Mitchell's Eleven,

you are right, George had several flirtations with Williams and if you believe "the bronx zoo" he threatened Billy Martin with him.

I can't say I am surprised the Kuhn got in. He was an owners man and they reward their own. O'Malley is long overdue as is Marvin Miller who will never get in. He is hated by the owners for making the players union the most effective of all sports unions.
I'm sorry but Billy Martin is not hall worthy. I say this as a Yankee fan of almost 40 years now (we start young in my family).
He was an amazing manager but I think that his career had too many fits and starts. He never gave himself a chance to be as consistently great as Casey although I thought at one time he could be. His self destructive nature just couldn't handle success. Quite a shame IMO.

i think having pettitte back does change the dynamic making the yankees feel more comfortable as they stand now. combining this with the santana deal starting to feel more than a little painful, it wouldn't surprise me to see the yankees back off from the deal.

by opening the door to a trade, your gm has given hank a chance to tell santana, without being in trouble for tampering, that the money will be there next fall if he waits. bill smith may have overplayed his hand.

on another note, i totally like the way the twins build an organization. the twins way where every player can bunt, put the ball in play when needed, and play situational baseball should be a model for all teams. mientkiewitz was the yankees best bunter and even the red sox' ortiz can lay down a bunt to go against the shift. players are taught this throughout the organization. the whole system is on the same page. and they keep their coaches for a long time for continuity of teaching. i especially like what the cliburn brothers have done at the aa and aaa level as manager and pitching coach.

Haren vs. Santana

Haren Age - 26 Santana Age - 28
Haren Career Record - 49-44 Santana Career Record - 93-44
Haren Career Whip - 1.243 Santana Career Whip - 1.094
Haren Career ERA+ - 113 Santana Career ERA+ - 141
Haren Career K's - 606 Santana Career K's - 1,381

Need I go on? Isn't it obvious that these two guys are not on the same level? Isn't it also obvious that Haren is not the ACE pitcher everyone has been clamoring for on this blog? Truth is Haren is no better a pitcher than our very own Chien Ming Wang who mostly everyone here wants to get rid of for Johan Santana.

I just can't understand the fascination with that Haren guy. I really can't. Wang who is a product of the Yankees farm system gets tore up in here because of two bad games and yet a majority of posters here want the Yankees to throw good prospects at Billy Beane for Haren. I really can't understand it.

Walter O'Malley was not single-handedly responsible for baseball on the west coast. Horace Stoneham took the New York Giants to 'Frisco in that very same year.
There is a travesty however in why a pitcher cannot be in the HOF after winning 285 games with nearly 2 years taken away recovering from a then unheard of surgery now named after him and since extending the careers of many pitchers, some of who are now in the Yankees farm system. Tommy John still hasn't had his due.

It's best you don't really remember. Those weren't pretty times.

Dick Williams in the HOF doesn't that make Jack Mckeon a HOF'er. Bowie Kuhn in the Hof is just nonsense and Mattingly's not in. Mattingly did more for baseball than Kuhn in Septbmer of 05 by getting Bubba Crosby to hit 300.

G.love

b. package is too much. Tabata and Jackson would be extreme.Horne is suppose to be the real deal, let along Kennedy.

Yes it would save us from dealing Hughes and Melky + money, but honestly I would deal Melky before I deal Tabata or Jackson. They have a higher ceiling.

With that I choose A. If we have to make a trade.

G. Love - Trade A. Trade A. Trade A. Not even close in my mind. Santana is much better than Haren. Also, I am counting on Horne and AJax to be big parts on the team in a few years. Tabata, posssibly. Also, I am very high on Kennedy.

Cake and eat it too ? It has no direct affect if somebody was pushed off a wall or fell on their own free will.
Now, as for Andy Pettitte, it's an uplifting thing for him to return.
