Interesting – they only play the Sox once…

  2. A-Point

Man, Pete, you are the man with fast fingers!

  3. YANKEE BIAS

I doubt Pete typed that whole list A-Point, but I’m eternally grateful for the info.

    Thanks Pete!

    Donneybrook on St. Pattys

Ill be down there the 10th thru the 13th, maybe I’ll find you this time, Pete!

  6. Little Chip

    Thanks Pete

  7. A-Point

My point is more to all the updates and fresh new posts he keeps putting up. This site is one of the best thanks to all Pete’s work here.

  8. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes!

how are they going to play in Virginia in March. Wan’t it be too cold? And are they planing on the entire team going?

  9. Fernando

  12. Rebecca--Optimist Prime

Hey, d’ya guys know, the Pats are down?

  13. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes!

Rebecca you got my hopes up. :( They aren’t that far down.

  14. Rebecca--Optimist Prime

    Down is still down.

A 21-3 win is the same as a 7-6 win in the standings….

  15. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes!

I know, but there is still too much time left to get my hopes up.

  16. Rebecca--Optimist Prime

    Tony Kornheiser sounds absolutley bewildered

  17. bob

    From the previou post:
hey Pete, did Brian mention the release date of his memoir? I think the publisher should already have settled on a date by now. How about Torre’s?

  18. ThatWasMe

    Go Ravens

  19. rodg12

RS and Rox are discussing Brian Fuentes….possibly for Jed Lowrie (per ESPN).

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3132311&name=winter_meetings

That would definitely change the dynamics of the Santana situation if Lowrie is moved in another deal.

  20. Mister Delaware

So Lowrie being viewed as a 2B?

  21. rodg12

I think the book on Lowrie is that he can play SS but he would make a better 2B.

  22. Adam

    Per ESPN:

    • The agent for Johan Santana was on the same flight from New York as Yankees GM Brian Cashman and Mets GM Omar Minaya. All that was missing were Twins GM Bill Smith and Red Sox GM Theo Epstein, and a deal might have been hammered out.

  23. pat

    Cash flys commercial?

  24. Rebecca--Optimist Prime

    Adam: LOL

    It is really pretty outside.

    Except for the 10F weather.

  25. WTF?

rumor has it since the Yanks put a deadline on the trade that the twins and sox are approaching a johan agreement.

Johan/prospect to the sox for Lester/Bucholtz/lowrie/prospect

looks like we got a big mess on our hands now

  26. fleas

Okay, can we get something to drool over now please. I already that the tentative schedule and not much changed except the Va. Tech. game (which btw, is pretty cool).

MY mouth has been dry for days.. and everyone has been quiet on the Santana front.

  27. Rebecca--Optimist Prime

    wtf? Can you link us?

    Thanks!

That can’t be. Johan Santana is going to Japan in exchange for Hiro Nakamura.

Rebecca – I am fairly certain that it is not a real headline.

  31. jonnycat

any idea what kind of dough the cashman makes, by the way?

  32. Mike R

While refusing to discuss Santana specifically, Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said at the baseball winter meetings that there was no expiration date on any trade talks. In the past, he has set a deadline for potential deals if they were holding up other deals.

“I think we’ve only done that when we thought it was in our best interest,” Epstein said in his suite at the Opryland Hotel. “We don’t have current discussions ongoing for which I think that would be in our best interest. We’re pretty content with where we are and we don’t think anything major is getting held up.”

When you see Shania Twain, or what the heck, Faith Hill, tell them that Derek Jeter has sent me to represent him for just one glorious night!

I have it on good authority that he makes pumpernickle raisin dough. Once in a great while he switches up to sourdough.

  37. Vinny

No surprise that Peter Greenberg was on the same flight as Cashman. Greenberg is a Manhattan based agent. Only a fly on the plane knows what might have been said in conversation that no media or fan will ever be privvy to.

  38. hughesian bias

about 5.5 million, i think? this is outdated, but…

Jay – I copied the information from Cot’s.

    Mike R & Hughesian

    -thanks

TheCashman works very hard, but that *is* a lot of money…

  43. A-Point

The only reason they are not setting a deadline is because they really don’t care if they land Santana, its all about driving up the offerings of the Yankees.

That’s class? No, its just bidness.

  44. hughesian bias

    jay and mike

whoops! i wouldnt have posted the link if i knew mike r. had already copied the info.

    sorry.

Late deal …… the Astros picked up Chuck Steak on waivers…

  47. A-Point

Just think, with one HR A-Rod will make more than Cashman over all those years.

  48. Boston Dave

I would do Cashman’s job for free…. of course I might not be quite as good at it.

  50. hughesian bias

so let me get this straight:

if the yankees dont strike a deal by tonight, does that mean hughes is off the table?

what i took from hank’s comment is that the hughes + melky + prospect package is the best one we’re gonna offer, and that’s what the deadline is for. after tonight, hughes is off the table and if the twins still want to trade santana to us, it’ll come at a much lesser price.

is that right? or just wishful thinking from a hughes fan?

it would make sense, though… the yankees back out, fake a play at another pitcher (haren, et al) and then the red sox back out. after the twins realize they’re gonna get two compensation picks for santana, they come crawling back to the yankees for less than whats being offered now.

  51. Mike R.

jay – I thought as much. That’s why I didn’t even bother to reply.

  52. JT from NYC

Wow where is everyone.. its been a whopping 34 minutes without a post. I guess everyone got tired of all the speculation and went to sleep.

Re Spring Training single game tickets:

The past two years they have sold out in less than three hours. Season ticket holders grab up the best seats. However there really are no bad seats at Legends field.
Last year they said they were adding seats to the area behind the right field fence. I was there just a few weeks ago and saw no work going on. Any full time Tampa folks know anything about this?

  55. Meghan

hey i was wondering, does anyone know when spring training tickets go on sale????

  56. Ed from Eastern LI

In 2006, I went to a couple of Yankee spring training games at Legends Field. I was dissappointed to find that some of my favorite players, Jeter, etc., were playing in Japan. I plan to go down there for any 2 wks in March. Does anyone know if any of the players are going to be away from spring training?, (Japan, China) I’d like to avoid going when they are not going to be there if possible. Thanks in advance.
