RE: Farnsworth

I’m surprised that Pete buys into anything anyone in baseball management says. They will basically lie or mislead when it suits their interest. Since there are no ramifications in doing so, it doesn’t really matter either.

It looks clear that the organization has a well orchestrated game plan to pump up the value of Kyle Farnsworth to either 1. assuage his ego or 2. to sell him to anyone who buys into the baloney. I dont get why they dont push these managers a little harder with the questions.

I followed this all day and have one question, is there any legitimacy to ANY of the Johan to Boston rumors? It all seems like spin, from the medical records, to the “Twins dont like Melky” stance, the numerous positions about the unamed third players and the comments about the tampering.

To me it seems that the well publicized trade proposal with Lester and Crisp as the principals just does not pass the smell test. Lester is a nice pitcher, but its not like he’s a candidate to finish in the top ten in the Cy Young any time soon.

yankee21,

I respect what your saying. But I don't think the Twins' felt that the Yankees original offer was even close. I've been a Yankee fan for almost half a century and I'd have to agree with them. The Yankees obviously have a higher opinion of Melky than most teams do (and I love the kid). The Yanks were trying to get the best pitcher in baseball. They had to do a lot better than Melky.

Hank's take it or leave it stance was uneccessary, especially publicly. I've been around business negotiations. If you want to be successful, you don't embarrass the folks on the other side of the table.

To start the deal off with IPK rather than Hughes and then impose a deadline did not make for a comfortable negotiating atmosphere. I can appreciate Hank being exasperated with the tit for tat with the Red Sox and Twins. But stay private with it! He's too much bluster, just like his dad was.

Doreen,
That is blasphemy. Unless of course you don't celebrate, then all bets are off. But MASH is on everyday, regardless of the season.

Drive,,

If someone doesn't want to do a deal,, you can't make a deal. I wouldn't be surprised if Smith were under orders more or less from Pohlad that anything less than extracting top and quantity talent from NYY- he doesn't do the deal.

It is the Twins problem if they opt to do a second or third best deal because of some owners words,,ex. Hank, or some other non baseball reason,, it is surely not Hank or Cash' fault for not meeting unreasonable demands in order to get a deal at all costs. Not sure if your in business or an employee, but if I operated like that in negotiations I wouldn't last long.

The Twins are the ones who have to justify it internally and sell it to their fan base. It is the fans who have to buy it. Well good luck Twins fans, enjoy the mediocrity.

Ultimately it depends on trust- is there a trust that the Yankees decision-makers know what they're doing or is there an attitude of mockery or suspicion as if they're some amateurs that happened upon a grand stage only to quiver and fail.

IMHO, the Yankees are making sound moves.

Reality Check

Ditto from Mass. Listening to EEI today the hosts could not understand why we'd let the sox get santana at all. They were claiming that it would put the Yankees in a hole for the next 3-5 years unless at least 2 of the trio become full blown aces!

I hate it up here sometimes especially when it appears they get everything they want!!!!!

Good luck tomorrow Reality Check! Some of these folks have no idea how bad it is here....and I live 130 miles away in the Berkshires!

Unfortunately, tomorrow they have a right to gloat. If the Yanks had lost Austin Jackson it wasn't like they were "giving up the farm" like some believe. They still have Tabata and more. All I know is Austin Jackson had better be VERY good and VERY soon.

"Yankees keep the kids, Red Sox respond by trading 4 players and adding $150 mil. in payroll."

Who cares if the "kids" are really any good or not, as long as they're our "kids"!

Forget number one starters, we need KIDS!

Drive 4-5 --

I understand your concern with his use of "I" instead of "we." But I think you may be unduly concerned that he's not taking advice from the baseball people. Else, surely he would have included IPK with Hughes and just got the deal done without regard for the "master plan" of developing their own.
