiid

Should pay more attention to history. There is quite a bit of evidence that suggests that many American Indians are decendants from Asians who crossed the Siberian-Alaskan land bridge some 11,500 years ago and migrated south.

Thats true. Some settled in Canada (eskimos), some in the continental U.S.A. (American Indians), and some settled in the Polynisian Islands (Hawiians, Guamanians, Samoans etc.).

All were said to be originally from the Orient, crossing the water during the Ice Age.

  43. GreenBeret7

Some how, trading two top end, young pitchers, another pitcher and a center fielder for one pitcher, with some milage on his arm and 6-7 years older than the 3 you’re moving seems rather pointless.

Who’s going to plug that hole in the rotation? Pettitte may not return, and Mussina would need to ray healthy. You’d then be down to three starters and in just as big a mess as last year was, except, now you also have a hole in center field. Why not wait the year out, because, there’s no reason for Santana to sign an extention with a team he might not want to be with. Not worth the cost in young talent plus salary of Santana and free agent center fielder plus the loss of a top draft pick.

  44. youngtimer

This guy’s great. Love the “insecticide.”

  45. Torpor

Not to nitpick but if there was no caption telling who the guy on the left was, I would have thought it was Melky. It looks more like Melky than Cano. I think maybe he made a mistake; it looks like Melky.

  46. Torpor

Sorry, that should say the guy on the right.

  47. Bob

The Man has style, the only people pushing for Cano to be traded are the Met and Red Sox fans.

  48. JBRO

That looks alto more like cano then melky, and it does say who is who…
