"You need a loan to get a tank of gas, some kid shoots up a school every few months and there seems to be no honorable way out of Iraq."

Like most hournalists, you should refrain from commenting on military affairs; whileit's your perogative, it's definitely not your forte.

The Twins have reportedly offered Johan Santana a five-year deal worth $93 million.

Can you say..... no thanks?

He will be traded. Its just a question of whether he hits free agency or his 2008 team signs him long-term.

Travis,
The bleachers are definitely alcohol free. Though when I went there one time this year with my teenage daughter (a night game), there was a strong odor of weed in the stands. Also the die-hard bleacher fans can be quite crass and act like a cult. On a couple of times in the bleachers, there was a lot of swearing, etc. Maybe not the best for young kids.

pat,

I think he wants to win the championship, but once he accomplishes that, all bets are off. Championships enhance your place in the HOF. Just because you hold the homerun record, doesn't mean you're guaranteed a spot in the Hall! ;)

I'll be interested to see how he deals with an impending #600, #500 was brutal for him (and us!). Although 500 is a pretty big deal.

""New York goes after everything. Phone bills, credit cards bills, E-ZPass, you name it, they go after it," said one such expert quoted in the New York Post. State officials will apparently comb through every detail of Jeter's life to determine where exactly he's been spending his time."

Knowing how Jeter likes to keep all his business out of the media spotlight, he may prefer to write a check rather than have 3 years of his life disected.

Mel,

Getting the ring. Pat's right. Especially if that comes within the next couple of seasons. Because then the rest (records) are icing on the cake!

mel
If you asked him that question today, I'd say win a championship. That could be accomplished in 1 year and the probably 7 or 8. Living in NY with a 10 year contract would be so much easier with a ring on his finger.
