A little blog housekeeping
The paper moved this blog to a dedicated server several weeks ago and everything seems to have gone well since.
However, there were a few glitches on the old server on Sunday night and I’m told it slowed down this blog somehow. Apparently when they switched servers, I got a new URL and people are automatically redirected from the old one. I guess that process can get slowed.
(I have no idea how any of this works, I’m passing on what they told me)
To fix that, change your bookmark. Use http://yankees.lhblogs.com and that should eliminate any issues.
Thanks.

Pete I wae wondering what happened thanks.
Meant was instead of wae,it’s late.
I love that the majority of this blog’s readers wanted A-Rod back. Smart fans.

Hear, hear. And thank goodness the Supreme Court didn’t intervene and overrule the majority.
you don ‘t have to switch bookmarks…the site forwards you automatically. it’s been doing it
for weeks now.
Hey Pete, take a vacation!!!
Loved that “I’m not fooled by your lame attempt to create content during your vacation.” part on the poll. :0)
You know, I love your blog. I read it every day, and recheck it several times a day. It’s the very first thing I read when I wake up. I learned this year, you will have the news first!
So I wanted to say THANKS for doing such a great job. THANKS for keeping up, even though you are on vacation.
It’s kind of funny. I keep checking for updates daily, and when I see a new entry, I say “Geez, why doesn’t the guy just enjoy his vacation and forget this stuff?”. Then 3 hours later I am cehcking again saying “C’mon Pete, I know your on vacation, but I need to hear the latest thing!” I’m such a selfish ass.
I also really love that you throw stuff in about your life, and Springsteen (Im a fan too), and even the Patriots. Close one tonite! And lastly, the fact that you actually took the time once to actually send me an email reply, not just a CC to a post here, but a private email. I got the feeling from that email that I was not special, that you do that for everyone. Which makes you special.
Anyway, thanks again- seriously.

mike f: Pete’s asking you to switch bookmarks so that we don’t create traffic on the old site.
Sweet – new link much faster – thanks Pete.
So that explains why I got a blank page a number of times.
from MLBTradeRumors:
i wouldn’t do that either. Hughes and Ajax? Umm… no.
Just don’t let Santana go to the Red Sux…Beckett, Santana, Dice-K, Lester, Wakefield, Schilling…would you let Santana slip to the Red Sux??? It would be awfully hard to compete in the AL East if Boston puts that rotation on the field…the Yankees could still handle them…but it is the Rays and the Orioles and others I am worried about…
Wake is a year older and injury prone, same as “the mouth”. I wouldn’t be totally worried if they landed him. They would likely have to give up Lester or Bucholtez in the deal.
Santana has a no-trade clause meaning he can stop any deal he doesnt like whether it be because of the deal he will get or where he would be going. I heard that Santana has said he wants to pitch in New York.
I am wondering if that because:
A) The Twins are running out of time to capitalize on trading Santana (aka if they wait til July many teams might drop out)
B) Santana (supposedly) wants to go to the Yankees
C) The Yankees can offer him big money
Can the Yankees get away with offering the Twins less because the Twins may know that Santana will only OK a deal to New York? Basically, if Santana knows the Yanks can offer him the money and the bigest stage, do you think the Twins are aware that it might be New York or bust?
Yeah. I guess it is more or less just having Beckett, Santana, and Dice-K (who I think is going to be even better next year, but could be wrong…) as your top three. If you do trade Lester or Bucholz…you still have one of them to round it out with and still left with either Schilling or Wakefield taking the four spot. Don’t get me wrong. The Yanks could handle the Sox still, but I don’t think to many other teams in this league could do much against a rotation like that.
I think it was said Santana liked pitching in NY because he likes the big stage atmosphere. Think everyone ran with it from there. Lotta places have same draw including Sux. But maybe he is partial to NY I don’t know. Don’t think Twins care they just wan’t most they can get for him. If they can’t get what they want now then they will stand pat until next year IMO.
Catherine-
No. I do not think that worries the Twins. If the other major players in the “Race for Santana” offer more money to Santana and the right mix of players to the Twins, do you think Santana would turn it down?
So far the Twins have only offered him $80 million…word on the street is that the Yankees will make an offer of somewhere around $150 million. Would you stick around in Minnesota if the Yankees offered you that, and then the Red Sux offered you $180-190 million to pitch in Fenway??? Santana just wants a bigger stage and a fatter paycheck. It going to come down to whose prospect package satisfies the Twins and whose pocketbook satisfies Santana….
Yeah but if they wait til next yr Santana will be a free agent and sign somewhere else and the Twins will get nothing.
They NEED to trade him if they want anything.
Santana might like NY, but there are two teams in NY.
that said, he’s not going to block a trade to any of the contenders just to pitch for the yankees. he’d go to Anaheim, LA, Boston, etc.
They can trade him B4 deadline when teams get really deperate.
Catherine-
If the Twins don’t trade him, they would get 2 draft choices for him, the A’s did the same with Zito after he left for FA. So they don’t HAVE to trade him, but they will probably want excellent players in return & will save his $13.5 M Salary for 2008 if they do.
On Santana – couple points, if dealt this winter, teams will have to deal with his full No-Trade and meet the Twins’ asking price and probably pay out $150 mil for him to waive it (or pay on top of the $150).
If dealt over the summer, fewer teams will be in play as only teams in contention will be in the mix (altho most of them would probably be the same teams in play now), but they would more than likely be dealing with a rental versus a trade with extension, meaning the Twins more than likely would get less value in return, but Santana will only have a partial no-trade in 08 (as he did not finish in the top 3 for Cy Young voting in 07) and being only 6 mos from free agency, would more than likely not sign an extension unless it’s a huge ($25 mil per) deal.
Given his price and cost, which is better – Santana or Bedard (who is still 2 yrs from FA)?
